Where to for Petrie?

His opinion holds no more, but definitely NO LESS value than yours. Do you actually have opinions, or just replies without substance?

You're like John Thwaites to Moti's Jeff Kennett : "I don't have an opinion, all I know is that yours is wrong".

As a matter of fact i do have an opinion. I think that Petrie is a fine player who is lacking a bit of form at the bit. It happens to every player.

I just don't wrap myself up in the game like many do and embarrass myself by saying/posting observations that are so far off the mark that its not funny, and getting so worked up about a pre-season competition.

Moti really should keep his opinion about how our players play to himself and actually support the side, because i confidently doubt he has the football credentials to be critical.

I reckon throw Petrie in the ruck for awhile...I know hes not our best ruckman but at least he will get a few touches

I would only throw Petrie in the Ruck in Hale was resting, McKernan was either not playing or not playing well and we didn't want to move Thompson out of the forward line.

In other words .. I would try very hard not to.

I mean perhaps with his hard-nuttedness, 1%ers and tackling skills we should give him a go at playing a very very very tall ruckrover.

Partciularly if we need to slow the game down a bit maybe have hale go up for the ruck and have Petrie or Archer in the middle to have a big body in their to hit hard and tackle sort of thing

That could get him to the ball just as much as being the ruckman, could possibly throw off the opposition and still gives Hale the opportunity to learn the Ruck Caper.

Whilst I probably spend more time disagreeing with Moti than agreeing with him, I don't think there is anything really offensive with what he posts. Sure, some of what he posts is just plain bollocks, but in the end, at least he tries to justify his opinions - it's a hell of a lot better than the usual "player X is a dud, let's get rid of him because he's useless" posts.

And if football credentials is an issue, then where do we draw the line? I've never played a game of footy in my life (stop chuckling there Darky), so should I keep my opinions to myself? I'm pretty sure that many people here haven't played footy since school days - maybe they should shut up? How many of our female posters have played footy? Should they keep their views quiet?

What irks me about footy credentials is that no one ever questions them when parties are in agreeance.

"You agree with me, but you must be wrong cos you've never played a game of footy". Don't hear that too often.

Rd 3 Wizza Cup beckons.......Sav's out , Thommos in....Would be surprised if Petrie is omitted.

Question....How long did the selection committee persist with Corey McKernan early last year in the home /away season?

Petrie should be afforded at least the same time to regain some form. After all , this is only Rd 3 of the Wizza.

I think we expect a hell lot from this bloke, afterall he has shown us that he has the potential....Other young CHF's such as the one at St Kilda have had off patches at times as well. The St Kilda version is also starting to throw the odd Richoesque tanti at times as well. At least our bloke doesn't fall to that caper.

There are some 'experts' on this board who know much more than the coach/coaches, the match committee and the current board.
And for the players, well, the 'experts' also know and presumably can play better than them. That's why they are sitting behind a computer. So North is in very good hands.
The Marcia Hines of BF?

If criticism and negative opinions of players was left only to the people involved in the club, this would be a very boring board.
:D In light of an analogy I've used on another thread... she might be likened to the Queen of the Stepford Wives! Let's all hand in our brains folks!

FWIW, I agree with the general view that Petrie has lost form and that this is disappointing and concerning. I agree that he does 'hard yards', but share the view that it doesn't appear to be 'smart' and the number of marks he misses (and goals) is frustrating. As a supporter I'd love to see him hold more marks, particularly as the CHF, and I'm imagine his team mates and coach would love that too. I sincerely hope he regains form.

Pity I disagree with Flaymin' Maurie and Queen Michele though, it must mean I'm disloyal and not credible. Tell me guys, is anyone who is ever critical of anything or anyone to do with the club, credible? I'll give you a free hit with the fact that I too 'never' played footy, and am not currently a member.

(NB Shinners, you've started something... reminds me of that Kevin Kline film, where all his friends and relatives said "I'm gay too".) How's things BTW?

Petrie is out of form, but form is only one week away from changing. Most players that have the ability but lack the performances find that there is a mental barrier that just can not be overcome by training or hard one percenters on match day. Not only do they have to beat their opponent they have to beat their self-doubt and that is often a far more tougher opponent than any opposition player.

He drops a gimme mark and misses a sitter goal from 30m out and that was effectively game, set and match for Petrie last week. The only thing that I find frustrating is the lack of faith some players have in themselves. Guys like Petrie and McKernan fall to pieces when things do not go their way. Guys like that need more mental or psychological training during the off-season than they need physical or skill training.

