Who takes Brown?

What about Roughys big mits down back to bring in Boiler to fit with Buddy and willo and Cyriol?

I love the way Roughy is developing, but I reckon it would it do him a world of good to play on a premier forward now & then, just for experience.

Goodwin and burton who have been on fire didn't pose a threat today coz we completely shut them down in the corridor, wont be much different this week
The difference is neither Goodwin nor Burton are really talls so they couldn't just bomb it long to them. They're the sort of players any of Gilham, Murphy, Brown or even Birchall can cover. Meanwhile both Tippet, when he was briefly forward, and McGregor took contested marks inside 50. Luckily their kicking let them down.

I think this game is more comparable to Freo with Pav and McPharlin. McPharlin cut us up when he went forward, he was too big and fast for anyone we had. Luckily we smashed them in the midfield. But will we have that sort of midfield dominance against Brisbane? I'm hoping if we stick a tag on Black we will.

His namesake would be a good bet however if Croad returns maybe hes a chance. He plays Brown well i dont know where he is at but will take him if he lines up. Murphy certain to take Bradshaw

No disrespect to Cambell Brown i know he is an absolute ledge. However, playing him on Jonathan Brown - i think this is a wee bit silly... Sure he has shut down the likes of Lucas etc. but Browny is just a class above the rest... I'd be confident Brown would kick 6 on him.

Re: Who plays on J Brown

We need to stop Black. His supply is too good.

It really is a question of killing the supply - Brown will be too good in one on one contests.

Exactly. Black is who can kill us - Brown is just the weapon he will use. I reckon we set Crawf the task of taking Black down. I still think he plays best when given a job to do like that.

I'm not too worried about who is going to take Brown. I think it's quite telling that we have the lowest number of Opposition Inside 50s in the comp (169, next best are Sydney 179, Adleaide and North 196). Our midfield are just dominating, even if we aren't doing so well in clearences. We haven't even seen our best midfield in action yet, with Mitchel and Lewis to come in this week, I think that's where we'll win it.

Black is good, sure, and if we let him deliver it to J. Brown too much, they could kick a score, but then, we have Buddy, Roughy, and Williams. They don't have the defenders to keep our forwards down either. So it's going to be decided in the midfield - and ours is just better. We have massive depth, if they can shut down one or two guys, there'll be 3 or 4 more killing them.

They'll probably kick a decent score, but we'll kick a massive one. We're yet to conceede 100 points, and although that may change, I think we should have a good win.

Oh, and hi, this is my first post :)

Go Hawks!

Hey mate.

Holding Brown is a concern, but I think if we focus on winning centre clearances and contested possessions Brown won't be a telling factor.

If we do the necessary things and play our own brand of footy the rest will take care of itself.. it will be a good match!

If Croad is back it solves a few problems - even if not completely match fit he can take him close to goal and someone else up the field.

I think a few people have hit the nail on the head - we need to stop the midfield and we will win. I think a hard tag on Black and Johnstone/Power is required.

FWIW if Croads back;

Croad - Brown
Gilham - Bradshaw
Sewell - Black
Clarke - Johnstone

I think we should also play Murphy or Brown as a loose man in defence to help cover the two big forwards.

I think Murphy and Brown are too valuable as defenders to play as a loose man in defence. Guerra is the better option & is much more groomed for that role, as we saw against Adelaide.
