According to my sources the problems at dimboola may not be just financial issues either...

that is your second post suggesting something is up in the dim camp without elaborating....so, either:

a) have the balls to say what 'your source' says the issue is; or

b) make like a shepherd

All I mean is I think the community in general is getting sick and tired of the club spending thousands of dollars on players that are shipped in for the footy season. Most of the money they are getting paid is probably not even being put back in the town as they do not even live there.. Not good! Even noticed there supporter base has decrased dramatically this year.

Brett Goodes is a registered Dimboola player who wouldn't be getting a cent IMO. He is on the North Ballarat Roosters list and was available for Dim due to the VFL having a weekend off for the State game.
Funny how he only registered on fri. i think the wfl website says and i know that he spoke to an opposition club b4 the start of the season and said he gets $800 p/week at nth ballarat and the club told him he would be better off staying there. I also ask the question why hasn`t he played for them b4 seeing that they are his HOME club and not sounding out the opposition pre-season. I would have thought he would have been paid an incentive to come home for one game. For the record this isn`t havin a go at him as he is a good fella.

I think you'll find he has been injured and that may have been his first game for the year. Dimboola is his home club through the VFL interchange system but realistically his home club is North Ballarat and he will play there when fit and available.

Mick Fratin is one of the most talented footballers I've seen. Thumping right foot kick, strong overhead mark and has plenty of confidence.

Changing tack, with the signings noted in the Mail-Times, can we hope to see United mount a serious challenge to Horsham's dominance? Always the better blokes at United out of the 3 Horsham clubs I felt, so good luck to em.

HORSHAM United has landed two major signings five rounds into the Wimmera Football League season.
Rover Andrew Carter, 26, has returned to the Wimmera after a stint in Mackay and will play for the Diggers this season.
Carter's friend Jake Kearney, who comes with state league experience, has also joined the club. United has the bye this weekend but the pair will play in a match against Stawell at Central Park on Saturday.
Carter, an in-and-under rover with outstanding skills, joined the Diggers from Horsham in 2005.
Kearney, 25, is a strongly-built centre half forward who has played with SANFL clubs South Adelaide and Sturt. He also played for the North Ballarat Rebels in the TAC Cup under- 18 competition.
Kearney, like Carter, is originally from Edenhope.
The coup will boost United's chances in a premiership race where Stawell, Dimboola and the Diggers loom as genuine premiership threats to competition powerhouse Horsham.
United coach Brian Cassidy described the news as exciting for the club and said the signings had provided his players with a boost.
"I'm not going to say something stupid like we'll win the flag. We're aiming to win enough games to finish in the top three," he said.
"That would then give us a realistic chance.
"This will give our guys confidence that we've got good players coming in. We'll be a better team for it."
He added that Carter and Kearney would fill deficiencies the side had experienced in opening-round matches.
"We've probably been lacking that on-baller and centre half forward so far," he said. "Carts is hard at the ball and a good finisher. When he is fit there isn't a better rover going around.
"From watching Jake at training he's very hard at the ball, kicks both feet and handballs with both hands.
"We know what impact Carts will have, but if Jake can hold down centre half forward we'll be a very good side.
"We'll be hard to beat."
Carter told the Mail-Times that he was delighted to return to the Diggers.
"We've trained a couple of nights now and it's great to be back with the boys," he said.
"We're going to be a pretty good side this year. "We've got a very good playing group, good young kids coming through and key position players. "Jake and I can't wait to get out there and play."

Travis Lannin to be a good match up for Fratin tige i reckon.

Thanks roaring tiger.

Yep Lal has been doing well this year and prooved himself when he played on johnsy a few weeks back, especially in one on one contests. Thought you may also be interested to know that Brad Meyer has stepped up and given nhill another avenue to goal, sneaking three last week from a flank.

Yeah i have been watchings the scores and seen Meyersy kicking a few goals. He has the ability its just a matter of him getting his attitude sorted which by the looks of it he has. Davidson has got things going in the right direction which Nhill haven't had in many years. I would say Nhill had a better list last year but he is getting more out of blokes that he has this year. Maybe they will sneak into the finals this year and spend up next year with a couple of recruits to challenge for there first flag since 81?

Warrack Eagles playes their first home Game at Anzac Park for the Season playing Minyip-Murtoa. Eagles chance to win in the reserves which could send them up to 2nd spot having a very good Percentage,. The Eagles should beable to win all if they want to Eagles should have a fairly comfortable win .

