When will the melbourne FC be Dissolved?

I can't believe people want to close the doors on a club that is an integral part of Victorian and VFL/AFL history. What possible benefit can it serve? Further, why do other people take pleasure in the idea of having thousands of supporters lose the club they have supported for years and cheered on and loved? What does the idiot Geelong supporter who started this thread hope to gain from this? less Victorian football, so we can get to see our own teams play less home games? so we can all marvel at the 'Gold Coast Thunder' in their pink and green strip with their theme song that sounds like a 1992 Gilette commercial? It's fine to hate other clubs and detest their supporters, but to hope that a club is dissolved because you don't like them is just the buck-tooth rhetoric of a f***wit hick.

I concur wholeheartedly with your post.

I don't care if they keep the Dees in the league even as a museum piece, they have been around longer than all of us, have the most unique history of all of us, and still have more flags on the board than three quarters of the teams in the AFL.

Melbourne has the same problem every Victorian club has had in the last 20 years. We aren't playing in our little isolated suburban comp any more. Only Essendon woke up and smelled the coffee and willingly moved with the times as they progressed rather than being forced to by lack of success or money. Which is why Sheeds will be a perfect fit at Demonland. Like Eddie at Collingwood, Aylett, Joseph and Casey at North, Cook and Costa at Geelong, Dicker and Kennett at Hawthorn and even Smorgon at Footscray and Dick Pratt at Carlton, they need someone to go into the club and let them know it's the 21st century and it's time to fall in with the direction the competition has taken.

I've said this on other threads the club needs to seriously take a look at itself. We have been sliding into oblivion for 30 years, it is time for hard decisions or we are doomed. For all the pot shots posters like Morgoth and The Chad make they do have a point.

The most pressing issue are
- selling home games compromises the entire competition. We must either play all home games at the 'G' or develop an alternate base ala Hawthorn. If the club was smart they could use the MCC connection to play the majority of Melbourne based games at the g at get a sweet draw.
- fix up the training facilities. This looks like it has been done. Is it any coincidence our playing group decimated by injury when you compare the sport science in clubs such as the interstate clubs?
- clean out the playing list dead wood. For all our supposed talent we have one one final since 2003. Not good enough, the club must look at trading the likes one of Bruce, Green, Johnstone while they still have currency. Delist Brown, Bizzell, Ward & Miller. Neitz & Yze to stay mainly due to being on the veterans list.
- Make tough calls on Moloney and Sylvia. If their bodies are no good, move them on. Sylvia would probably have solid trade value.
- No short term Sheedy fix, his record since 2003 is no better than the guy we sacked 2 months ago. We need a tough bastard, Hardwick to sort the place out.:thumbsu:

I can tell you it's your off field issues that need work more than your on field. You need the club to be prominent in AFL circles, and Sheeds is the man for the job. He will sort out your list too, and get you guys in the right track off field so that when he's done in a few years, your club will be in better order than when he got there.

They may have been the very first. They may be named 'Melbourne', but we all know the only reason this club doesnt seem to have a serious cloud over its head is Because they are the "Melbourne" Demons.

This is not a jab at the player group, lets get that straight off the bat.
I am talking about the club itself, its health, its supporter base, its crowd turnout, its potential for future development.

Over the past few months we have seen this uncaring fan base of melbourne's, so often stereotyped as a bunch of yuppies lost in the snowfields while they leave their member seats empty, but it seems the stereotype, at least the uncaring part, is true.

All I am asking for is an open dialogue, with all supporters, leaving biase out of it. Is Melbourne a hinderance on the competition, and are they are viable club in the future or are they a club that needs to be merged or dissolved?

This is my personal opinion;
Melbourne no longer is necessary in the competition, they do not represent a demographic relevant to a suburb, or can be identified as "Melbourne's" team and will never have the ability to forge itself as a premiership club again.
They should be dissolved, a 16th team should be made either in the gold coast, or in a place viable for growth in New south wales.

I will probably get a huge torrent of angry melbourne supporters, but my aim was not to personally attack them. Just to ask the question,
is the Melbourne FC necessary? I dont think so.

mate u are a true and true ****wit to the max! ****ing grow up mate. melbourne are the oldest club in the afl and have won more flags then ur club will ever win. and then to come out and say we need to move on is a desgrace!! how about u worry about ur club and we worrie about our club.

I just look at Essendon's list and draft / list management and cringe. I think egos have been indulged for too long, Sheedy tends to play favourites, something that has held our list back in the Daniher years. We need to take a step back before we go forwards IMHO.

Every coach plays favorites tho. It's unavoidable.

Essendon should have moved Sheedy into a different role two or three years ago, either on or off the field. They didn't and I don't think it has helped them. No doubts that there has been some ego stroking, but when you;ve been there that long, that too is unavoidable. I still think Essendon is a far better club for having Sheedy there than they would have been had he never coached them.

I think if Sheeds gets the Melbourne job he will take a few weeks to freshen himself up, and then get in there and put the broom thru a few departments that sorely need it. Sure you don't want him coaching you forever, but in the next three years I have no doubt he can add some things to your club that will stabilze and unite you and leave you with plenty to work with for the next decade.

Diabolical thread.

Amazing how enlightened one gets when one's club sits three games ahead on top of the ladder one round before finals.

It's so much easier to deconstruct a club than build one up...

Uncharitable, mean-spirited thread of the year.

Agree Austin, wont it be interesting to hear all these Geelong morons turn on their own if they choke in the finals!

Settle down fellas. The thread starter certainly doesn't express the opinion of this Geelong supporter.

What annoys me about guys like him is that he's clearly trolling and then spends the next 6 pages saying he's not.

Problem is that the AFL is becoming more and more of a business and if the MFC keep floundering off the field it will be fixed whether thats relocation, merger or they are dissolved as much as I hate to say it.

No. No no no. This won't do.

You're all shit. We'll never go away, ever. We were the first football club ever and we'll certainly be the last.

And for the record, you're all shit

Fair enough, this particular w***er wasn't around when you guys were doing poorly, speaks volumes for this type of supporter.
Hopefully you don't have many more like him.
