Will Brendon Goddard help the Bummers beat Melbourne in 2013?

Doubtful.

$800,000+ a year for a half back flanker that peaked two years ago.

Washed up and injury prone.

Saints will get pick 13 as compensation, seems unfair.

Essendon have invested a huge chunk of cash into a player that has been average for sometime now, could be a master stroke or an epic failure, I know which one I will be hoping for. :)

Just happened to win a Norm Smith 2 years back and was the leading Supercoach Player in the league. Saints had an average season and Goddard still managed to average 24 possesions a game. Suits what Essendon needs with outside midfiels run. Can't see how this deal could end up being a failure. People have been saying that he is 27 and all, but he is the exact same age as Jobe Watson.

If they want a club legend whose best is behind him demanding more years than he's capable of lasting maybe they'd be interested in Paul Chapman? The other plus with Chappy is he has a heart for fightback unlike Goddard and all of Essendon combined. Plus he'll guarantee you wins against the pea-hearted Hawks too.

Goddard had a shocker when we played Melbourne earlier this year when he got tagged out of the game so probably not.

Where did you get this from, the AFL site said it depends on other trades as to the compensation, it's not like the saints haven't already got the best out of him, you cant blame him for wanting a nice retirement package but no reason to overly compensate the saints, they had the option to match Essendon.

We would have been crazy to match Essendon's offer.

I'm sure if some other club offers Cotchin twice what he is worth and you lose him you will want good compensation.

800k for a money hungry flog who's best footy was 2 years ago (but was overrated at the time)..

Hird trying to buy premierships with a quick fix. I will be lololololing when he gets sacked.

Beter read up on the compensation equation son.

Essendon can't beat us when they are 8-1 and we're 0-9. What makes people think Goddard will help the situation?

Essendon's main issue is outside midfield run. Goddard can provide that, as well as great foot skills. People seem to keep saying that Goddard has been ordinary and is past his best. Goddard average 24 touches a game this year. Equal to Hodge's best form in 2010 and 2011.

Outside midfield run? Stop trolling bro.

Essendon's main issue is clearances. Outside run is only good if you can get it there in the first place.

Brendon, why talk about yourself in the third person like that? It's really weird.

Idiot. Essendon has no problem getting the ball. In case you didn't notice we just happen to have a Brownlow Medalist in our side that has no issue winning clearances and didn't miss a game. Our issue came from injuries to Brent Stanton and David Zaharakis who are supposed to get it on the outside.

I watched them every week live this year and it was made clear our issue was the outside midfield depth so we don't get hurt so much on the outside of packs. If we stay injury free and replicate our form from the first half of this season, we are just about the best side in the competition.

Why do the stats tell a different story?

"Washed up and Injury prone"

Are you talking about Goddard or your former captian, Chris Newman? He missed two games this season. How is that injury prone? He still had a decent season if you haven't seen my earlier posts about his stats.

Nothing against Chris, but if Goddard is apparently "washed up", then I don't even know what to call Newman.

After Round 9 we had lost just one match by one point. We had destroyed the side on top of the ladder at the time, West Coast, by over 60 points. The stats do tell a story. Our clearance stats may not have been as good as they were in the first half of the season, but we still averaged the exact same as Geelong.
