Why is Bryce Gibbs tagging?

Going by your logic then Collingwood should think about playing Cloke in a tagging role in their next game then. Its a ridiculous logic for a player who is skilled and attacking to be played into form by tagging players

Only ridiculous to someone who knows little about it. I've seen plenty of instances of players who are giving tagging roles and run back into form.

Because without a set role he tends to drift in and out of the game. Carlton supporters blame Ratts but the reality is that Gibbs doesn't work hard enough to impact the game from midfield. Unless he pulls his finger out and decides to truly push himself he'll never be more than what he is.

Then drop him, giving him these easier roles because he wont go 100% just enables that behaviour.

Put him in the midfield give him a kick up the ass and say either be the player you can be or play in the 2s.

Gibbs never really succeeded on the ball but played that behind the play lose half back role quite well. He is copping a defensive forward a lot this year and it's stifiling his impact so to get him into games he is being put onto the better players so they take him to the ball. He's similar to Goddard in that sence.

Until they start playing him in the guts (midfield / follower) then he will never be considered a gun player. Forget collecting a cheap 30+ possessions in the half-back line, tagging or playing him up forward, he NEEDS to get some toughness and really get in the action. I can't speak for Carlton fans, but I would definitely consider him a better player if he could do that.

Hardwick and Deledio did a presser a little whole back after a game, basically Hardwick said that he was reluctant to throw Deledio into the midfield due to him not being as good at the hardball as let's say someone like Tuck or Cotchin, Hardwick made Deledio work all over summer on his contested ball work, and is the only reason he is now playing midfield because he can now win his own ball.

I see that as the same reason as to why Gibbs isn't played as a true midfielder, his inability to win his own ball in a contested situation and softness around the packs.
