when the club said they were willing to pay part of his lucrative contract.... i knew they weren't bluffing

when you say you're pretty much willing to pay other clubs to take him.... the bluff seems highly unlikely

I thought it was a bluff, or that Carlton would have demanded at least two first round draft picks and a really good player in return. But some of the rumours that were surfacing were pretty horrendous. Carlton knows just how badly Fev has screwed up this time.

He had a big Brownlow night from the reports!!!

Yep thought they were bluffing initially, good on them for taking a moral stance. Best thing is that they have just cost themselves a chance of a flag in the next 3 or so years, and unfortunately they have boosted Brisbanes.

pre-trade week: bluff
monday-tuesday: can't believe the media has bought this story and run with it
wednesday: ok maybe they're going to trade him
thursday: bradshaw and rischitelli toured visy park? ok then it's definitely on
friday: no surprise whatsoever

^ This. I just don't trust anything Carlton say.

The question now is what did he actually do at the brownlow? Does anyone else wonder why Ch9 didn't release the full footage? They could easily bleep out ant swearing or pixelate anything too rude. I thought perhaps Eddie may have been using it as a bargaining chip with Fev but now I just can't see why he is being protected & the Carlton fans left wondering what he actually did to deserve being traded.

I thought they may have been bluffing initially but once I got a couple of PMs on other forums my eyes boggled and I knew they were dead serious. I couldn't see then how he could play with his teammates after that. It was untennable.

Good reason why he'd miss parades and especially his B & F. No way someone like Fev would miss those otherwise.

Check my post history

"I told you so" :p

One of the craziest football conspiracy theories I have heard, yet 70% of BF was convinced. I think some Carlton fans needed a few days to believe he was finished and so they read way to much into the public statements that started all this (ie, "look to trade" = "we really want to keep him"). Not sure why the rest of you had problems accepting what Fev and the club were telling you.

At least the bluff theories died down mostly once it was obvious Carlton were working the trade yet still even today someone started another "it's a hoax" thread

I thought they would have kept him unless they got a ridiculous offer, wasn't expecting him to go for what he did.

I was sure they were just trying to look like they were 'doing the right thing', only to not really try to do a proper trade. Very surprised they did what they did.

They've built their entire style around getting gun mids to kick the ball to Fev. This will be a huge test of Ratten as a coach trying to work out a good plan B.

Absolutely, I was wrong. I thought it was a bluff.
Carlton have proven to be underhanded before.

Also at the point I thought it was a bluff, the extent of Fev's (alleged) behaviour at the brownlow was not common knowledge.

Anyway, they will look back and be thankful they did it.

I can sees Voss's plan turning into a nightmare in a couple of years.
They'll be top 4 you would think, but if they don't win a flag they will have a massive rebuild in 3- 4 years.

as opposed to being a middle-of-the-road side this year with some kids but not enough to bring through as a group? voss has made a gutsy leap and the more you look at the compromised drafts, brisbane's player ages and who their current 21-and-unders are, it makes sense.

if they hadn't taken this recruiting strategy they would have been a mediocre team, "making finals" without being within a bull's roar of the premiership, before that 3-4 year nightmare anyway.

Yes I thought they were joking, I mean what other club would threaten to trade a player just for being drunk?

But they held an important card close to their chest - sexual assault. Had we known of this our opinion may well have been different!

I thought they were bluffing. I thought for certain Fev would stay at the Blues...

Well done on them getting rid of him though. They get just that little bit of respect back.

Do they?

Carlton and their pussy footing around with him for 10 years made Fev into what he became, only when they had no other choice did they pull the ejection lever.

The club Captain in Judd sitting next to Fev in the high rollers room at 2pm losing thousands and drinking with him prior to the Brownlow function! Gee, well done their Juddy, in hindsight a call to the club to get a minder on Fev ASAP would have been a good move you would have thought. Its not like Judd and the club didn't know Fev couldn't handle his alcohol.

Just remember the Blues didn't suspend and then sack Fevola ala Cousins, they slapped him on the wrist and in the end sold the problem to Brisbane for basically two first round picks.

Well done trading dept but the rest of Carltons efforts were pretty pathetic and in the end they served themselves first and sold out on their employee.

I thought it was bluff too, with all of the evidence in front of you it would have been obvious to all and sundry that taking him was a massive risk.

Do Brisbane have a case for non-disclosure? ;)

Guilty.

Carlton have never had ethics or morals, didn't think they'd start now.

Was suprised but more amused than anything. This has set them back another 3-4 years by which time Judd will nearly be finished, funny how quickly a "window" can be slammed shut.

A good day for football.

Thought it was a "heat of the moment" punishment, and bad luck for Fev that Trade week so close.

But, as more stories come out, he could've done that in April and would be on the outer all year, not to return.