Dimboola to win by 90+ against Horsham Saints
Nhill v Ararat should be a close game Nhill by 10pts
stawell v United tough one as well. diggers by 20 pts

a few tough games

It sounds like all you guys have a very good idea of whats going on in the league and in the area. I used to play in the Wimmera, but have since left the area to work overseas. I like to look at Big Footy to see how blokes are going and teams. To me it seems that the league has really dropped off since about 2001. Back then when the Eagles beat Aarat, it seemed like the standard and crowds were first class. What seems to be the problem if any. Is it too many good young players get taken away or teams not good enough to recruit.

Would like some serious answers if there are any out there.

My predictions for this week..
Dimboola over saints- they need a big win to restore there confidence.
Nhill should account for ararat by 30+ pts
United and Stawell will be a corker, ill say the diggers to get over the line
Minyip murtoa will be to good for the eagles.

Probably nearly 10 kids play Rebels, district clubs pay stupid amounts for players especially Edenhope Apsley if the players are OK then you don't mind, they pay blokes they have never seen or heard of $200 plus a game. With Tuckey,Fratin,Miller,Johns,Carr,Kosch,Adam Carter still some good players and young blokes like Adlington from Horsham coming along. Crowds have dropped off a bit need the other teams to get closer to Horshams standard as people won't want to watch their team get beaten by 15 goals. Hopefully Stawell,United,Dimmy and others can put some pressure on them.

HERE IS YOUR TOP 3 COME SEPTEMBER AND ANY SIDE CAN WIN IT,EXPECT HORSHAM TO COUGH UP A GAME OR 2 IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE SEASON.

HORSHAM
STAWELL
HORSHAM UNITED

THE REST WILL MAKE UP NUMBERS SO LETS HOPE UNITED OR THOSE GAY BAR LOITERERS FROM STAWELL CAN WIN THE FLAG.

The key to Horsham is Johns if he gets injured they will be in a bit of trouble. The same with Stawell they will need tuckey not to get injured. Untied even though they lost on the weekend seem to have a very even team and don't rely on to many gun Players. Interesting to see Brad miller struggling to kick the big bag of goals like a couple of years ago. I would expect untied to choke come finals time though.

The Nhill boys would be very happy at the moment sitting in 2nd spot a game clear. If they win this week against MM they should play finals for the first time since 2002.

The way nhill played against dimboola shows that they could more than make up numbers at finals time. Dimboola was close to full strength and nhill outplayed them. If players like lannin, graham and merrett stand up in finals and a dodds watson or phillips can kick a score they could be a surprise packet.

Wondering if anyone has any news on why Jackson and Fratin didn't make the trip to nhill??? Would've been a better test for the team although they accounted for them fairly easily without playing near their best.

Jacko made the trip to Nhill and played, Frato didn't as he was carrying an injury of some sought, however did also make the trip!!

Jackson did play against nhill! Although he wasnt really influential playing as a forward flanker for most of the day, probably shouldnt hav been playing due to a groin injury. As for Fratin, I beleive he is still getting over the injury which put a question mark over him for Interleague, from what I can gather it is some type of chest injury. Good to see him there to support the boys on saturday tho.

Where is all the money coming from for the district league clubs??? Most are tiny towns that gets most of their players from horsham so i can't understand why people would pour money into a sub-standard league because the wimmera league is suffering for it. Players like butsch, Burdett, and the like show that playing for money is the only reason they play football, because if players like that come back to wimmera they will still be paid decently and it will lift the wimmera league back to a similar status of around 2000 when the eagles and rats were very strong and the competition was a lot more even.

Jus wondering how minyi murtoa are travelling and what nhill's chances are on the weekend. Believe lannin can keep midgley under 5. Who would go with kosch and what sort of player is he?? In-and-under or outsider, stocky or slight, fast/slow, height, etc. Because if nhill can restrict the amount of times these two touch the ball i believe the game will be a walk in the park. Keeping kosch quiet sounds as though it will still be a huge headache and should make for a great contest. Back the tiges in due to the team performances rather than relying on a few guns like min/mur

You would expect to see A Beer to go with Kosch but whether beery has the smarts to go with Kosch will be the interesting thing. You would still expect Kosch to get his 25 touches as he is a class player with VFL experience.

What are people's thoughts on the standard of the WFL league? I think it has dropped a fair bit compared to a few years ago. The top 6-8 players in most teams are still the same but i think the depth in most sides as dropped right off.
