Simple Question.

Potentially complex reasoning. (E.g. Team X will rise b/c of Player Y having a break out year)

Which 8 teams will make the finals in 2011?

Please vote 8 times only, and remember it is never too early to speculate!:thumbsu:

I tossed up between Melbourne and Adelaide, but Melbourne has the best draw in the history of the game (only three away interstate trips, play GC, West Coast and Richmond all twice, only two 2010 finals teams they play twice are Hawthorn and Carlton), so I'm going to back them in.

Not so simple for some - Bong Rips votes for every team and Donnakebab's 8 is:

Gold Coast
Bombers
Brisbane
WCE
Power
Roos
Tigers
Crows

We routinely get a good draw due to all of the requests for clubs to play home games against us in Melbourne, such as your own club every Queen's Birthday.

Despite that, Melbourne's draw is better than any draw we've ever had. The fact that Collingwood regularly gets a good draw only serves a measuring stick to how good Melbourne's is.

Feel free to point out the year where we only had three away games interstate, and played the three lowest finishing sides from the previous year, if you disagree.

We play 4 interstate games, one of which is in the week before finals, a pretty big disadvantage if we are to make it there. Our draw is definitely the best we have had that I can remember but it is basically exactly the same as yours every year, and I know that is because everyone wants to play home games vs. collingwood, not "favouritism" that the idiots carry on about. Reckon around 07 you would have played the bottom 3 of previous year twice at a guess (Carlton, Essendon, Roos?) haven't looked tho so could be wrong

Re: ********* WHICH TEAMS WILL MAKE THE FINALS IN 2011? (Please Choose 8) *********

we definately have a favorable draw, IMO the only clubs that can really complain about the draw are the interstate teams... but thats the nature of the beast as the majority of sides are VIC

You play one home game interstate at a neutral ground. It was YOUR choice to sell that home game, and it should count in addition to your interstate away games, not instead of them.

You only play three away games interstate, which as far as I know, no team has had since Port Adelaide joined the competition, including Collingwood, despite all of the bleating.

Reckon around 07 you would have played the bottom 3 of previous year twice at a guess (Carlton, Essendon, Roos?) haven't looked tho so could be wrong
We play Carlton and Essendon twice every year, so it's a constant - When those teams are bad it's a benefit, but when they're good, it's a hurdle. The point is that it's a coincidence if we play them twice and the teams happen to be bad. Considering that over the history of the league, those teams are generally good a lot more often than they're bad, I wouldn't be considering it a boon.

You don't play West Coast, Richmond and obviously not the Gold Coast twice every year historically, so when you get that draw, it can be considered an extremely fortunate fixture. If those three teams are powerhouses in three years time, you're not going to still be playing them twice every year to balance out having played them twice when they were bad.

All of these things are not within the realms of what we get "most years". In 2010, we played all three of the other top four sides from 2009 twice each. I would much rather have travelled to West Coast and Adelaide, rather than play Geelong and St Kilda twice each.

In 2011, you won't play anyone who finished above 7th in 2010 twice.

If this was the NCAA and they used a strength of schedule measuring system, Melbourne's would measure out amongst the easiest in the last 10 years.

I'm not saying it's a conspiracy - I'm just saying that your schedule IS easy, and because of that, I've picked you to make the finals. That's all I was ever saying.

Alphabetical order

Adelaide -
Had a horrible run with injuries to key players at the beginning and during the year. When on song has one of the best styles of play to watch. Expecting them to dispatch Sydney from the final 8.
Carlton -
With another pre-season under the belt to the likes of Warnock, Lucas, Yarran, Bower, Jamison, Murphy (who wasnt in full training until half way through the year), Gibbs (who will be played more in the midfield) Henderson & Waite there is far too much improvement available for them to not get better.
Collingwood - As much as it pains me to say this, the Premiership is theirs to loose. Will definitely get better, the only thing stopping them is a severe injury to Jolly and Pendlebury.
Fremantle - Play enough games at home to get them their. Having said that, they are good enough to snatch a few games away from home which will enable them to comfortably get into the finals.
Geelong -
Will be interesting to see how they adjust to the new coaches and being without one of the best players in the comp. I suspect the beginning will be a bit rusty, but they have way too many quality players around the entire ground to not be another huge force next year.
Hawthorn - Boom or bust year i feel. Big years need to be had from the likes of Roughead, Burgoyne, Ellis, Lewis and Rioli. Their back line needs a bit of continuity, but there is enough class to get them over the line in most games. Needs to hope that Buddy stays on the park or else it could be doom.
St.Kilda - Final chance at the big dance i reckon. In desperate need of some serious speed. Hayes will not be getting any better, neither will the like of Montagna, Dal Santo, Dawson, Gilbert and Kosi. That's the core group of the elite talent. Obviously Riewoldt with a full pre-season under his belt makes them significantly better already, and Goddard just an absolute star (probably my favourite to win the Brownlow next year at this stage)
Western Bulldogs - Good additions over the trade period, and through the draft. Is somewhat an aging list to the key position players in Lake and Hall, but have enough players in their prime to do some damage (Griffen, Cooney, Sherman & Higgins.
