Curious to know which award is held in higher regard to everyone.

The brownlow is voted on by the umpires and seems to be following a trend that the person who wins the brownlow is not necessarily the best and fairest for the league but rather the player who performs best for their own team consistantly.

The MVP is voted on by a players peers and seems to go to the player who has had the stand out year.

Whilst I was always a huge fan of the brownlow Im leaning in favour of the MVP. I think its a greater honour to be voted on by your peers rather than the umpire.

I've always held the MVP in high regard. The name of the trophy brings prestige to the award, looking at the list of winners that have won it, it's just as impressive as the Brownlow. The Brownlow will always be "the night of nights", but the MVP is also a great award.

Ask alot of people that dont follow football like a 2nd religion to name as many MVP's as you can from the decade. Then ask the same with the Brownlow. The Brownlow would win 9.8/10.

The MVP will never be held in higher regard simply because its a mickey mouse award and there are way too many agendas on the people voting.

As much as Judd was lucky to win it, the Brownlow is unbiast and they have no agendas apart from picking who they (opinion) is the best on that day.

Brownlow by a country mile, and the people who say MVP are the kids who should be in bed by now.

Brownlow.

The MVP is an American term just doesn't have the same ring to it as the Brownlow Medal.

Young kids would dream about winning a Brownlow, not the Leigh Matthews Trophy.

Even though it's a midfielder's medal, having people who are at the game and on the ground vote is a better system than players who probably didn't even see every game live or on TV.

Voting Process

Step One – Club Nominations

Each player votes 3-2-1 for their teammates for the Leigh Matthews Trophy for Most Valuable Player.

The votes are tallied resulting in the final nominations:

* Three players from each club nominated as Most Valuable Player

Step Two – Voting

The nominations are then presented by AFL Players’ Association to the Clubs.

*Players select three players on a 3–2–1 basis.
*Players cannot vote for their teammates.

A representative of the AFL Players Association is in attendance while the players vote to ensure the integrity of the process.

Step Three – Awards

The final votes are tallied under the supervision of the AFL Players Association.

Brownlow is a better round by round guide to a player's form.

A Brownlow Medal is what every footballer would want to win.

I've never understood the point in having the player's vote for a MVP. I'd say it's very unlikely that every player in the AFL watches every single game of the home and away. Therefore they are voting on the few games they have seen of/played against each team, or the opinions of others (media etc.).

I do think the Brownlow has it's flaws, but at least the people voting actually saw each game.

So to answer the OP, I think the Brownlow is held in higher regard.

P.S. I think the Coaches Association MVP is a better guide than both of them.

Brownlow for me.

The MVP isn't even awarded to the MVP. The most valuable player is the player who your team can I'll afford to lose through injury or suspension not the bloke who had the best year. Rename it to reflect what it truly is or make the players aware of what they really should be voting for.

The Coaches award should be the most highly regarded.

Both coaching teams vote immediately after the game, giving 5 votes each. The coaches know what roles players were sent to perform, and they know who had the biggest impact on the result.

Brownlow.....umpires tend to favour the flashy blokes, hence why Judd & Goodes, tend to always poll well as you notice everything they do.

MVP...many players admit to having no interest in football outside of what they are paid to do....how would a struggling Collingwood player, say a C.Wood, who doesn't play many AFL games, doesn't watch that many AFL games work out who the best player is?? Just goes by media reputation unfort.

Coaches is the best reflection on who had the best year.

Agree also most the MVP awards comes from a top team side effectively ruling out players in inferior sides despite them sometimes having a superior season.
