When have you unexpectedly run into a "rock" whatever star?

I wasn't recorded though  so I didn't make it on TV. It was part of the national tour earlier this year, playing theatres. Lots of fun, even if our team did lose.

For the record, the first album I bought with my own money was Iron Maiden Number of the Beast and my first concert was...

Drum-roll please

Highlight to reveal ----> Cliff Richard! <----

Julia paid out on me for that. I deserved it too.

Okay maybe I'm missing something, but wasn't that the episode that was shown just last Saturday? Also had Claire Bowditch and some guitarist dude and was shot in Toowoomba?

Caught a plane ride with the band 'The Tea Party' years ago

Have met most of Frenzal post gig, saw Gordy at a Bad Religion show a few years back

Ran into Pinky Beecroft once at Homebake

Jebediah were sitting at the table next to ours at Falls Creek one snow season (2004 maybe)

i only have three:

- dino from fear factory at a holiday inn in new york city.
- ken casey from dropkick murphys in adelaide after the gig. hung around at the front of the stage and he popped out 10 minutes after the gig had finished and shook hands. very nice chap.
- lindsay from frenzal post gig. seemed a bit spacy and was yelling at people to get over and buy the f*****g merchandise.

I was coming down the escalators in LIverpool NSW after watching a movie and I heard a voice that was very familiar and i looked up and it was Doc Neeson, i didnt have time to say anything because i was so dumbfounded as to why the fk he would be in Liverpool!.
My uncle used to go out with Doc Neeson's sister back in the 80's.

Saw System of a Down in the food court at Melbourne Airport in 2002 when I was 13 years old. Couldn't believe it when I turned around and saw Serj Tankian walking around, and then realising the rest of the band and various crew were there too.

As they were my favourite band at the time, I was shitting myself about going up to them and getting a photo with them, so chickened out.

Later on, being content with just spontaneously seeing them in the flesh like that, we realised that they were going to be on the same flight as my cousin who was flying up to Brisbane (SOAD had the Gold Coast BDO the next day). At that moment, we quicky rushed back to the car to get the camera, and when we got back, the band were sitting in the departing lounge.

Still shitting myself, my Dad goes up to them and asks if I could get a photo taken with them, and they couldn't have been any nicer about it. Daron Malakian shook my hand and Serj was more than happy say hi to us. Got the photo taken with my cousin, and the shocked look on my face was priceless as I still remember exactly what I was feeling at the time.

Though I hardly listen to them anymore, unexpectedly meeting my favourite band at the age of 13 is, and always will be, one of the greatest moments in my life.

I saw Kevin Mitchell at the Galleria shopping centre in Perth, he was just cruisng along by himself, I don't think anyone else there even recognised who he was.

Not that he really looks like a rock star, he just looked like the usual scruffy unemployed waster that frequents that place.

I have stalked and met a few over the years.

Eddie Vedder, Ben Harper, Shihad (Karl the bass player is a legend), The Angels, Brewster Brothers, but most of all Dave Gleeson from the Screaming Jets.

Gleeso is an absolute champ. I have drank beer, had photos and generally annoyed the living sh!t out of him. He can never do enough to please you.
Thorough gentleman!!

lol...
I agree with you about all the guys from shihad. I used to set up sound and lighting for bands. An many where alright some where rude an arrogant an ignored you. cough..bodyjar...cought. Which was worse cas they where a crap band anyway. But yea Shihad was my all time favorite. Wasn't really a fan before the gig. But they let me play there guitars told me about them an told me to let some girls back stage. Not for them but for me. Cos it was an under age gig. An I was 17 or so. So made me quite popular with some girls. Some of which I remain friends with now.

Adalita from Magic Dirt - that's a good lookin' broad right there. I'd hit it like a squash ball against a wall

My mate hanged out with her once, he said she was nicer than he thought cas she looks like she'd be a bitch. This was years ago an he said she cracked him up by telling him that she broke it off with Daniel Johns from Silverchair cos his **** was too small. Needless to say she was quite drunk at the time.:D

Ran into Michelle Madden (singer of Tourettes) after a Killing Joke gig at the HiFi 2003 - she was sitting in a van handing out flyers to promote her music. I was into her stuff up till then but was kicking myself for not recognizing her that night; She was rather well disguised (wearing a cap and upmarket gear for a rock chick). We got to talking for a while about her recordings and gigs in general - lovely engaging gal.

