Why is there no www.aflw.com.au (or equivalent)?

I'd like a dedicated site for the AFLW. Same as the AFL. Is there a reason why it's umbrella-ed under the AFL site?

They have a url that can get you to it directly: womens.afl
Once in, I don't really notice that it's technically inside the AFL site. Not sure what the technical reason is for having it there though.

Its because the website is run by the AFL organisation, not AFL, the mens footy league. So, the organisations website is AFL.com.au
That website is divided into 3 tabs. One for the mens league, one for the womens league, and one for community footy.

Theoretically, they could make each tab its own seperate website, which would cost more to run, and would change absolutely nothing beyond the IP address, and the fact that it would be harder to flip between them.

I am not sure what purpose that would serve? I suspect most peeople wouldnt notice a difference, except for the inconvenience if they regularly visited both leagues pages?
