Who had the worst round 1 loss?

I've just been handed the envelope
...and da winna is Sidaneee.

We didnt look fit enough.

6 months of pre-season? Not fit enough?

Sorry, that's simply wrong. The sides that have lost so far are the ones who didn't match their opposition for intensity. A HUGE variable in AFL football today that people continually dismiss. I simply don't understand why.

North - 9/10. Horrific loss when you look at the stats.
Collingwood - 7.5/10. Losing by 70 points at home probably means your not going to be competitive in september, still looks like same problems last year if not worse.
Sydney - 7/10. GWS should be competitive and there's a bad smell around the club, Hannebury looks disinterested.
Carlton - 7/10. Still have the peaheartness about them and no real leadership.
Richmond 5.5/10 - Depends on their expectation, I assume they want to go up from 5th so they shouldn't be losing to a 7th-12th team.
Adelaide - 4/10 - Expected loss, bit of a worry being overrun but played far too many kids.

I'd say Richmond, you can write the Pies and Swans off as having a bad day. They'll both improve out of sight. The Tigers however were comprehensively beaten by a side that will be challenging them for the 8 this year. Same with the Blues. In both instances neither showed any fight when the game was there to be won. Richmond's performance stank of mediocrity.

What a stupid post, if any other team loses it's a 'bad day' but if Richmond does it you sink the boot in.

I reckon round 1 always throws a few anomalies up as teams are always fresh and ready to go, younger players don't have the wear and tear of the season and faster tracks mean a team full of youngsters can over run a more hardened outfit.

No need to panic but i'd say the worst losses were Richmond to the Gold Coast and Sydney to GWS Both have set themselves to really be a contender and to come out and lose to an expansion team is deflating. I suspect thou they are more anomalies thou.

For mine Essendon and Freo look impressive thou and conversely are the big winners.

Sydney - Can be labelled as a one-off poor performance.
Richmond - Not great, but Gold Coast on the Gold Coast is hard.
Carlton - Not great.
Collingwood - Were poor, but played a really good team
North Melbourne - Poor.
Adelaide - Played well (apart from the last quarter). Good signs

Worst to best losses so far: North, Carlton, Collingwood, Richmond, Sydney, Adelaide

Looking forward to this match, players I am interested particularly in are:
- Morabito, pretty obvious why
- Apeness, first time I will see him play
- Simpson, whether he plays like he did against Perth or like he did in the intraclub

There was a segment on 360 the other day, looking at the round one results of the last few years in relation to final ladder position and season quality. there was a surprisingly strong correlation between round one results and season quality. Not the be all and end all, but certainly can be an indicator of things to come.

Just for a laugh, Brad Johnson kicked 8 in Round 1 2007 in a comfortable win against Geelong at Docklands (roof open)

Yep I expect East Perth will have the worst round 1 loss too, but I'm guessing you posted this in the wrong thread :) :rainbow:

North because of the amount of hype coming from their camp. I thought it would be a close game yesterday but it was an absolute mauling in every aspect except the scoreline.

North for mine, the way we played was like 2010 North.
Not good enough from a team that was supposed to come out and make a statement.

Doggies next week, need to win and have a complete 4qtr performance to make amends.

The hype wasn't coming from their camp, it was mostly coming from outsiders. Most north people have been pretty realistic regarding where their team will finish.

I think North unfortunately, never put up a yelp, from the start showed nothing really.

Closely followed by Richmond, against the suns should have won

Collingwood started well, but over run.

Carlton led every quarter and where over run in the last.

Swans loked lethargic, showed the Giants no respect.

But folks its only numero uno.

It's because all the other sides have shown they can win against mediocre sides, for a team that has top 4 aspirations to continually fail against the GCFC in the way you do is simply inexcusable.

Whilst I'm aware Collingwood had a couple out, I wouldn't call their performance pathetic- I just think we're a much better team right now and didn't give them a chance. Most expected us to win so how on Earth could that result come close to being the worst with the efforts from all these hyped up teams in Carlton, Richmond, North and worst of all, Sydney??!! Flag fancies fall to the new kids on the block, has everyone questioning absolutely everything about the club, absolute shocker!

Definitely North. Expecting good things from them this year and they can still deliver, it's only one game but they were so disappointing. In the cold light of day perhaps like Carlton, they're just not very good. Have I overrated them.
