- The AFLW is a waste of time and resources because it will never be a profitable operation.
Does something really need to make money to be worthwhile? That is a very sad world veiw.
Also even if the AFLW doesn't make a profit on its own it could very well increase the profits of the men's game by attracting more female followers who got into the sport through the AFLW.

I agree with you, but I think it's the people that don't like it being shoved in their faces that make the most racket. For example, a SuperCoach facebook page constantly updates it's page with women related stuff when it's not really the platform to do so as it should be for statistical posts that are SC related.

It's also a separate organisation to the AFL, yet all the AFL media pages report on it.

Their should be specific women related pages for AFLW content and people who wish to see it follow it.
But that is an issue for that site, not AFLW. Of all the things I see on the media, or the internet, that people have no interest on, why does it only seem to be "womens sport" being shoved down people's throats.

The AFL is far more unavoidable to someone with no interest in it, than AFLW is to someone with no interest. Where are, the AFL is being shoved down our throats, complaints?

My unpopular opinion is that the wing is now a role player position and you don't need superstar wingers to win Premierships.

Bradley Hill is a good player but Saints will be paying a massive price just for some run n carry.

In my opinion having good half back flankers are more important.
Is wing a specialised position anymore, or just an outside mid, no more or less useful than any other outside mid.

Um yes, yes it is.

Winmar took it in to his own hands and made a statement in the moment against the behaviour that really did put his safety at risk.

Harris was playing football, someone took a picture of her playing football and later on put it on the internet, some people were mean and vulgar, but most people were supportive and defended her.

Harris actually had nothing to do with it.

You have made the perfect argument for the statue. Winmar is on record saying when he lifted his jumper and pointed at his belly, he was saying "guts", not "black".

He was saying to the crowd, you cannot intimidate me, not, proud to be black.

But someone took a photo, and other people made their own narrative, and this made the image iconic, and then it was made into a statue.

Exactly like Tayla.

- Jack Riewoldt is the most overrated forward of the last decade.
- Hawthorn are irrelevant now and their club/posters are stuck in the past.
- The AFLW is a waste of time and resources because it will never be a profitable operation.
- Isaac Smith is a downhill skiier of the highest calibre.
- If there's a club who's been more perpetually disappointing than Essendon, it's Fremantle.
- Daisy Pearce is a horrible, boring commentator.

Thanks for listening.
Agree with all lol

The difference for me is that Winmar's statue took 20+ years before it was created, Tayla's took 20+ weeks.

I rolled my eyes when Tayla's statue was revealed not because of what it depicted or the statement it made, but because it was done in the same year the event took place. In my opinion statues are something that commemorate history, and Tayla's kick (and what it represents) is not yet of historical significance.

Cannot argue with that in principle.
In practice, statues are made when people decide to make them, there isn't a qualification period.
I would suggest Winmars gesture was a slow burn, where Taylas was immediately recognised. Winmars probably has the more long term significance, and it was the recognition of this image and its iconic nature that was explicitly and conspicuously linked into Taylas.

AFLW is working and will continue to grow and be extremely successful.

The short-term views that dollar revenue isn't being generated are misguided, in a sense that the aim of AFLW isn't to immediately make money, it's to broaden the game of Aussie Rules.
It's to create a world where men and women who play the game and are seen as 'equal' (not necessarily in talent, but in acceptance of playing the sport - think Tennis, Olympics, Golf etc.).

Not as rare as it could be, but I'd take Choco back in a heartbeat. Head Coach.

Non Victorian teams have a bigger home ground advantage during the season. 2 hours plane travel is an overrated 'issue'.
4 Hrs, each way.

4 Hrs, or your recovery time, spent sitting in an airplane seat. As someone that once had to fly on a Sunday morning after doing an ankle playing footy Saturday arvo, and got of the plane with a foot that had turned black, it counts.

Also, not a surprise that someone from Melbourne thinks, just 2 Hrs, do not see what the fuss is about.

Essendon has a shit culture. Year after year we're looking for the missing piece that will see us return to the glory days of 99-01. It's an entitled club that refuses to work hard for its success.

How is that unpopular?

The father son rule is garbage and takes integrity out of the game for nothing but tradition and some warm feelings of playing for your Dad's club.
I like it but too many players are getting in who only had average dad's. Players often get picked and nobody can remember their father cause he wasn't that good. We only want the legends kids getting in. Raise it to 250 games or add some criteria in terms of awards won. That way it narrows it down

Dunno if unpopular but Id like to see 16 on the field and 6 (or more) on the bench.

Or a different angle...

34 round season.

Play each other twice home and away.

Whole squad is on bench even Rookies.

Unlimited interchanges.

On game day: make game days a bigger event.

Every club has...

Reserves game

Womens game

Seniors game

34.rounds?
I'm completely against those who want to shorten the season, but I don't think increasing it by 50% is a good idea

That with free agency and player trade rules as they are we are heading for a situation not unlike the 80's where those with the biggest cheque books and brown paper bags will be winning the all the premierships.
