When will Geelong finally be labelled the best side in the AFL currently?

They will be the best when they win the flag, or Collingwood lose the plot and lose half their remaining games. Also if Cats win again in R24 it could change perception, but people will probably still point to Hawthorn beating them in R22 last year.

Its the way it goes, if you win a flag the year before everyone thinks your the best until strongly proved otherwise.

Your right in your explanation, it does seem extension and complex. Do you find it to be reliable with your tipping/betting for example? or game predictions etc?

Yes and yes. Has been for quite a while. It actually is a better predictor at determining positions in finals rather than form in the H&A rounds. This is probably due to the weighting in the formula which heavily weighs towards the results against the top ranked opponents.

By the way Geelong has moved outright now, but that could easily change depending on results this week.

Three things:

1) Geelong have had a lot of narrow scrapes, whereas Collingwood have had larger victories and a far higher percentage.

2) St. Kilda were 19-0 in 2009 and finished top. Geelong won the premiership.

3) Geelong had a 1-2 record in finals in 2010, and the one win was against an interstate team in Melbourne. (Mind you, so did Collingwood in 2009, and then we all know what happened the next year)

However, another thing:

4) The amount of buzz about Geelong winding up third this year mystifies me, that's Ten and Sheahan on the "Geelong to mis the GF" bandwagon. While Carlton are definitely closing, my money'd be on a Collingwood-Geelong GF at this stage.
