How do you all think we'll line up our rucks this year, and who do you think will get the first crack? Will we play two genuine ruckman, or continue to use Griff as backup? Who gets the number one role?

At this point in time I'm thinking with Hampson underdone we'll go into round one with Maric as the first ruck and Nank as the forward/ruck. Griff will stay forward.

Many scenarios.
I reckon we'd like to avoid using Griff as back-up to either Hampson or Nankervis, which leads me to think both will play, with young Toby going forward or starting on the bench.
They might only go with one, which means Griff would have to play second ruck and either C. Moore or Elton plays as you can't have just one tall forward operating.
The other is one ruck, Griff styas put down forward and taller mid-size forward in Lennon plays some key position.
Me thinks ultimately we'll play both Hampson and Nankervis, with Nakervis being more a forward.

I think my favorite player big Ivan Maric is finished unless we have catastrophic injuries. Hampson will start (I think), but I'd LOVE it if we actually started with big Toby Nankervis. I reckon he's gonna be the new Ivan. Griffith to continue as ever.

Actually Goldust is probably right and both Hampson and Nankervis will play with Griffith also

Reports on Nankervis are intriguing.
Spies in Queensland during the camp suggest he was manhandled, especially in rucking duels, by big Ivaaan.
Elsewhere he's burning on the training track and a competitive beast.
Backs the theory from, I think it was Mopsy, that he's largely an unproven talent still finding his way and it's the rucking side of things thta still needs plenty of work.

Everyone talking up nankervis.

we have a bloke who is 22 yo has played just 12 games in three yrs. In those 12 games he goes at 10 disposals a game, Has averaged just 1.7 marks a game, 0.5 contested.
kicked just 3 goals in his career cmon people atm he is hardly a fwd option. Why would we continue to go from a dinosaur ruck/fwd to another dinosaur ruck fwd? have we not learnt about playing too many slow talls.
To top it off as a ruckman he averages just 11 h/o a game no wonder he was surpassed by all and sundry at Sydney.
It is underwhelming and he needs development to even catch Hampson.

Would prefer we play Moore as a third tall failing that Chol as a third tall who could possibly pinch hit ruck.Depends on how much bulk he has put on.
Here we have a super athletic, agile, quick 199cm bloke with a great leap, who would make the ideal third tall/ruck option.

No more dinosaurs in these roles please!!!! we have Griffiths who aint exactly a stall gift winner and JR aint the quickest either. Add Nankervis to the mix and we reproduce the exact problems we had last yr and the yr before and the yr before.

IMO no matter who rucks there is only really Griffiths who can give em a break so playing a genuine third tall is a must.

Hammer has to be first choice. If he can continue with 2016 second half form he is a very good tap ruck and OK around the ground. Nothing amazing, but a good quality AFL ruck.

Nanks, not sure what to think. If he can't compete in the ruck, and is just a good around the ground player we go backward. If he can compete in the ruck and be a good around the ground player, and pinch hit forward then GREAT!! But I expect him to continue developing in 2017. Hopefully with some AFL games. Game plan could be to play him in tandem with Hammer. Or it could be to only have one ruck. I don't see Hammer as the sole ruck type, so I expect some combo of Hammer with Nankervis and/or Griff. If they play Nanks as second ruck and replacement for resting JR and Griff that works for me.

Griff is only a chop out ruck atm. I don't think he has the nasties enough to be a regular ruck. But a good quality back up.

Soldo. No idea but he is supposedly developing fine in 2016. If he can keep improving he might get a gig in 2017. I still reckon about 2019 if he makes it. His size and basketball background makes me suspect he could be a good tap ruck and player in contested situations.

Ivan, no idea. He was cooked last year. But might make a great come back!! I suspect this is his last year as a player and first as a coach. He could fast track Nankervis. If we use him either we are in crisis or he is smashing out a late career resurgence.

The AFL removing the 3rd ruck should help Hampson, and by extension the team.

He mightn't do much around the ground, but as a one out ruckman, he's fairly good, and this change will put more value on that.

Nank is there as backup and forward planning to take over in a few years.

Maric just got given another year as a backup and for his leadership around the club.

Griffiths is a forward who can provide a chop out as required. How much probably depends on if we go for 2 or 3 talls up forward (I'm hoping for 2).

If we go Dimma's "triangle of terror" again in our forward line of three talls, I am going to ****ing spew up. It hasn't worked for 3 years. The Dogs have shown the way. Just roll with Griff as the CHF/FF ruck back up and JR at FF/CHF with small blokes around them. I personally would like to see Nankervis get first crack at ruck in R1.

Again this myth is rolled out. The dogs do play tall they just dont play dinosaurs. Their talls are mostly in the 190 -195 range rather than the 196 -200 range.

More than likely the dogs will play
ff Stringer 192 - Redpath 194 - ####
HF #### - Boyd 200cm /Cloke 196 - Crameri 190cm.
At the least one of Redpath, Boyd or Cloke will play fwd likely Boyd will spend significant time in the ruck and rest fwd.

Im all for three talls but the right type of talls. It actually works for nearly every other side no reason why if done correctly it wont for us.

So Stringer, Redpath and Crameri are really midfield size these days. Macrae/Dickson and Smith are small/mid forwards. Fair enough you have added Cloke, but in reality, Boyd and Cloke are the two tall targets.
You actually strengthened my point.

Griffiths and Vickery just couldn't work well together. Whenever one was out, the other seemed to have a good game, but together...it was like them splitting the one position.

The worst part was last year when, in an attempt to let them have the room, etc to work together, Hardwick took out one genuinely star forward and had him play as a midfielder who rested forward.

Play Jack and Griff as talls, with Lloyd as '3rd/medium tall' (I know he's actually 'short', but he plays a lot taller than he is), Rioli at their feet, and the numbers just made up by rotations.
