The afl didn’t intervene cause they didn’t catch him, and their best PR move was to stay distant.

He’s had a 2 year suspension, and then the airport thing. That’s just that we know of.

There’s every chance he gets permabanned if he gets caught 1 more time.

Hell, even another 2 year sentence is just about the same thing as there’s no way he comes back from that.

I don’t think it’s at all contentious. He absolutely would be on his last chance.

That doesn’t mean you write off getting him if he’s what you need, but it has to be a factor in terms of where you risks lie ie contracts , trades.

A long contract and decent money only effects the trade value in that it makes it harder for WC to use the PSD as a bluff.

Yeah I reckon your about right. Which would be around ports future 2nd.
Eagles don’t want this guy to go he’s a NFA and Port are paying good coin and a long contract to poach him. It’s on port to make that happen.

There's an element of risk to this trade.The fact that Junior nominated Port is good.
West Coast have a large number of small forwards.They want Junior out of the club,so can't expect Port to pay a premium.
We know he can play .With Motlop gone and Fanta injured,he does look like a fit.

I realistically think a player with riolis baggage should be near dfa / nothing pick, maybe a 50’s pick..

The media and west coast fans will publicly push Amon compo pick / future 2nd rounder..

Where will it land?

Btw, if we trade out next years second that will mean 4 straight drafts of not picking in the second round (20,21,22,23)

A really bad decision for a club that should be building around its young core.

If we got Rioli for less, it mitigates risk and he fits a huge need, ******* great.

But I’m not going to hold my breathe we don’t * this up.

Can absolutely see why you’d think that. It’s a fair opinion 100%. Our point of view is since you’re willing to offer him 4 years on some pretty good coin, you’d 100% rate him higher than a 50’s pick and doubt we would settle for that

Can see that happening and completely understand why he needs to go to Port. Hopefully from an Eagles perspective, we get a great deal out of this, but from my own perspective, I just wanna see Junior Happy and enjoy his footy again

You say that as if that post is a one off, while the prevailing sentiment coming from west coast fans on bf is “he owes us for sticking by him” as if you guys gave him a kidney rather than kept him on the list at a time when you were shit and half your list was off due to covid.

I like this. Good negotiating tactic, come at us with an insanely bad offer first up, something no monkey could even come up with, and then anything from here seems like a better deal.

Meanwhile, I'm still really disappointed in this move from the club. A 28 year old, small forward with a shi*tload of baggage - injury and drugs. A temporary gap fix, that doesn't solve a long term issue. A player we'll probably have to pay overs for in a trade. It's just such short sighted shit, and shows a lack of understanding of just how far off our list is when we're topping up with these types. Just a terrible list management decision, Hinkleys going to torch this list before he goes and the club should be being stronger and stopping this before it happens.

We give up anymore than a 3rd rounder and I'll be fuming. 4th rounder would be the only deal I'd be happy with.

We kept him on the list after we were one game from top 4 and he derailed the finals series, how were we shit?

Irregardless, can port fans explain why west coast would let Rioli go for pick 51? And why he’s being offered 4 years on good coin but his value is pick 51?

He's uncontracted. You're not 'letting him go'. He's already gone.

The question is where does West Coast draw the line between 'take what we can get' or '**** him, he can go to Norf in the PSD'. Where that line is, who knows. We'll find out in a month or so.

The line certainly won’t be pick 51, what’s the point in that from a WC perspective. We won’t even use that pick.

I’m personally not mad about Rioli leaving, he’s a legit ****ing star and I think pick 26 for him would be a steal for port tbh.

He doesn’t fit our list profile though and we can probably do more with that pick.

He’s the perfect player for port as butters/Rozee go into the middle so not sure why so many in here are down about getting him.

You reckon? I dunno if you've seen your list lately but JJK, Strnadica and Rioli are already gone and there's probably at least 10 other blokes I'd happily delist and replace with pick 51.

Other than fake news, I haven't seen any confirmed reports that we've offered 4 years.
I'll wait for the confirmation.
