Who will be our surprise packet next year?

Tuck I think will play, but I don't think that is a surprise. He would have been playing for a while had he not had some bad luck with injuries at the wrong time.

I'm really interested to see how Whitecross performs in the NAB cup, and I agree he could surprise a few.

Muston is my man from left field who I think will surprise a few. He's a freak, and I'm not writing him off yet.

Spot on ! Really think he will cement his position in the team.
He will be the one.

Can he still be a 'Rising Star' ?

Needs a bit of luck, but has all the qualities of a very good footballer.

Morton/Tuck....both have really impressed me with the limited game time they have had. 1 of the 2 will take Crawfs spot unless Ellis takes a perminant mid position.:thumbsu:

I really think it will be either Tuck or Whitecross.

What do you guys think?

Tucky for me, love his attack on the footy, this kid is as tough as anyone and takes a lot of pressure off blokes like Mitchell to be at the bottom of the pack. Dermie predicted the kid is likely to win a hawks b&f in his career something his dad never achieved...big wraps.

Dowler is a biq question mark for me, dont know where he fits.

Must do year for Muston, any more knee problems = end of career. Same goes for the Big Max.

Thorp could start to emerge too.

completely agree with tuck.
if people who think he'll surprise next year, actually watched him at the beginning of the year, they'd appreciate that he'll be an automatic selection from round 1 next year. he's contribution at the beginning of this year when we got on the eight or so wins in a row he was significant. he'll give us real grunt next year which we lack when hodge isn't helping sewell and mitchell in the packs.

my surprise will be either mcglynn or renouf.

mcglynn can seriously play, and he's suspension and injury curtailed his whole season and people have forgotten about him.

renouf surprised the hell out of me this year, and for a 20 year old i reckon he's got a great deal of improvement left in him. could be one of the best ruckmen in the comp next year.:thumbsu:

Morton will roam up and down the wing like Youngy does getting kicks at will. (Hopefully they find a target).

McGlynn will fill Crawfs spot.

Thorp will be CHB.

More game time for a fit Dew.

to be honest, i'd be really surprised if dowler makes improvement next year to warrant regular selection.

i want that improvement as much as anyone, but he's got a long way to go.

but then, i suppose that fits the category of a surprise, probably of the highest order!

I'll nominate Josh Kennedy. He's now 20, had two years on the list, he's had a couple of games in the seniors & I can see him developing into a Brad Sewell type player. Yes, he has to work on his pace but you can't doubt the pedigree & the influence of the players around him who may not have been blessed with enormous natural talent but have the desire to succeed.

Very hard to say who will be the surprise packet of 2009.... if in fact there is one.

Injuries to incumbents, as well as those striving to make the grade will have a big say on who gets an opportunity.

Circumstances and opportunities have as much to do with it as blistering form for BHH.

e.g. A full forward kicking bags of goals for BHH each week is not going to replace Buddy. On the other hand a key back playing well at BHH would be more likely to be given a chance due to our lack of key backs.

I can't see anyone 'doing a Junior' and stepping in and playing the entire season. There were three key reasons Junior was able to do this (1) his ability, (2) that he remained free of serious injury, and importantly, (3) it was a role where there was a vacancy thereby giving him the opportunity.

As much as I would love to see Muston, Bailey, Thorpe or Dowler come through in 2009 I fear injuries may have a say.

I expect Tuck to be given more opportunities in 2009.

I guess the key thing is with the 2008 premiership team remaining virtually intact, and if you believe the papers, all ready for round one, who is going
to be dropped to enable someone to step up.

Sure there will be injuries, loss of form, and I suspect the odd suspension during the season so opportunities will arise, however they may turn out to be few and far between.

It isn't going to be like previous seasons where the make up of the side changed frequently. We now have a settled line up which I believe will only be 'fine tuned' or changed as needed during 2009.

For what it is worth, my surprise packet for 2009, if there is going to be one, is Morton.