As much as I sympathise with their plight, they are professional footballers. We go out and we support them, wish them the best, outside of that it is beyond our control. As far as I am concerned if someone plays like crap then they played like crap, no need to be one-eyed like some clubs. As long as we do not go looking to hang them from the nearest tree then I have no problem with critisism. Hell, they are paid more than enough for that kind of review.

Petrie gets off relatievely free compared to guys like Harding and Watt, people have unrealistic expectations of some players and not others.

Petrie will come good in time, but while he plays like a donkey then there is no reason for people to suggest otherwise. He will one day get sick of getting whipped by third-rate defenders and he will break free of the psychological shackles that cause him to bumble chest marks blind people would hold onto.

Until then all we can do is hope that day is going to be the next game he plays.

Well, Port Melbourne...for quite a while.
Let him stay there the prick.

How can you drop a simple mark like he did?

An u/10 could get those FFS

Yep, it was time about round 3 last year but JYD didn't have the guts to drop him because he was recently promoted to a team leader. Dropping him is not just for our sake, it is for his. He can't go on week after week dropping dead set sitters.

He can take Corey with him...

I would ruck him in the praccie this week.

If he doesn't get a kick, he plays round 1 with Port, depending on how Chad is looking.

Nah, take him back now, he might get some form prior to round 1. We also need to promote McIntosh and Chad Jones and see if either one has the desire and ability to play AFL football before we hit the real season.

Petrie was not our problem tonight.
He actually started okay, but dropped his head after that free kick, which followed a pathetic free against him.
Of our talls, he was actually one of the best tonight, which is admittedly not saying much, and clearly putting in the best effort.
Thompson unseen, Hale good for a brief period, McKernan dreadful.

I must admit when Petrie crashed into that bloke and gave away the free I was actually thinking it was a positive in that he was showing some aggression, however misplaced it may have been.

I think Dean may have handled it wrong, or Drew got the wrong message because when he came back out he was not inspied at all. In fact he was insipid and looked to have dropped confidence even more. He watched a couple of contests up forward he should have got to easily. I was hoping he would come up pumped up and using his body to impose himself on some contests and create some presence. I think he is a bit soft at the moment.

He did get a few marks around the ground later on, but after missing THAT mark in the second quarter I am convinced he needs some time at Port to regain some confidence.

Give Hamish a crack against the Saints next week!

Why was LeCras left out of the forward line so much tonight?

I'm ropeable JYD hasn't played this guy yet. One game won't be good enough to see if he's a good enough for this level. FFS, he might be better than Petrie and could be a good replacement for him until Petrie regains his 2002-2003 form. Laidley should play our worst possible side next week. Don't really care about the result just want to see who will play well from the youngsters. And maybe he should throw Petrie in there well to see if he really is a leader.

I was at the game and Petrie and Mckernan should not be playing for 2-3 weeks in the seniors. Petrie seemed to be moving very well in the first half but its his confidence at taking a mark thats a problem. He just isnt up to it at the minute, but i have faith and he will come back and play well. Maybe it is Mcintosh who should have a crack next game and see how he goes. Mckernan! Wow, he is GONE. I watched him at training on Thursday and he marked well and presented himself well but he is absolutely terrible when it comes to game time. What a waste of talent.

Something like this would be good for next week:

B: Gibson-Watt-Perkins
HB: Pratt-Baird-Schwarze
C: Grima-Watson-McMahon
HF: Thewlis-Moran-Petrie
F: Harding-Chad Jones-Shane Harvey
R: McIntosh-Smith-Harris
Inter: Firrito-Grant-Harvey-Simpson (Just to add a bit of leadership to the side)

No way it will happen though.

EDIT: Posted ^^^^^^ that out of frustration but I'll leave it there for fun. This would be better:

B: Sinclair-Watt-Perkins
HB: Pratt-Brown-Makepeace
C: Rawlings-Simpson-Harvey
HF: Corey Jones-Thompson-LeCras
F: Harding-McIntosh-Grant
R: Hale-Wells-Harris
Inter: Sansbury-Smith-Stevens-Grima

IN: Smith, McIntosh, Grima, Harding
OUT: Motlop (Rest for shoulder), McKernan (Bad form), Colbert (Rest), Schwarze (Didn't really impress), Picioane(To see if Grima is better), Petrie (Bad form)
