In 2022, the average player wage was $389,000 with a salary cap of $13.54m. With the new TV rights, next year will be much more.

We have offered $2m over four years, @ 500K pa, a small fist full of $dollars more.
The Eagle $offer was similiar $dollars but only for only three years.
You've not a clue what he's been offered by either club.

And for what purpose would Jnr Rioli be granted a 50% above the AFL average wage? Statistically he's average. When you consider he's played single digit games in 3 years, 400k a year would be generous.

I think you will find there are other clubs out there happy to offer more than 400kn

Q: What value does a 27 year old, injury prone, with questionable qualities as a role model or mentor to younger players have to a playing list that finished second last, with the majority of its top players pushing retirement age?

A: As many high draft picks or potential young key players to rebuild a team around as possible due to own poor list management.

West Coast's offer was in the realm of 3 years, 575k pa.

Ports offer is 4 years at 500k with escalators in there provided he hits certain KPIs rising the overall figure to around 600k per over 4 years. No idea what the escalators are so don't bother asking me.

Like yourself, I think the level of interest in Junior is ridiculous for a player who statistically hasn't done a whole lot in conjunction with severe red flags off field. Doesnt make the offers ive stated above any less truthful unfortunately though.

Rioli had one serviceable year in a premiership team as a third small forward behind LeCras and Ryan.

A 4 year contract for a 50 game small forward is a massive show of faith. It may all come unstuck 18 months in, and Fantasia is still not quite up to it.

Adding to that is the off-field problems and baggage, questions over fitness and the ability to compliment our list profile are all red flags.

That word 'potential' can ultimately be (fatally) expensive.

However, on a lighter note he is a Gemini (self) so which of the twins shall Port see;)

I must admit to not being a fan, but there have been others traded in in recent times I've not been keen on and been wrong about. To me it just smacks of desperation and I don't think we're desperate, at least not for a small forward. Does it imply the club doesn't think Fantasia is going to make it?

We'd have to be pretty sure that Burgoyne can keep him on the straight and narrow, or this could all blow up in our faces.

Is there actually a source for that though? Other than 'it is understood'? Even West Coast's offer seems utterly stupid to me, but at least understandable for a club bottoming out and needing to meet salary min.

Wait what ever happened to Mark LeCras? When did he retire?

For some reason I thought he was younger lol

I wouldn't have put these numbers out there unless I had sourced them from people well connected to player agents and the clubs themselves.

Whilst I can't specifically reveal who told me this, if you go back and look at my history of posts, you'll see that both REH and I are not happy with the current state of events regarding the entire PAFC. In approaching various people over the last month (some of whom we have had prior relationships, others who are fresh faces), I have been privy to a ton of information, of which Rioli's contract situation is one little tidbit.

You can choose to ignore it, or you can choose to believe what I'm saying (I don't care either way). Doesn't change the truth of the matter one iota.

We are desperate for a small forward, I just don't think Rioli is much of an upgrade. SPP is a god tier defensive small forward. He should be the first picked small forward every week. Mcentee showed us 'something' in the last 2-3 games. His baseline should be below AFL standard, but not by much. Williams we don't know, but he should get a crack and has been good in the SANFL when played forward. His defensive efforts won't be worse than Robbie Gray's this year. That leaves Fantasia, who admittedly is about as likely to play a full season as I am to get a date with Margot Robbie, but he plays well whenever he plays. You also have the plethora of players that fill that wing role that we want to give games to but can't find a spot on the wing or in defence i.e Bergman, Duursma, Sinn, Bonner, Houston, and Farrel can't all play wing/ HBF. On top of that there are the midfielders who need a place to rest in Boak, Wines, Rozee and Butters. We also should be playing the quadrangle next year otherwise Georgiades is out of here. So alot of weeks should only require 2 permanent small forwards.

In a worst case scenario where Fantasia doesn't get on the park, Williams is a bust, and Sinn doesn't play (whether form or fitness) is the difference between Rioli and Mcentee really worth trading a 2nd round pick and 500k a year? The KPFs are super mobile, complement one another, and will kick a score if we give them any sort of structure, I don't see the small forwards as being as critical in that situation. Those 4 will already command a fair chunk of our cap, I just don't think you can have a gun forward line and no one to kick it to them (or defend). It also sends a terrible signal to Marshall and Georgiades who rightly might think they deserve a fair chunk more than the 500kx4 Rioli is supposedly getting offered.

There's a huge disconnect between the reality of our situation and the thoughts of the leaders within the club. Hence why it is hugely concerning we would overpay for someone like Rioli as we're miles off being a contender. I've personally been banging on about this for ages. It's the most depressing part of our current situation. We are stuck mid table and are zero threat to the top teams and the other teams that are going past us, and the messaging out of the club and the decisions being made are completely the wrong strategy and messages given where we are at.
Yes man, I don't like this constant trading out of seconds and future seconds. Keep loading up in the draft, we aren't a top up player away from a flag, we've had that mentality this whole time under Ken. I swear every year we use the old "we don't think this draft is as strong", piss off. Build a proper balanced list.

Well, I take it all back. We are that stupid.

Hopefully the KPIs are ambitious I guess :(
