I gave up on The Whisky Club. There were too many ordinary whiskies, not to mention the "exclusive" offerings that proved to be not as exclusive as claimed.

I joined The Single Malt Whisky Club instead. It's the same deal: the chance to opt out every month. I get maybe two thirds of them, mostly Australian whiskies and rarely a dud.

Yeah think I'll close my account there as well. Been stung a couple of times for bottles I didn't want because the monthly email ended up in my junk folder and I missed the Opt Out option.

Managed to pick up a few barrel samples from Old Kempton and had a few of their bottles on hand and given it's winter made the call to review them all in succession. The main takeaway was their cask strength excels, anything below 50% ABV is very hit and miss. Have ranked them all below with a score out of 100.

i dont mind Old Kempton, but like a lot of the other Tasmania whiskeys it is a complete rip off on the price point.

Their classic Single Malt is like $220 bucks....for the same price you can get a Dalmore Cigar Malt, for 40 more bucks you can get a 15yr old Macallan.

Recently bought a bottle of Balcones Brimstone. Texas whiskey, sweetish with a little kick.

Tried it ages ago and couldn't find where to buy it in Australia. Apparently will no longer be imported in a months' time. Worth a try is nice

Love Balcones, the single barrel single malt is probably my favourite. Where did you hear that it won't be imported anymore? That'll be a shame.

Nicks has the Brimstone on sale at $100. They're out of stock with most of the rest of the range, so maybe it's already no longer being imported?

Good place to try some American whiskeys.

Side note grabbed one of the 58 bottles of 'The Beast' by Tassie Distillery Spring Bay.
Comes in at a hefty 70.9%, aged for 5 years in a medium char 100l McWilliams Sherry cask.

Buffalo Trace has been a big winner for me of late as a reasonably priced Whiskey.

Been sitting on a suntori hibiki for like 12 months. keep waiting for that occasion that feels worthy lol
