Yeah they use to be rep teams from each league then became state of origin. Aussie rules never had two evenly matched rivals like the NRL has

The Aussie Rules Carnivals were the showcase event where all Leagues were present.
Certainly agree having two teams only makes Origin the contest it is today & the big dollar bonanza for the AFL.

And if making the All Aus squad via representing your state saw you play at a World Cup or play test footy state carnivals would still be a massive event

Vic Country v Vic Metro would be a flop. It’s not under 18s

Having more teams doesn’t make it better the beauty of Origin is it’s two sides every year

Ultimately for players in the NRL representing their state means more than winning the comp. It’s not the same in the AFL never will be.

Seeing NSW and Queensland get flogged each year will not be good for the game. Origin has helped RL grow in the rest of Aus while those sides having no participation

Country v metro would pretty much be an all star game, the best of the best and vic country would love to knock off the Vic metro boys.

Why would you have 2 teams when you could showcase every state and the strength of Australian football across the country? The NRL only has two states coz the sport is legit barely even played in the rest of the country, it's a weakness not a strength.

It doesn't need to mean more than winning the comp to be successful.

Why would nsw and qld get flogged every year when they are playing against one another? They are pretty evenly matched. You know statistical analysis a few years ago showed a state team from nsw and qld would be stronger than the current AFL premiership team? I actually think NSW could beat S.A these days too.

*Also on the point it doesn't flow onto an Australian side, leagiues are always whinging origin doesn't flow onto the national team anyway. Plus the r.l world cup is pretty much irrelevant, they have to pull half the teams players from Polynesian expats born and raised in western sydney.

It does have to mean more otherwise the best players at the best clubs won’t play so they don’t risk getting injured and not being able to win a flag

I'd make the carnival every second year so it doesn't become a chore for the best players. Also the fixture to be flexible, so year one metro v country, s.a v w.a, the next time metro v w.a at Optus, s.a v country at Adelaide oval etc.

Thursday night (s.a v w.a)
Friday night (qld v nsw)
Saturday afternoon (n.t v tas) (if you want 4 games)
Saturday night (metro v country)

Playing games every second year won’t reduce their chance of getting injured in game.

I always dreamed of pulling on the Big V and would love to see the days of state of origin return but I just can’t see it happening

I'd like to see stats on injuries in game, compared to training and match practice, I reckon it would be pretty similar. AFL players need to harden up in that respect. Also you put the byes either side of origin so players selected know they will get a bye the week before or after.

It’s their career, they want to achieve the ultimate winning the flag.

There will also be pressure from the club who pays their wage

It’s not like the NRL where they have beers in the sheds on Wednesday after origin then suit up for their club Friday night
