Who's your worst coach since 1990?

Royce Hart coached???? .

Yeah, classic example of a great player and leader, intelligent, who understands the game, and would seem to have been a natural at it, but couldn't coach....People forget though and thus Voss is likely to get the number 1 job without any experience as a coach...( which isn't to say he wont be great at it, just that it's a decent sized risk ).

For Richmond, Frawley is the obvious choice, he certainly did the most damage, but that was due to the time we kept him for, so the blame is shared...

Purely on the timeframe he had and the butchery he did in that time, my vote goes to Robert Walls. Appointing a coach who hates the club and trusting his professionalism to win out didn't work.

Wayne Schimmelbush (1990-1992) 66 games 31 wins 35 losses for 46.97%. Not that bad by the statistics but after a huge loss to Adelaide in the pre season of 1993 he got the spear and Denis Pagan proceeded to take the same list to a preliminary final & continued to do so for the next eight seasons.

Under Schimmelbush we went from 6th in 1990 to 8th in 1991 to 12th in 1992 & finally to the pre season debacle of 1993.

In Blight's defence, he was trying to change the "culture" of the Club... unfortunately the board at the time didn't want to hear it.

True, but the fact that they had to nag him to take the job in the first place should have been a warning sign.

Mark Williams will go down as one of our greatest coaches ever no matter who we will have in the future.

And he's our worst coach since 1990. Funny about that, really. Jack's premiership machine of the early to middle 90s puts him above Mark.

We've only had 5 coaches since 1950 though.

Ross Lyon might be on the list if he doesn't turn things around quickly.

However, hard to go past Judge at two clubs.

Tony Shaw pretty ordinary as well, but not that much to work with.

Despise you b@stards but respect the culture of your club. If I had to recruit for a coach one of the first I would target would be Williams. Hard as nails and has a record of success but more importantly, has that in bred winning culture of the Port Adelaide football club.

Peter Rohde wins hands down. Turned a half decent football team into an absolute rabble in the 2 years he was there. Completely unqualified and clearly incapable of doing the job.

Geelong - Gary Ayres without doubt. A negative loner who alienated so may players. He inherited a good list and did buggar all with it.

The man was an imbecile....i will never forget the day he played Buddha in his prime out of a fwd pocket for the entire first half and we were getting smashed in the midfield.....he had no idea at all

Bit out with your time line. Didn't Bourke get Richmond to the 82 Grand Final before he was sacked for missing finals in 83. Royce Hart coached???? (dont think he understood the term) Footscray in early 80's and he had such an understanding of talent that he sacked Brian Wilson who promptly won a Brownlow.

Wilson was sacked because he was in Stuart Dew-like condition and couldn't beat the cutoff in a time trial.

Bourke inherited an outstanding list and lost a GF in his first season (as heavy favourite). One of his theories was that Bartlett, at 36, couldn't run out a full game so he was played off the bench in his final season (and still kicked 36 goals). The players revolted against him during his second year, so Bourke resigned ahead of the sack.

Bartlett turned over a lot of players in rebuilding the list, and blooded Knights, Campbell, Lambert, Gale, Naish, Turner and Maxfield. Wasn't the answer though IMO, regardless of his indignance at being sacked.

I second the Frawley nomination - lost 31 of his final 36 matches; while importing Brown, Johnson, Cameron and Stafford from other clubs, he really only had Coughlan, Newman, Tuck and Pettifer to show for his 'rebuilding' efforts, with Tuck and Pettifer on the borderline when Wallace took over.
