Will Minson has generated alot of excitement in my mind. I think he could be a real influence this year and in the future. Do you think he can take the number 1 ruck division now or will it be a little early for him?

I'd have Will swapping with Darcy out of the FP if his fitness allows it. We always look more dangerous with a big body in the goalsquare.

I watched the game last week and big will minson, definetely had more of an impact than darcy, and when minson was off sydney got into the game more, however when it comes to rucking experience counts for everything and the wrong decisions in the ruck (especially around the grounds) can be very costly, but he is diffinetely a very good prospect when darcy retires

To be a good ruckman you not only need to be able to get hitouts in the centre and at stoppages, but be an influence around the ground. When Minson can start taking 5 to 10 mmarks a game then you can call him a good ruckman. Until then he is a Peter Street who can win hitouts.

Minson isn't ready for the first ruck position. He is yet to have an impact around the ground bar his physical presence and his fitness is just not up to it. Yet.

bit harsh considering he gets about 15 minutes a game.

i can sense that you are a non believer!

Big W, Monster Minson, The Fifth Beatle... call him what you like, but the bloke definitely has potential to be a key ruckman. It may be this year, it may be next year or in a couple of years, but I believe he'll definitely spend more time in the ruck than both Bandy and Street, and will come a close second to Darcy for "minutes played in the ruck".

Darcy is obviously the better ruckman, but our lack of key forwards proves that Darcy is needed to play a role in the forward line, where he is a potential 70-80 goals a season player.

What about Grant? Where would he be playing?

Actually the opposite. Unfortunately too many people confuse potential with what is actually achieved. His ruck work was brilliant for 10 minutes but he still did not do enough around the ground. However, I would sooner persist with him as back up ruckman than the moving (slowly) goalpost that is Peter Street

Being excited by a players potential is not the same as confusing potential with achievement. You respond to people as if they have been saying Minson is the complete package and already worthy of star status. Nobody has said that.

Unfortunately some people are so jaded and cynical seeing the best ruck prospect at the club since Darcy started over a decade ago doesn't excite them.

Grant FF leading out, Minson/Darcy FP wrestling in the goal square.

Sounds good although if Minson and darcy are wrestling in the square won't the opposition defenders have a pretty easy task? I'd be more inclined to tell Will and Darcy to stop wrestling with each other and go out and get a kick.

Read the thread Pembleton. Will Minson our FIRST ruck. Last time I looked that is our first choice ruckman. To be FIRST ruck he does have to have more strings to his bow than being able to win a few hit outs.

If he progresses as he has over the last few years in 2007 he may well be the FIRST ruck, but now he is a long way from that.

As for being Jaded until we right the wrongs of 97, yes I will be cynical. I have been on this earth for almost 40 years and am yet to see us play on the last Saturday in September.

I don't think anything in your first paragraph contradicts me. As i said, nobody is saying he is a star, it has been argued that he has something to offer as the number one ruck, you yourself think he had a brilliant patch in the ruck vs the swans. Fair enough you disagree that he is ready to be used as the number 1 ruck, but there is no need to dismiss people on the basis of not understaning the difference between potential and achievement, when nobody is doing that.

Am glad we agree that you are jaded and cynical. Maybe you should feel less need to wear it like a badge of honour, after all, none of us dogs fans have had much to be happy about. I understand some people react to that by being very cautious about expecting the best, but others react to it by being optimistic when they see a ray of hope. I get the impression you look down on the latter category a little bit, probably seeing it as naivity rather than optimism. At the end of the day (whenever that is), we are all long suffering Bulldogs tragics.

Group hug now?
