who are your favourite players?

Carlos Santana, Fausto Carmona, Shin Soo Choo and Asrubal Cabrera.

Jim Thome, Roberto and Sandy Alomar, Omar Vizquel, travis Fryman, Kenny Lofton and Manny Ramirez all arte as my favourite all time players. Its fairly clear im an Indians boy :D

Also love Brandon Phillips, Chase Utley, Adam Hill and Brian Roberts. Love a decent 2nd baseman.

Lived in Peoria for a couple years, back where Thome is from. He still has a big ranch home on a huge plot of land so he can go hunting on it. Met him at Target or Walmart buying shotgun shells one day. Nicest guy around. Big, BIG guy. He looks huge on TV, but up close in-person, he's even bigger.

I'm sure you've seen the Disco Choo bobblehead. That might be the greatest of all-time. hahaha

Jeter deserves the criticism he gets. The fact that he's won rings hasn't got to do with him, it's got to do with the fact that he's on a team that spends money bringing in players to win championships. He wins Gold Gloves on name value alone.

Don't believe me?

It's fact.

When they won 5 in the late 90s it was through home grown talent and the team guys rather then the big splashes on FA. it was only since the big splashes that the results started to decline

Oh I forgot to say that when I did the AT&T ball park tour in January, I made sure I got a Tim Lincecum bobble head. He is awesome.

How's this for some graffiti in the "Lygon St district" of San Francisco?

Really? Just looking at the '98 team- Jeter, Mo, Pettitte, Bernie, and Posada were all homegrowns, and those were the only ones to stick around for that run.

Rest of that lineup? Strawberry, Knoblauch, Tino, Brosius, Chad Curtis, and O'Neill were all bought. Staff? El Duque, Wells, Cone, and Irabu were all bought/traded for as well.

The Yanks minor league system has been bad for years, but it works for them.

Eh, guess I never have answered the initial "Who's your favorite players to watch?" question. Here are the current players I'd pay good money to see:

-Pujols
-Mauer
-Prince Fielder (all or nothing with him. Plus, he makes me look like an athlete!)
-Lincecum
-Liriano
-Josh Hamilton
-CarGo
-Heyward

I don't even think it's up for debate, but the stories behind the two best all-around sluggers (Pujols and Hamilton) are amazing. Saw Prince and Mauer play A ball in the Midwest League. Prince hit the longest homerun I've ever seen, and that's counting a juiced up McGwire. Total BOMB. Hit a building across the street (cleared the stadium, and the street), and the ball hadn't even started to come down yet.

I used to like Pedroia.

But his comments about his brother who is a convicted pedophile turned me off him completely. Fun guy to watch, total dumbass of a human being.

In other news.

Buster Posey is God

My sister is reading "A Band of MiSFits" and she sent me an email today. After finishing the Buster Posey chapter, she decided she has a new favorite player.

So I thought she might like to hear a story I learned about Posey this week.

But first, I have to tell you about Jack Bowman. He is an elderly gentleman who is a season-ticket holder and his seat is directly in front of me in the press box. Jack always wears the same sweatpants and pin-covered hat to every game. (I notice he’s traded in his Jason Schmidt jersey, though.) He sends me emails from time to time, in all capital letters, and he even brought me some cookies and quick breads last season. I like Jack a lot.

Jack walked up to the front of the press box the other day, excited to show me a photo of himself with Posey, and to tell me how he came to meet the Giants’ young catcher. He was at the "Play Ball" luncheon just before the season began and Posey, predictably, was being mobbed by fans. But when he saw Jack’s hat, he walked up to him and struck up a conversation.

"You must’ve been a fan for a long time," Posey said.

(It did not surprise me that Posey would reach out in this way. He respects elders. He likes kids, too. He’s also a stickler for good manners. All things to keep in mind if you hope to get his autograph some day.)

Anyway, I’m not sure how, but the talk turned to Jack’s service with the Marine Corps, and Posey’s face lit up. He asked a bunch of questions. Jack, in his gravelly voice, said he served in World War II and Korea.

"Wow. Wow," Posey said, giving him a firm handshake. "I want to thank you for your service."

Then Posey sought out a team photographer, and asked if Jack would take a picture with him. (Obviously, this is the opposite of how it usually works.) Then Posey made sure Jack would get the photo, and pledged to sign it once it arrived in the mail.

Jack brought the photo to the ballpark on Saturday and gave it to a PR official. Soon enough, he was showing Posey’s autograph to everyone in his section. It absolutely made his week.

Yep. Buster Posey is Jack’s favorite player now, too.

I understand that but all of those guys were harldy all stars prior to coming to NY. They were quality but you could hardly say they were absolute guns. They just played well as a team.
Im comparing to the likes of Clemons Randy Pavano Giambi Ventura Arod Tex Burnett CC Soriano Abreu etc.

It's pretty awesome. Baggs used to be pretty annoying, but since he developed a really snarky side in the last couple of years, he's become a pretty cool dude. It's a great read, especially if you are a Giants fan.

If you're thinking of getting it, use Amazon. They've got a deal going where you get a copy of the book, a DVD of the World Series and a DVD/Blu-Ray combo pack (Blu ray is region locked so you won't be able to watch that, but the DVD will work) on the Giants run. You can get all those 3 for $70, which is pretty decent.

Well, Soriano came up with the Yanks, but I think most people see him as a Cub anymore.

Before they were Yankees: Cone won the Cy Young with the Royals in '94 (and is more thought of as a Royal or Met than a Yankee). Strawberry was an 8-time All Star, finished in the top three of the MVP, and ROY with the Mets. Knoblauch was a 3-time All Star with the Twins. All of those guys were stars WAAAAAY before heading to the Yankees. Hell, Cone was one of the top SPs of the 1980's and early-to-mid 90's.

Pavano pitched in exactly 26 games over three years for the Yanks, and was an All-Star once. His best claim to fame is that he dated Alyssa Milano, not being a Yankee. :D

Talking about Raph Soriano, the new closer we signed.

I agree about Daryl and Cone, Chucks more a Yankee then any other.

Soriano is a super journeyman setup guy. Hard to say he's a Yanks star when he's only played two weeks and the Yanks have struggled a bit out of the gate. He killed for me on my fantasy team last year, so I'll always hold a piece of Rafael Soriano close to me. Won me some cash! haha

The only thing people remember Knoblauch for with the Yankees was his horrible fielding. He's remembered as a solid piece of the Twins in the early 90's. His rise coincided with the Twins rise, and he's easily more identified with the Twins. Just look at his B-R page, and when he left for the Yanks, the awards and accolades stopped.

Not all Yankee signings are remembered as Yankees. Of course, some don't want to be either (looking at you, Dave Winfield).