Back in 1991 - 2, Marc Hunter came into my adult bookshop and headed for the back corner while I was chatting to a mate. It was relatively busy that day with about five customers in the shop. So being the idiotic namedropping slavering celeb spotter that I was, I said "Hey, Marc Hunter, right... how ya doing?", to which he shyly nodded, smiled and quickly made an exit. Yep, discretion assured.

A few months later, Lisa Edwards (accompanying her partner) visited the shop quite regularly. I was of course way more discreet this time, but she was a cool customer (or more to the point, her partner was). Ran into her again a few years later at a gig (where she was a backing singer), we had a few knowing laughs over a drink or two. Very down to earth, and a good sport.

I've met a fair few band members before/after the couple of hundred gigs I've been to.

The main ones being;

N'Fa when he supported Resin Dogs at the Melbourne Zoo last year. After it finished he jumped the fence into the crowd and had a good long chat and got a photo with him.

Simon Fasolo and Rodney Aravena after a Kate Miller-Heidke gig last year that End of Fashion were supporting in St Kilda. Then the next night, Justin Burford as I was walking into the HiFi Bar, he saw me first and said hi, as he had known me by being at a heap of EoF gigs (and where I've yelled out something to him and the band members during songs). I went out and had a smoke with him and Simon Fasolo. I then met Mike Hobbs as I talked to all of the band members after the gig.

Then I was at the Evermore + End of Fashion gig in Perth, and as I was watching Evermore, Simon Fasolo saw me and came up to me... He said to hang around after Evermore and we'd go out. So we went to the nightclub that was part of the venue and I met a few of his friends, Peter and Dann Hume from Evermore. We drank backstage beers, shared smokes and talked (including a point where I may have told Evermore their new album is shit) for hours. I then had a nice hangover for the Geelong game. :p

The first time I properly met Ezekiel Ox (Mammal, Full Scale, The Ox and the Fury, Over-Reactor...) was at the Esplanade Hotel. He wasn't playing in any of his million bands that night and was just there by himself supporting some Aussie music. I had shaken his hand plenty of times before as he's noticed me with a Mammal beanie on, but every time that happened it was usually unexpected as I was either on the phone in the street or watching another band and the music being too loud to hear him ...oh, and at a Mammal gig he stood at the door shaking everyone's hand leaving the venue.

MC Bad Genius and Berkfinger at all of the Philadelphia Grand Jury gigs I've been to.

The guys from Calling All Cars, as I've seen them the most out of any other band.

and met 360 when having a slash at the Evelyn Hotel.

All awesome guys. :thumbsu:

Was going to the Palace in St Kilda to watch an Anthrax/Mortal Sin gig. We'd just had a few pre-show beers at the Prince of Wales and were going down Fitzroy Street when who should come bopping up but lead singer Joey Beladonna & axeman Dan Spitz. Cool blokes and pretty approachable.

I've also met the blokes from Obituary and King Diamond after a Celtic Frost gig, both at the Prince of Wales.

At a Brian Jonestown Massacre gig at the HiFi in Melbourne in 2008, Within 2 minutes of getting into the venue walked to the bar & a conversation struck up with Rob Campanella, who then introduced me To Joel Gion and Ricky Maymi, Chatted for a solid hour. Didn't get to meet Anton. Surreal experience as they are my favorite band.

Probably dodged a bullet on that one...

Lol. Justin Burford once made his profile picture this;

9522_130383887260_613617260_2928352_499032_n.jpg

which I took.

He's also commented on a status of mine. :p

Walked into the Wintergarden Tavern in Brisbane in 1993 and Mick Jones from the Clash was at the bar. Big Audio Dynamite were on the U2 tour (Zoo TV I think). Fantastic bloke. He got into a shout with me and a few mates and hung around for about an hour.

Sat in the seat behind Hank Rollins on a flight from Melbourne to Brisbane once. Very quiet. Had a quick chat as we were waiting to get off the plane.

The absolute highlight was being on the same flight as David Helfgott and getting a hug from the great man at the baggage carousel.
