And a lot would say that is exactly why he isn't held in the highest regard... in a lot of ways, he was a total sell out.
And while we're here, Johnny Rotten!
There are a lot left. I don't know how many will get as big as exposure as Elvis/Lennon/Jackson.
Dylan and McCartney should. Elton John probably will. Not sure who else.
With the passing of Michael Jackson today and the deaths of Elivs and John Lennon who are the only true legends of Music still around! IMO they are;
John Mcarthney - Beatles Legend
Elton John - Great singer and songwriter plus entertainer
Madonna - The Queen of Pop
Bono - Lead singer of U2
Is there anyone elso that I have missed?
Grace Slick is another one with a great voiceNot a massive fan of her music (although she had a great voice), but judging purely on how she looked in the late 1960s (she's obviously aged and gained weight these days), she'd have to be one of the most attractive females I've ever seen:
Nobody beats Barry Gibb or Roland Gift for male falsetto in popular music
That doesn't mean they any good.It's not like the radio/TV will promote death metal or opera music to get millions records sold.MADONNA for example could never be established as a good singer ever.She fails as a artist as she lip sync live in concert,sure she can dance but unlike the other 4 she is useless really.You would find that that would be records sold (Album sales plus single sales)! If that is the Case then Madonna has sold over 310 million records as she has sold 190 million albums and 120 million singles! The top 5 highest selling Artists of all time according to media traffic are;
THESE ARTISTS ARE THE BIGGEST MUSIC ICONS OF ALL-TIME AND PROBABLY IN THAT ORDER TOO!
- THE BEATLES
- ELVIS
- MICHAEL JACKSON
- MADONNA
- ELTON JOHN
Yes she can sing but her music does really suck especially for a guy.this thread is not about album sales.
Who are the only music legends still around today?
Mariah Carey a music legend?
Wow there is a lot of Women and Gay Men in the world as i think there would be more of a market for them with this type of music.I'm not saying no straight men would buy her music but the percentage of people would be more women as her music is about love and relationship stuff.according to Sony BMG both Celine Dion and Mariah Carey have sold over 200 million albums world wide
I know that and I agree he is talented.
I just don't enjoy his music. I never said that he was enjoyed by people because he wasn't mainstream, I simply raised that as a possible reason (There are many people out there like that).
There is just something about him that I don't get and I can't quite understand why everyone raves about him.
Yes Kate Bush has one of these female vocals that are unique same goes for Stevie Nicks,Grace Slick and even Tori Amos and Sharon den Adel from Within Temptation and Tarja TurunenWhen it comes to women I'd nominate Kate Bush. My favorite female artist and I've been in love with her and her wonderfully unique music for years.
She is influenced by the queen of fake music,Madonna.Every single wannabee will follow after I'm gone and your gone and sell 50 Millions.There will always be 10-25 year old girls and guys who act like girls who like to dance and act all girl like buying their music even if they play it live lip syncing to it.What would you say about Britney.
Personally I think her music is trash, however she is a massive artist worldwide.
Having said that, how influential is she? How many female artists are influenced by Britney? I can't think of any, but then again I don't really listen to many female artists.
I reckon Tony Iommi is the real guy in Black Sabbath,sure Ozzy was the character with the vocals,but no one plays like him,his style is different.I still think Tony Martin was the best vocalist they ever had,sure Ozzy had the big well known hits.Ozzy last couple of records with Sabbath were rather terrible when Tony Martin and Ronnie James Dio records with them all songs were reasonably good.Ozzy will be a massive loss when his time comes.
Black Sabbath have influenced almost anyone that has ever picked up a guitar.
Well if you going to put him in,lol might as well put Wayne Newton in there and Jim Nabors.barry manilow
You have Ringo Starr and i know even Rolf Harris would get more coverage then a drummer of a famous band. He is a good drummer but there is a hell lot better drummers at it.Eddie Vedder was listed and would get a big send of like Kurt Cobain even thou their music sucks these days.None of those guys are music legends. Not even close.
That doesn't mean they any good.It's not like the radio/TV will promote death metal or opera music to get millions records sold.MADONNA for example could never be established as a good singer ever.She fails as a artist as she lip sync live in concert,sure she can dance but unlike the other 4 she is useless really.
What was the definition of music pre-Madonna compared to post-Madonna?She has set Fasion trends and Yes has re-defined music!
