Who has the best young talent in the league

I'm not quoting your post because it would take up half the page.

On your comments:

That's the difference, Davey and Jurrah are not stop-gap players, they are genuine guns at AFL level.

The types you have selected in the past are just decent players who will prevent you from bottoming out - players like Grima, Edwards and Thompson are those to whom I am referring.

Good, but not great.

Davey and Jurrah are great, and Lew Jetta could be as well, I don't think your mature-age recruits are. Having said that, Anthony is the pick of them, and a very capable midfield player.

How are Grima and Thompson stop gap?

They are two of the most promising young defenders in the game.

I agree with Edwards however, but he wont play that many games this coming season anyway.

They have the potential to be top AFL backman, and look like playing 150+ games for the club?

Thompson came second in the B&F.......

The BigFooty consensus is 23 and under.

Still, that's a very drool-worthy list.

Melbourne for me, some good pick ups this draft. They will be a force to be reckoned with soon, they could end up as high as 10 in 2010 and then start climbing up the ladder.

Youth should be 21 or under. Most 23 year olds are in the second half of their career.

Hawks fans will continue to ensure these threads include Roughhead and Franklin.

Next year it will be 24 and under.

Looking at Damon's stats it's not a good time to be a Freo supporter...

Also loving the MFC under 21's Warlpiri Wizard. Would love to see an under 21's prac'y match between Melb and WCE

Clearly considering where we are positioned on the ladder.

The stats he provided to paint part of the picture for each club, but not completely. What the stats don't show is who the players are in each bracket, what position they play, where they are rated in terms of top 22 etc.

In saying this I am happy with our young players, whilst we have a few areas to address with regards to young talent i.e. key position players, it is not as bleak as you are suggesting.

21 and under team

B: Sheppard, McKenzie, J. Jones
HB: Schofield, Brown, Smith
C: Ebert, Swift, Houlihan
HF: Weedon, Emery, Notte
FF: Stevens, Wilson, S. Selwood
RR: Naitanui, Masten, Shuey
INT: Sullivan, McGinnity, Cockie, Stevenson

Make it 22 and under so I can add Hurn, Kennedy, Spangher, McKinley and Dalziell.

21 and under (as of today) team for Melbourne:

B: Cheney Frawley Bennell
HB: Grimes (c) Garland Strauss
C: Morton Scully Blease
HF: Petterd Watts Tapscott
F: Wonaeamirri Jurrah Maric
Foll: Gawn Jones (vc) Trengove
Int: Spencer Jetta Gysberts Bartram

Emg: McNamara, McKenzie, Fitzpatrick

That's the team I'd field if playing a hypothetical game. I must say, it's a very exciting list and is already going to be playing a large role for us.

Also I'd rather not have it 22 and under because we only have two 22 year olds :p (Bate and Dunn).

Oh yeah. He has to be added to our rookie list this year or we lose him, right?

Yep.

This is what swannies had to say about the three:

swannies said:
Keiran Emery, 195cm KPF, kicked a few goals, 8/9 I think, in the U18 carnival. 18yo, must be put on our rookie list this year if we want to retain, I believe.

Alexander Sneddon, 205?cm ruckman, plays for Uni, I think, in AFL NSW. Also 18 and needs to be put on our rookie list if we are to retain, IIRC.

Jake King, HBF with good kicking and decision making skills, from earlier reports on him. Was signed as a 16yo last year, so only 17 this year, therefore we should be able to retain him as a NSW scholarship holder.

I reckon the Bomber's 21 and under team would go alright:

B. Daniher Pears M.Quinn

HB. Hocking Hooker Carlisle

C. Zaharakis Houli Collyer

HF. Reimers Gumbleton Ryder

F. Neagle Hurley Jetta

R. T.Bellchambers Melksham Myers

Int: C.Bock, T.Slattery, M.Still, A.Long.

A solid team, certainly good KPP prospects, mids could be better.

The Dockers 21 and under team sadly looks a bit weak in the KPP:

B. Pearce Shepheard O'Brien
HB. Crichton Roberton Ibbotson
C. Hill Suban Morabito
HF. Bucovaz Houghton Mayne
F. Hall Sibosado Fyfe
R. Clarke Palmer DeBoer
I. Van Berlo Hinkley Ruffles

21 and under (as of today) team for Melbourne:

B: Cheney Frawley Bennell
HB: Grimes (c) Garland Strauss
C: Morton Scully Blease
HF: Petterd Watts Tapscott
F: Wonaeamirri Jurrah Maric
Foll: Gawn Jones (vc) Trengove
Int: Spencer Jetta Gysberts Bartram

Emg: McNamara, McKenzie, Fitzpatrick

That is an incredible line-up, I will be shocked if we aren't challenging in a few years time.

The Saints have had the most talented list for around 5 years. Hasn't got them far.

How talented is Max Rooke? There are a lot of intangibles that go into building a team that can sustain success.

What I will say though, many teams are rebuilding really well atm which I think is going to lead to a very competitive AFL over the next decade.
