In most sports the semi finals come right before the grand final. Of course the AFL has to do things arse backwards
Confused the hell out of a mate of mine who hasn't followed the game long. He had no idea what I was on about when I said finals start next week. "How do finals start? Isn't that the last game? Did Geelong make that already?". Had to explain it's what he'd call playoffs. Then I had to try explain Qualifying, Semi, Prelim and the fact that if it comes down to it, the Cats would play all 4 remaining games in Melbourne.

Flea’s success with the pies this year shows how poorly Buckley had performed as a coach.

Nathan is apparently the media’s newest darling, but the pies were going nowhere with him and have now exploded with largely the same list, even without one of the best rucks in the game.
Wrong insect :)

I like the idea of the elimination finals the week following r23 rather than a bye, giving the top 4 a weeks rest. Then a week off before the grand final for both teams.
Depends how much of an advantage you judge the week off as being.

If clubs think it’s significant than no way should the winner of the EF have that leg up over the loser of the QF.

And then I guess the winners of the elimination finals get the next weekend off while they wait for the losers of the qualifying finals to emerge

I quite like the idea but if I understand correctly the winners of the elimination finals would then get the next weekend off while the Top 4 play the QFs? They then play the QF losers the following week?

If I want to tell someone their mother has more holes than a fly screen, I shouldn’t need to apologise for it.

Edit: on the field.

I do mean this as a compliment: Rhys Mathieson is the perfect medisub. You can see why the Lions love him.

People are probably making fun of how pumped he was after the game when he didn't even get on the ground, let alone get a kick, but those are the selfless types that you want on the fringes at a footy club.

I’m no Mathieson fan but that level of energy is exactly what you would hope for from your fringe players after a win like that. There would be some players that would be salty they weren’t a part of it, but the guy who is over the moon that the team won whether he contributed or not is the one you want.

If Eddie Betts is considered a competent media performer, then I'm an astronaut..!

While I understand Fox Footy's desire to have one of most popular players in recent times on TV, I actually feel for Betts as half the time he just looks like he doesn't even want to be there - and while intensive coaching and further experience can improve a presenters onscreen persona, there are some who simply don't have the personality traits, intellect or desire required for such roles.

The networks missed a huge trick not having Chris Johnson more involved. He's smooth as hell on camera, breaks up the all white hosting problem, looks good, triple premiership player.. what more could you want. He should be hosting all the pre game and halftime stuff.

There is something racist about the way the other hosts talk to Eddie like he's a small child while he looks so awkward its like there is someone just off camera with a gun pointed at his head "Thats good Eddie, keep smiling for the camera and no one gets hurt, that's real good"

No agrument re Chris Johnson, despite him not having the public profile and popularity that comparatively Mr. Betts has, which is the main reason Betts is on TV..!
I don't agree with your observation regarding the interaction with others, as Betts clearly need's producer and/or co-hosts encouragement and assistance with his media role. For mine it's similar to a tradesman providing an apprentice on the job training...

Fremantle’s 2019 Draft will go down as one of the best same draft hauls ever when it’s all said and done.
Off limited research so there could be others:

Hawks had
2001 hodge mitchel brown
2004 rough franklin Lewis young
(Priority pick)

Cats had
2001 Bartel Kelly Johnson and Ablett

Dockers
2019 serong young Henry Fredrick

A side note like hawks we had another good haul in 2016
Logue Darcy Cox Ryan

3 of the 4 have been AA squad or better.
2 of 4 have won a BnF

McRae is not the super coach everyone is fawning over. That many close wins comes down to 90 % luck I dont care what anyone says "They train for it, its not luck!!!" Like a kid going to the casino for the first time and winning a few grand on roullette, It's luck.

Next year they could easily be 2-9 and then judging by how poorly he handled the loss against Geelong he will completely crack up

I would say that I think his interesting comments about loser body language was a bit rich when he followed that with a fair old whinge about the umpires.

Would it have been hard to wait 6 hours before expressing that opinion? Brave call
