Play Nathan Brown?

Browny left us to play more in the mid field and play finals.....

With Wallace coming on board and really only Richardson as a solid forward performer will be play Brown from the pocket more often than Frawley used his goal kicking ability this year?

If so will Brown be happy about that?

I think brown in the midfield with Cogs and Johnno and one skillfull hardnut would be awesome. We have the Krakeours etc to pinch hit too.

I like Brown in the midfield, Bowden on the HB line.

I reckon more time up forward than this year, we will hopefully have more midfield options that will free him up to provide another goal kicking option.

i think he will play 70% up forward, 30% midfield. plough will be wanting to improve our strike power imediately and i think that will be done by playing ottens and brown mostly forward.

Listening to Wallace the other week on radio he said he believed Nathan Brown is a very good midfielder but not an elite midfielder, he then went onto to say his an elite forward. That would suggest he'll be spending more time up forward than in the midfield.

yeh darth tiger i think 70-30 is probably about right. If we are getting absoulotly smashed put him in the midfield. But i am liking a forward line of.

F: Brown Richo Schultz
HF: Pettifer Ottens Krakouer

already licking my chops over that set up, will be bloody unstoppable
cant believe ottens and brown have spent so much time in the middle of the ground this year really. but then i suppose considering the game plan it wouldnt have mattered who was up forward. with a decent game plan ie. moving it quickly through the middle and long kicks into the forward line, and those guys up forward, we will trouble a lot of sides. we really need to target a servicable ruckman so that ottens can be freed up to play forward. a man with his goal kicking ability is wasted in the ruck imho.

I don't think we were able to get best use out of Brown's adaptability this year because we were filling holes everywhere and because of the negative gameplan. I think he will be still called on to play a fair bit in the midfield until we can bring a lot of the younger players up to speed in there. I wouldn't mind seeing him used across the half backline fffrom time to time. One area we have fallen down badly under Spud is getting drive of the half backline. Putting Bowden back there has been a good move, but I think Brown could really turn defence into attack and make opposition forward lines accountable. From memory I think it is where he picked up AA honours at the Bullies.

I'd add Krakour to that list too Darth, suited more to forward line more than midfield in my opinion.
lol. we will be twice as good next year just by having players played in thier best positions. it seems half the team have been played in the wrong spots.

the only good move change was Bowden to HB

well, petts to the backline was a good one too, but mostly any moves spud made either didnt work, or he didnt leave the player in position for long enough.

The brisbane game mainly shows how good he can play down back...remember those kick outs? I remember one of them where he kicked it about 55 m into the center directly to stafford whom marked it easily then stafford kicked it long towards the forward line, pure beauty.

FFS ...........??? Why would you put Petiffer back to the forward line . About the only thing Spud got right was shifting him and Bowden to the backline . Saved the boys career

That , IMO , is ridiculous

The answer to the Brown conundrum is quite simple . Where did plough play him at the Bulldogs ?

I am hoping that he will be used in the same way as he was at the Western Oval to help solve our pathetic inability to kick a goal , with the odd pinch-hit in the midfield

My forward line would be something like this:

F. Brown Ottens/Shulz Campbell
HF. P.Bowden Richo Krakouer

Agree that Brown will spend more time forward than midfield, 70/30 as someone mentioned sounds about right.

Been listening to 3AW religiously this year and Wallace has offered glimpses regarding his thinking. Wallace has stated on a few occasions now that we need goals and we need them to come from multiple options. Before Wallace was announced Coach he stated that he would not play Richo at FF. He said we really need a strong target across half-forward and that Richo should be that target. Tony Shaw argued that Richo was playing well and kicking goals. Wallace countered that "what is best for Richmond as a team may not necessarily be best for Richo". ie Richo kicking 70 at FF is no good if that 70 make up 70% of the years tally.

Ottens should go back to FF where he can rotate with Shulz. What good are a heap of ineffective taps in the ruck if they don't directly influence the game. Same as all the marks he takes in positions that don't hurt the opposition. When Ottens is pulling down grabs inside our forward 50 then he is definitely able to influence a game. With the present ruck rules you only need someone to provide a contest. The fact that you have to tap the ball, and cannot take possession from the ruck, makes it easier to rove to opposition ruckmen, which is exactly what the opposition do to Ottens. Wallace won't chase a ready made ruckman but acknowledged the area needs addressing and as such we will look at a youngster who wont be ready next year. He will be happy to persist with Greg Stafford and use Ray Hall as a backup, whom he sees as a mobile option who tries hard and provides a contest.

Campbell, as we all know is nearing the end of his career, and IMO can no longer play a big role in the midfield or off half-back. He has always been a very clever footballer and at 189cm reckon he would make a handy forward pocket for the latter part of his career. He knows where to run to get the ball and generally his conversion is pretty good.

Krakouer looks more at home in the forward line than he does in the midfield and unlike Rodan he has a defensive side to his game and can make a tackle stick. Andy still might make it in the midfield but his fitness will have to improve a helluva lot.

I threw in Pat Bowden just to stir things up a bit. As a positive he would give us an additional mobile marking option across half forward and might make us a little less predictable than if Richo is there all by his lonesome. As a negative it could stifle Shulz's development as it looks a bit top heavy if we cram Ottens, Richo, Bowden and Shulz into the same forward line, unless of course Shulz can make a fist of CHB?

i like your set up one eyed. would be a potent mix and dont know why danny never tried ottens up forward more. i think you are right about cambo too, and pat bowden should be a target for miller for sure.

yeh i like Patrick Bowden up thee in the forward line with Otto and Campbo would be good there controlling what we do up forward and Joel Bowden controlling the defence

What are you giving up for P Bowden?

I guess you'll want to give us nothing so please be realistic. He would be considered important to the Bulldogs plans for next year.
