Anyone of White, Watson , Duigan etc as our backline is our achilles heel right now and if it gels and works as a cohesive unit our team could do anything.

It only takes 1 player to step up to the plate and lift others around him.

Squad is coming along great.

Short one elite fwd, winger and half back flanker for a flag. Emphasis on the word elite. This is not forgetting that a team (not individual) wins a flag. You still need quality. And despite the above we would still be carrying a few like the Pies did.

Of course we have potential elites in our squad. Bower/Watson down back. Yarran down back or half fwd. Hendo could becme elite. Gibbs could be the elite winger.

Given we have enough of a spread that could unearth who we need internal to our squad, i'm now more of the opinion to go best available in the next draft except for a ruck.

The 2010 draft relieved enough of the pressure on the needs debate for a few years.

I reckon if Lucas and Gibbs start becoming ultra damaging midfielders who kick goals and lace out Hendo repeatedly we will go a long way this year. Right now I feel Murph is the only one in the midfield who backs himself to kick goals and be able to dodge opponents running forward. Kade Simpson also has this confidence except to a lesser extent.

If Gibbs and Lucas add the polish to Judd's hustle and Murphy's game-breaking ability we will have a perfect cocktail for success.

The the defence will take care of itself on the back of a dominant midfield ala West Coast 2006

whats missing is a bit of mongrel, a bit of heart and the willingness to put the body on the line and bleed for the jumper.

and a genuine backline.

fullback - Jamison hasn't proven to be a premiership quality player yet. Just a presti type of player. A Scarlett or Lake type of player would make us. Someone who can stop an opponent and take marks and gather possessions as well. This year he will have to prove himself, lets see if the extra size improves him.

Center half Back - Bower's not physical enough and he seems to get out bodied, he's a bloody good 3rd tall though. Austin is never fit and yet to prove himself. Watson looks the goods but is still a kid.

Full forward - Waite needs to be better. Granted he had an injury interrupted year last year, this year he needs to fire. I recon he might.

CHF - Henderson has the athleticism, just needs i bit of extra strength and to hold his marks better. Getting injured preseason won't help.

3rd Tall forward - A lot of premiers have had one and having a good one makes a massive difference, especially to how much you can open you forward line up. Also stops sides with tall running defenders like Collingwood from getting too much run out of defence. I'm tipping our ruckmen to give us more in this area. Mitchell, Mcarthy or Casboult could step up but it's unlikely.

Our spine is still rated only on potential at this stage. It hasn't produced consistent results yet. Midfield should be good. Flankers and Pockets should be good this year. The spine needs to prove itself and start delivering results.

I'll take 50 goals from the FF and CHF instead of relying on a single big goal kicker...

Of course, but i still think we need a big bustling FF who we an rely on to kick 2/3+ goals per week week-in, week-out.

Hendo at CHF should be kicking around the 40 odd per season when he's fully developed.

Waite could kick the 50 mark if played exclusively at FF, but we know that'll never happen because he's so useful in a variety of positions.
