Well, I certainly hope you're right Black Thunder (I've only seen Adkins play the one pre-season game). Admittedly we're only 4 rounds in, but Williams' form in the black-and-white has me wondering. He may yet join Clape, Laidley, Connell and West Coast icon Tim Watson as Eagle 'discards' to play in a premiership with another side.

Mind you, for every Matt Clape, there's been at least one David Hynes.

Ignoring the gratuitous Watson reference, this list says more about the strength of the Eagles in the early-mid 90s. None of these players were bad at the Eagles, its just they couldn't force their way into the side. Similarly Jarrad Schofield a bit later although hindsight says he would have been worth keeping at the time.

Sure it would be nice to have Williams back in the form he is showing this year, but chances are his form is more related to fitting into the Collingwood style of play rather than anything else - if he'd stayed here he may have still been ordinary.

As for Adkins, we seem to be trying to develop a very deep midfield that can lose a couple of players and still take it up to other teams. I'm sure he'll get his chance. Anyway, any trade is a gamble - its a little too early to say we lost on that one.

Yeah, it's still too early. Remember when people were concerned that we'd hired the wrong Jakovich brother?

No.. actually, I don't.
But it sounds like it would have been a very entertaining period of time :D

I'm not sure Wilson is ready for a recall just yet - his form in the WAFL was OK two weeks ago, but last week he was apparently dropping marks left right and center. Callum Chambers similarly doesn't seem to have the form to warrant a comeback.

I also think bringing Paul Johnson in this week would be a dangerous move - I'd rather see him play a couple more at Swans and come in next time we have a home game. Ease him in - a derby first up might be a little hard to take.

Phil Read would seem to be the best player to bring back into the team, as he has shown a bit at WAFL level so far, and if Collica is available he might be worth the risk despite the time he has missed.

I think Brauny's last quarter last week might save his spot for another week.

I don't remember that exactly - but I do remember people questioning why we had drafted Peter Matera when Ben Allan was available in the same draft!

I don't remember the talk about the Jako brothers, Glen was always the pick of the crop. Those who knew or played with Allan thought he was a flashy player but required a good team around him to be consistent.

Comparing Peter Matera and Ben Allan is a fair comparision, but you make out that Ben was a dud?. Fairest and best in a premiership year at Hawthorn is a good show of his ability, it's just that his knees gave out.

Around that draft time a dud pick would have been Shane Stremple (all promise, no production).

I am hoping Wilson is cut from the 25 man squad. Woosha is playing mind games.

Which 4 out of the 7 on the bench (Humm, Green, Wilson, Read, Braun, Sampi, Wooden) do you think will make it into the team?

I'm puzzled about Adkins. He's a midfielder that isn't getting a game. Yet we traded a decent half forward for him. And we could do more with an extra half forward on the list than another midfielder. I was hoping he would be a regular. Was it a poor trade? Thoughts?

I've been wondering about the same issue, Frodo. I saw Adkins only on one game in the preseason and he did ok.

I've seen Williams playing for the magpies a few times and I believe he played quite well. As someone in the thread said before, this could be because he may be a better fit for Collingwood than for us. I always liked him, although I thought he was a bit inconsistent.

I suppose only time will tell, but I trust Woosha knew what he was doing at trade time last year.

Yeah, I thought Glass was good. I am happy he had been dropped and extremely happy Willo isn't in the side. Our forwards might be over-rated but I'm confident whoever gets Carroll will beat him.

I'm not saying he was a dud, as you point out it was a comparison with Peter Matera.

Glass out, Carrol still in?????????????

Not sure about that one. I thought Glass did ok last week.

Glass must have had a shocking week at training and Carroll must have bought Whoosha a new car or something for these events to transpire??

Carroll had hardly any game time and only 2 disposals last week?? The only reason I can think that Carroll has remained in the team is that he tore up the training track all week and Whoosha has a particular matchup he likes that he believes Carroll can be effective in.

In Whoosha I trust.
