Bonner didn’t really have a spot going forward.

Allison was a speculative pick that didn’t work out.

Both probably deserve to be delisted but I for one will not take any pleasure in their demise.

Thank you to Riley and Matt, and to Tom and James. And to those players that may soon join them on the outer.

I wish them all the best and wish the club all the best in finding their replacements.

Still…
Bonner played 19 games!!!

Does not compute!
‘Will Robinson, does not compute’

Edit: actually, I guess there was a threshold he reached, a misstep one too many. Of course there was a reason.

We forget he was a covid draftee with his senior year a full gap already, tall developing type, significant injuries (only played 60% of possible games). You could make an argument he needed his first year on stk list to make up for U18 year then he had a 1.5 seasons worth of injuries all together, meaning he's probably only been up and going for 1.5 seasons.

Despite my early bewilderment he was on the list at all until recently, I'm ready to turn on a dime provided he finishes strongly.

1 more year will not destroy the list

Blaming Covid is like blaming Umpires for a loss.
The draft quality was compromised, but :
Sam Berry
Shannon Neale
Charlie Lazzaro
Harry Sharp
Beau McCreery.

Jayden Attard played 20 games in 2007. Did an ACL and dumped.
Cameron Shenton 13 games in 2014, 10 in 2015, and dumped.

So here's our top prospects and current status - bold are gone:

80+: Allison
70+: Crouch, Ross
60+: Hayes, Paton
50+: Battle
40+:
30+: Campbell, Bonner, Hotton
20+: Jones
10+: Membrey, Van Es, Cordy, Collard, O'Connell
1+: Hall, Heath, Howard, Steele, Keeler, Webster, McLennan, Stocker

Based on our guesswork, looks like there could easily be 4-5 more spaces freed up.

That's probably more than enough if its just the draft/rookie elevation.
But you'd think they have someone in mind for the ruck , ( unless they are shuffling Campbell to the Rookie list ).
I guess any others will depend on who we are picking up.
Then there's Crouch, i have no idea how bad his injury is.

Neale the only comparable type to Allison in your list and he does look great but only emerged late last year in keeping with my previous summation.

Anyway, he’s gone and I’m okay with that. I’d have given him a rookie deal but powers that be obviously have other plans.

Not sure why we haven't delisted Paton yet. He was good, before his broken leg.
Hayes & Membrey, we just seem to be waiting on offer's.
Hotton, I'd give him another 1 year contract, especially if we have interest in his brother.

So, Membrey officially delisted today.
Leaves Hayes, Hotton & Paton un-signed.
Can't see why we would retain Paton, not the same, since the broken leg.
Can see why we would re-sign Hayes for KP depth, unless we have replacements in mind?
Hotton is only 20 y.o, maybe worth 1 more year? Not a big issue either way.

I assume we'll retain him. Don't really have any ruck depth outside of him so hopefully he can stay fit.
No way we could define Hayes as first ruck depth. He's an injury prone fwd who can give a chop out in the ruck for a few minutes a qtr.

You'd hope they've got something else planned given we got rid of our actual first ruck depth in Tom Campbell and only gave Heath a one year contract.

He's still better than nothing. That being said I don't expect that we'll go into next season without picking up another genuine ruck at some point.

Why did you guys delist Membrey? Sure he was thirty, but he was your second leading goal scorer...Who is slated to fill that spot next season?

Sharman was excellent in the back half of the season. Owens has shown a lot, fell off this year but he should be able to bounce back next year. Other than that we don't have any other medium forwards (unless I'm forgetting someone).

FWIW I think we should've kept him.

In my opinion, we wanted a second/third tall forward who could also play in the ruck, like Caminiti. Membrey too small for it, and it's stunted Owens' development making him do it.

Forward line will be something like: King, Caminiti, Sharman, Owens, Higgins, Butler.

Yeah you can argue that Membrey is better than Sharman, but i guess it was a question of who has a lot of years left playing footy.
I think we'll probably keep Hayes now that Membrey is gone ( cue the Hayes delisting news ), and then there's Owens who i still think could be a mid.

Just looking at the Saints page.
Keeler , listed as a Key Defender.
Henry listed as a forward.

King, Sharman, Owens and Caminiti.

Membrey an excellent servant but was time to put our full focus on this young group of forwards instead of someone with 1 year left.

So looks like:
  1. Matthew Allison (del)
  2. Josh Battle (FA)
  3. Riley Bonner (del)
  4. Tom Campbell (FA)
  5. Jack Hayes (del)
  6. Olli Hotton (del)
  7. Tim Membrey (del)
  8. Ben Paton (del)
  9. Seb Ross (del)
  10. James Van Es (del)

Only question mark left is Crouch

Our predictions - those in bold are gone:

80+: Allison
70+: Crouch, Ross
60+: Hayes, Paton
50+: Battle
40+:
30+: Campbell, Bonner, Hotton
20+: Jones
10+: Membrey, Van Es, Cordy, Collard, O'Connell
1+: Hall, Heath, Howard, Steele, Keeler, Webster, McLennan, Stocker

Pretty accurate work from the hivemind imo. Crouch presumably still could go if his knee doesn't make it through pre-season, and Jones did enough in the last few games to stay around.
