The fact that umpires give the votes for the Brownlow is not the main reason the Brownlow is shit, though it is a reason.
The main reason is the voting system of 6 votes are given of 3, 2 and 1 for every game no matter how good or bad. Also, someone getting 3 votes is considered 3 times the player of someone getting 1 vote, who is considered infinitely better than the 4th best player.
Every player should get a score out of 10, like SEN use to. I dont expect the umpires to do that, but should be some judging panel

1/0 = undefined, not infinite. If you multiplied 0 an infinite number of times you'd still get 0

You know what is infinite. Dusty's dominance vs his peers in grand finals

Is a very good forward line still. Overall the additions of Doedee/Coleman/Levi/Coleman will be grander than the loss of Daniher. Onwards and upwards for them and the next 3 drafts will just see that continue

Who's the second Coleman on Brisbane's list currently?

If I were coaching an AFL team, every player would be forced to wear long sleeves in wet weather games. I'm not allowing blokes to needlessly drop simple chest marks just because their fragile version of masculinity makes you think you have to wear no sleeves at all times. Belichick did this with his receivers and running backs throughout his career. Surprised no one has done it in the AFL yet.

On a similar note I'd be enforcing gloves too. I know they claim not to enhance marking ability but I find it difficult to believe.

Clarko did the exact opposite at the Hawks from memory but I'm assuming that was due to little man syndrome

What's the advantage?

Don't forget, grippier arms are a bigger problem in the AFL, because you can't slip tackles.

Fabric means more grip = less fumbles/dropped marks

I get what you're saying. Maybe just key position players wear long sleeves as a compromise? I'll raise it at match committee.

No way, it's thick polyester, once it's wet it's like a kid's tarp slide. the old woollen jumpers definitely though.

I did see a really interesting fluff piece about jumper shape and fit, where an AFL club official was saying that they made their midfielder jumpers really close fitting, to make them harder to tackle, and their key position players a bit looser, particularly in the back, to make it obvious when the jumper was being held in a marking contest.

No shock that a guy called Brad Fisher backs long sleeves! Underrated player

That's actually genius. Scummy...but genius

Literally thought of this 1 minute ago but I think every time a club gets a wooden spoon they get a flag removed from their tally.

So say West Coast has two flags, but if they get a spoon then while those flags are not gone, they can no longer say "we have won two premierships" and are now only allowed to say they have won one premiership.

Also a club like St Kilda will need to win quite a few flags before they are allowed to say they even won one.

Starting 1990?
