others might feel different, but to me personally that great film, will never watch again adage tends to be a pet hate of mine, cringe 99% of the time someone trots that empty cliche out (not directed at you, it’s a widespread meme)

but hey, I watched Threads twice this week and wouldn’t mind a third helping, maybe it just isn’t something that applies to me, maybe I’m just a defective twisted bleak-thirst sort and should accept that

Requiem is an enjoyable addictive piece of cinema, one I can watch repeatedly. Nothing edgelord about it for me, I’m unashamed about the things I like, not out to impress anyone.

A movie like requiem (or to Shell point) and irreversible is supposed to make you feel uncomfortable, its intention and purpose is to make you feel disturbed.

It doesn’t say anything about anyone to not find it hard to watch, same as people who can eat chilli arent tough or anything, but I feel like your missing out on the experience intended by the creator.

While I'm not so anal I would never re-watch a film - for me there must be a decent chunk of time pass by before I will - and its mainly nostalgic and not because I really liked a film

Back in the VHS days we would re-watch certain films over and over - Warriors/Wanderers/JCVD etc but since I adulted I dont go back to movies and I dont have DVDs or Blu-Rays or files -

My time of life at the time I watch a film is my experience and my memory.

I have noted in this thread that I have rewatched films but that its like a newish watch as my memory of them has faded

Having said that tho- a movie like The Accused (which imo the rape scene in that is more distressing than Irreversible) I've seen several times, mainly cause of Jodie Fosters outstanding performance.

I’ve rewatched both the aforementioned films. Not often and I take no issue with the description of “couldn’t watch them again” (I can’t imagine I’d rewatch either again any time soon and part of the rewatch was to make sure I hadn’t missed anything in the aftermath of the truly harrowing scenes).

I think the initial post about those films being “enjoyable” is pretty odd. Not to kink shame anyone but the movie is absolutely not supposed to enjoyable so I think you’ve really missed a critical part of the film if that’s how you view it.

There’s so many new films and TV available that I simply rarely find the time for a rewatch. That said, I think it’s making films less impactful. I’ve watched films within the last 12-24 months that I barely remember anything about.

My best chance of a rewatch is usually showing a classic to my kids.

Actually I did watch Irreversible twice- very quickly like within days. The fire hydrant scene didn't phase me in the slightest thought it was funny tbh.. but yeah the rest of it. I didn't notice the shadowy figure in the background who just walks away during the first viewing.

2 films of recent times that will be on my re-watch list would be Interstellar and The Covenant

I must say I am now re-watching as part of a franchise binge ie The MCU and Star Wars etc - more to get the chronological order to see how different they feel

Not really a musicals guy and part of this grated on me a little bit (dialogue as songs and weird bastardisation of words for seemingly no reason) BUT gotta say, it’s a fantastic spectacle and Cynthia and Ariana have magnificent chemistry and brilliant voices.

The production design is truly top shelf as well.

I think you've made a very wild leap here phantom, this assumption of kink (narrow definition of enjoyable), assumption of not feeling uncomfortable and disturbed to an extent, or missing out on the experience intended by the creator. It all misses the mark (no biggie though, all cool, don't feel guilty).

I think it’s a fair criticism (time allowed versus relatively to the event).

Nitram was made a LONG time post the event.

The Stranger was an interesting one, it’s the story of the sting operation to capture Daniel Morcombes killer but it never references him by name and didn’t use any links to the story in the marketing as the film makers consulted with the family. They were obligated to consult with (or listen to) the family but chose to, which I think was the right thing to do. Great film as well.

Conversely something like Pam and Tommy didn’t bother even speaking to Pam.

OT- The Sting the book is a fantastic read. Could not put it down

On the topic of good film, won't watch again:

Snowtown.

It was well made and particularly well acted by the lead. But once is enough, I think the fact it is based closely on real stuff contributes to that feeling. It makes it less an experience in enjoying art and more being a sicko voyeur in a way

Oh man I have that on DVD, watched it again about a month ago. Very hard watch that one, just find the entire story/setting etc fascinating.

And I don't think I've watched the bathtub scene without looking away for parts of it.
