Ive searched Google and havent found much on this. So im asking the question because I just got myself a pair of black skins for Christmas.

Ive never played with Skins before, and I didnt even think about what color they had to be. I played footy last year with a kid who played in bluish skins, however that was Junior football, and we are both now playing Under 18's this year. I'd like to know whether ill be able to play in them this year.

While we are on it, whats the rule for AFL players? Ive never seen them in anything other than the skin coloured ones. Is this the rule, or because nobody wants to stand out? Sounds like a fresh stunt for Kyle Reimers. ;):thumbsu:

I think the rule is they have to be the same color as your shorts or skin color.
 
It's an interesting one.

I once saw Brad Green wearing black skins from the knee down in a game at the MCG. His socks were pulled up for most of the game, covering the skins, but they became exposed at times.

skins have to be the same color as your skin or shorts at most senior levels of footy, in saying that i rekon you'll get away with it in under 18's. i think it might be a 50 dollar fine for the club if the umpires are ********s

Pretty sure they have to be beige. A guy on my team got told off for wearing black skins (juniors). If you have a darker complexity I think your still only allowed the beige ones.
 
probly bears no relevance to the topic but i had a teammate that wore black skins playin soccer in u/18's and nobody cared
 
There are the skin "leggings" which basically go from foot to just below your knee (covered by your sock so they can be black) and then I wore skin thigh's, which were of skin colour, so never had any drama with mine, its amazing since theres only a small amount of gap etc.
 
Different comps have different rules on just about everything these days, including use of gloves, and skins. For example as was said VAFA is beige no matter what, AFL i believe has to be beige and unbranded (more for marketing than anything) you would have to ask your club secretary to check into it. Not knowing can be very dangerous as you will almost certainly incur a fine and with grounds/economy etc most clubs just cant afford any fines at the moment.
Furthermore, it has been shown that skins really only aid recovery after excersise and that wearing them during activity doesn't do much except help posture.
 
Agreed with Phantom, I put my full-length tights on after a hard training session and keep them on until I get up the following morning. Almost completely erased the morning-after soreness.

They are good at keeping your legs warm during winter training sessions, though.
 
Im only wearing them as a comfort thing under footy shorts. I know theres no real advantage in wearing them ultimatley.

I wore them to bed last night and they are real comfortable though. :thumbsu::D
 
In the WAFL there was a rule that tights/skins had to either be the colour of your shorts or "flesh" coloured. Flesh is defined as somewhere between beige and pink.

As long as the skins that you are wearing are shorts and are approved by your local league you should be fine.
Skin colour or black is fine and they have to be short length.
Also if you have a skins top look at one of those muscle shirt type and you should be fine.

I umpire in them during the winter season. Although for a goal umpire we can wear the long length skins and the long length shirts underneath our umpiring uniform.

Rumour here that it's skin coloured for ALL LEG SUPPORTS from this year, but I can't confirm. Many players wear black skins without fuss.

For soccer - if you had a strict ref you could be asked to leave the field if your undershorts were different to the predominant colour of your shorts...

Probably not a great idea to wear full length skins in a game anyway, they will tear at the knees when you go to ground. They're really good at training because there isn't as much competitive work.
 
In the AFL you have to wear skin coloured skins i think
I am changing teams this year and i think we have to wear either navy blue or skin colour ( navy because of our team colour) i have black ones but now i also have skin colour.
I got skin colour instead of navy because you can wear skin colour for any team

they were black but its under 16s, nobody cares
wearing them didnt seem to make a difference in the way i felt though..

Thats the thing, I know that nobody cares at Under 16's, I think they might make a deal of it at Under 18's for me though.

Ive definatley noticed a difference in comfort at training the last few weeks. They feel really good. :thumbsu::p
 
alot of people here are saying that the rule is skin colour only. the thing is, what if the player is black? you would think black shorts on an african would stand out less then 'skin colour' shorts...

You would think so but in fact in most leagues regardless of skin color the rule is that they are in a beige skin color. Stupid and i would think a little bit politically incorrect but i have seen dark skinned teammates fined for wearing black skins.

Wait till you get older and bigger muscles. Skins help a lot, especially when it's cold.
