Who do you think should be sub for the Prelim?

I could see the merit in having Masten as sub. Of course he's a prolific ball winner when he's playing at his best, but after so many weeks off they might make the tactical - and perhaps overconfident - move to get him some match fitness, and manage him heading towards the grand final.

Of course, they can also do it the inverse way, and just sub him off if we're in control and we want to make sure he doesn't overwork himself after so many weeks off.

So having said that... the sub is very tough. You'd probably default to Hutchings, except he had a great game last week and probably deserves to keep his spot. Ellis, despite being the teacher's pet, might have to wear the green this time.

Hutchy wont be the sub after his effort against the Hawks , I voted Ellis as he seems the logical choice .

Probably Ellis. Maten has been out a while but his strongest attribute is his endurance, much like Gaff. That would be wasted as the sub.

I was worried about the grunt we may have with Shuey or Gaff tagged.

But we have laser boot masto back in, restrict gaff and Shuey all you want, you still don't want Masto and Priddis getting 30+ disposals in the game.

If Masten isn't 100% he shouldn't be playing at all, and he's been too good this year, and vital to our gameplan, to be sitting on the bench for three quarters.

I say Ellis to sub. He is versatile enough to plug a variety of roles in the worse-case scenario of a forced sub.

Ellis plays his role in the side and I think we are a weaker side without him in it, being that extra defender. But i can definitely see him being sub.

In terms of our best 22 (or close) - he isn't far from the mark. With the exception of Selwood and Darling who have missed with injuries - and perhaps Ellis (fringe) who has played a better season? I'd argue Naitanui, Lecras and Hurn would be on par with previous years . Everyone else better

Why because they are similar players as mid size defenders but are reasonably versatile and both can fill other roles if need be

People often overstate his importance IMO. He's handy but not crucial. He's better at a role than McGinnity or Selwood but he'd be the last picked of the defenders.

I was surprised to see Watts' name at all to be honest, I thought he was done for the season. Maybe I'm overrating Ellis, from memory his best game was against Richmond a fair while ago. I remember him being pretty important in that game but Rosa has probably had the better form recently. Perhaps better suited to play on the bigger Norf mids also.

Rosa ~ In the end had him and X. Ellis jostling for the final 21 but leant towards the big game experience of Ellis from his time at Hawthorn.

Hutch and Sheed will be needed from the get go against North's inside ball winners e.g. Cunnginton, Swallow and Ziebell. Out of left field maybe but I'd send Hutchings to Ziebell in the midfield. Give Ziebell no room to move especially at stoppages.

I would have thought if you are looking for experience in big games, there's no way you would leave Ellis on the bench
