UK Squeeze were not a one hit wonder - the Best of UK Squeeze is one of the greatest compiliation albums ever - My favourite "Up the Junction"

They were in Australia. Pretty much had just one hit, despite having heaps of hits in the UK.

Working my way back to you - The Spinners

Dexy's M Runners - already said

The Vapours - Turning Japanese

I used to like "What about me" but can't stand it now - ruined by some half baked Oztrayan singer.

I second the "only for sheep" - an absolutely sensational song.

I've got "The Knack" album, there is more than one good song on it.

The Vapors

Promises - Baby it's you.
Skinny blonde with tight blue jeans, white blouse that stuck out way in front. (mmmm yummy) She had her brothers on guitar.

The Bureau - Only for Sheep

Top little album.

One member of the band did kick on after they broke up and that was Mick the keyboardist and Paul Wellers sidekick from Style Council

Other worthy mentions

Living on a Ceiling - Blamange

Cool for Cats - UK Squeeze

IIRC from the time "Tempted", "Annie get your gun" and "Hourglass"(of all tunes) were hits of sort in Australia. Despite being one of the best power pop bands in the world in the late 70's and early 80's Squeeze really suffered from lack of airplay in this country. Probably due to the fact that FM hadn't really taken off and all the AM stations played muzak. It's the only thing that can explain how "Up the Junction", "Pulling Mussells from the shell" and "Another nail in my heart" weren't huge hits.

Brother was actually the keyboardist. Matching braces.

"Screaming Jets" by Johnny Warman - "Armageddon, Armageddon"

They Might Be Giants

Check out the Compilation Album 'Dial A Song', It's a classic. 52 Singles, B-sides and songs that were placed on their Telephone Answering machine. Check out Documentary as well, as it's very interesting the way they started. By the way, they had about 3 or 4 "Indie" hits in Australia in the late 80's early 90's. 'Don't Lets Start', 'Birdhouse to Your Soul' & 'Istanbul (not Constantantinople)' are absolutely brilliant.

Not to put too fine a point on it, Birdhouse is one of the finest songs I have ever heard. Had a minor hit a year or two back with "Man Its So Loud In Here". Their most well known song (crap though) is Boss Of Me, theme to Malcolm In The Middle.

Seriously, how do you expect to gain the respect of someone if all you do is cast slurs on them?

I'm capable of making assessments against you too, but have the common decency to keep them to myself until I meet you in person and can form a more accurate opinion.
Oh sorry, common decency. foreign concept to you.

Ah but one thing. I don't cast aspersions indiscriminately.
If you're going to label me with offensive labels, I think you should be accountable.

Day Trip To Victor was a great song, wasnt it

Just for the record I've been an XTC fan since "White Music" and I don't recall "Making Plans for Nigel" getting anywhere near the top ten in this country.
