Seeing there is no genuine thread for the backline - chad trade, thought it would be good to whip one up. Im sure many people will be in different situations here, as some people will have the top backs (i.e. mackie, fisher, bock, shaw etc), or at least a couple of them, and then some wont. Therefore it will be a mixed bag of who will be picking who. Just thought id chuck it out there to see what people will be doing

Out of the top backs i have (fisher, mackie, shaw, goddard), theres now a short list of the options in the backline that tickle my fancy. Its just a matter of which one...

...Birchall, Joel Bowden, Bock, McPhee, PBurgoyne, King, Drummond, Walker, Johncock, McMahon, Milburn, Chris Johnson,

I've got a massive dilemma with Chad and Ablett.

If i win this week, I've got a great chance of getting 4th position in my league come finals.

With only 3 trades left however, I've got 3 options:
1/ Go for the win this week by trading Ablett > Thompson and Chad > Mackie :
Can't believe Ablett got 2 70's and an injury since I traded him in; Mackie is the best defender out there for me (have Shaw, JC, Bock, Burgoyne).
Will leave me with just 1 trade for finals tho.

2/ Trade Chad to someone near his price range. I'm thinking Symes. Or Goo or Birchall. Is anyone looking at Bradshaw though? 2 trades and no cash.

3/ Don't trade and hope Burgoyne AND Selwood play. Then get Guerra the following week when he is a very cheap 255K. Leaves me 2 trades and about 70K.

Option 1 would leave me with a pretty solid team, top4 chance very achievable but it's the 1 trade that worries me. (Myers, Eddy and Valenti emgs).
Option 2 just feels like I'm throwing away a trade for not really any gain.
Don't think I'll finish top4 with this option.
Option 3 at least gives me room to manoeuvre.

Is trading out Ablett just insane?? He could be out for another 2 weeks IMHO.

Option 2 or 3. Don't burn a trade with 6 rounds still to go so I would cancel option 1 immediately - when Gablett is back he scores enough for 2 players, so I would be very hesitant to trade him out.

Option 3 seems good because you delay another week - what if a big gun goes down? But the flip side is why have 300K sitting on your bench. Symes would be an OK pick-up.

Which Back for Chad Cornes?

I personally don’t have Chad in my team, but here are some options in the backline that I would be looking at.

Nathan Bock
Price - $366,100
Average – 89.44

Has been a solid player all year, and had been consistent with a lowest score of 58 and a high of 151 in round 12. Has been a very popular player this year with 40,126 selections. Plays a link up / rebound / running defender along the half backline for the Crows thus the big scores.

Sam Fisher
Price - $373,100
Average – 87.75

Plays a similar role to Bock in the Saints line up. Has been consistent throughout the season with his lowest score coming in round 6 with 45. His form over the past 3 weeks has been very good with two 100+ scores. Also has the 22,308 selections.

Heath Shaw
Price 303,500
Average – 83.69

He is an absolute bargain at his price considering his capabilities, and if your not one of the 80,834 people that have him I would be looking at him strongly, Yes his form of late hasn’t been great due to tags ect, but he can pull out 120 + 150+ as well, hasn’t been all that consistent but is as cheap as chips.

Darren Milburn
Price – 332,700
Average – 82.81

Is fairly priced and is very consistent, only dropping below 75 on 4 occasions throughout the season, doesn’t pull out the 100 + scores a lot but he has done over the past 2 weeks, similar to Fisher with selections with 24,862.

Andrew Mackie
Price - $363,500
Average – 91

Has been super consistent all season with his lowest score of 60, only 3 scores over 100 but 6 other scores over 85. Plays a running defender in the Geelong side and with only 8,025 picks would be a unique pick.

Brendon Goddard
Price - $342,200
Average – 83.14

Has been consistent all season getting around he 75 – 80 mark all season, plays a similar role to Mackie with a long penetrating boot on him. Also only has the 9,542 picks so could make a handy pick up.

Grant Birchall
Price - $288,100
Average – 76.50

Has been very consistent all year bar the game against Essendon when he got tagged. Always scores around the 75 mark and is still yet to break the 100 this season. A bit more popular than the last 2 with 16,030 picks but is cheaper if your strapped for cash.

Paul Wheatley
Price - $392,300
Average – 90.43

The most expensive back at the moment and can score 100
+ doing so on 5 occasions, with a lowest score eof 43 on the first round he has been very consistent. More expensive but only the 1,865 picks so he is very unique for his score capabilities.

Brent Guerra
Price - $284,500
Average – 76.75

Hasn’t been in good form of late, I am unsure why as I haven’t seen a lot of Hawks games but may be due to a role change or being more defensive and accountable to his opponents. Can pull out the 100+ scores and has done so 4 times, not the most consistent player with 4 scores under 55 but still an option if the money is tight.

After looking at all these stats and what not the best options in my opinion are Mackie and Wheatley bot super consistent and hardly any selections.

Hope this helps some struggling coaches.

I've been super conservative all year with my choices, but this close to the end of the year, with 4 trades left and 16 places to make up to win, I'm thinking of going either Guerra or Drummond. Leaves 3 trades, money in the bank and some potentially big scores.

Which Back for Chad Cornes?

Brendon Goddard
Price - $242,200
Average – 83.14

Has been consistent all season getting around he 75 – 80 mark all season, plays a similar role to Mackie with a long penetrating boot on him. Also only has the 9,542 picks so could make a handy pick up.

Cheers mate, got my hopes up  he's $342,200.

I wouldn't trade in Wheatley. At this stage of the season when you are running low on trades, the last thing you would want to do is trade in an injury-prone backmen.

Yes you do have a point but, if your looking to break into the top 500 or so or just going for the league win a more " Unique " player may just give you the edge over your rivals. Still in my opinion Mackie is the best option.

If I could afford Mackie, I'd be all over him like a rash, so I've come up with a plan - I have 2 trades remaining and havn't traded out The Chad, Porpoise and still have Dean Cox (with Luenberger/Mumford as my ruck bench so no chance of cover)

With all this talk of Dean Cox not playing the season out (find it hard to believe given his last few games) I'll keep both my trades until either A) Cox calls it quits -> downgrade him to Hille or Sandi and use to extra money to upgrade Chad to Mackie or B) I'm out of second chances in my league and then trade Chad for Birchall/whoever is cheap and upgrade Porpoise... I am top of my league by 1 game and have only 1 losable game remaining before finals with cover for Chad (in Taylor) and cover for Porpz (in Dew, Tippett)

My only concern now is all the talk of Porpz playing this week with a b/e of about 180. He will plummet in price, likely score badly carrying an injury/playing forward and possibly reinjure himself. Therefore I can take a punt this week by downgrading Chad to Birchall/Guerra and upgrading Porps for Franklin/Murphy. Any thoughts?

Just to throw up another name....

Andrew Welsh...playing a tagging midfield role now and had 30 odd touches a couple of weeks back. Missed all but the first 15 minutes last week but looks set to return again on Saturday.

Cheap as...but a fairly huge risk...

Johncock OUT
lucky i didn't pull the trigger

looks like Daniel Pratt is my no.1 target
this is not like me, but i'm gonna go for it. only averaging 73 for the year, but averages 85 over the last 7 rounds, and 97 over the last 4. his uniqueness could actually help me up the rankings. so why not?

What about McPhee??

Named on a HB Flank this week could see a return to previous years scores?? Is he likely to play and stay down back?

I agree, and If anybody can answer my question today I will be picking up McPhee - He has a kid due in September, anybody know when? I'd hate for it to be due on the 1st and drop a day early and he misses the Saints v Dons game in rd 22...
