This is the only s**t that stops me giving 5 stars. I don't care about your views on life, your views on politics, your family, how miserable you are because you were an engineer back home. Just shut up and drive, and you'll get 5.

I reckon every Uber driver I get wants to talk cricket. I'll allow it

I don't take Ubers too often but take them to Adelaide Oval during summer semi-regularly and I had to stop putting that I was going there and instead put somewhere close because the drivers would chat Cricket to me and then use it as a gateway to get talking about their personal lives.

Took an Uber to the airport a couple of weeks back, bloke was a retired truckie and he was just unbearable, thought his own jokes were hilarious (they weren't) and just couldn't take a hint that I was not interested in a chat. Give me a sub-continental person talking on the phone over that any day.

As for work Xmas Parties, just depends on work colleagues. Work in a great team at the moment so the party was quite enjoyable but wouldn't think twice about not attending if I couldn't stand them.

To the gents on the board. Some advice at xmas parties..

Ask yourself.....Am I standing in front of a urinal?...if Yes, it is OK to have your penis out
Otherwise....No.

EXCEPTION: When asking if anyone has seen your elephant, upon the looks of confusion pull the pockets up and out of your trousers. They're your ears. Unzip and unlimber. That's your trunk. Make elephant noises.

Have another beer.

3 people called in sick today with covid like symptons.

Here we go!
Sure Jan GIF

LOL they're taking the piss

I was listening to a podcast yesterday who suggested that, as part of the Festivus airing of grievances, work Christmas parties should designate a corner with a boxing ring where you can sort out your grievances from the previous year with any colleagues.

Goddamn that's an excellent idea. It would've been enough to keep me in my last job if I could've towelled up my boss once a year.

Used to be a strong advocate for Christmas parties but to be honest they should do one.

Prior to our Chrissy do, we had what was ostensibly a proto event but with other companies within the field.

A woman who has been in the company for two years got so drunk she was slyly offering a shitty local celebrity, Spicks and Specks sort, cocaine. I was the only one who saw this. kept it to myself. within three hours she was walking around a ball room in no shoes with her dress half way up her body. she'd also set the tone for the teenage intern who was chain pouring wines every time I saw her.

The intern, who was going to be offered a full-time position this month, has now been forced to resign / her parents saw how drunk she was when she got home (she'd spewed in the uber on the way home; which of course the company found out about because they paid for it) and didn't want her in that environment.

The 50-year old woman who threw things around the room and threatened to quit and had a go at the CEO and her immediate boss apparently got a call the next day from the bosses and said she did nothing wrong. in fact, apparently everyone else drove her to getting drunk because she didn't get enough recognition throughout the year.

Spoke to a bloke who worked at a similar organisation and he said this is happening lots now. people can't afford to go to a bar anymore so see the idea of unlimited piss as a bonus win. people lost social skills since covid. whatever.

I am a very heavy drinker and I've done some stupid shit in my life but these humans who sacrifice their job are truly nuts. you lose a reference, no one can afford a month without income with a mortgage/rent...

Truly pathetic behaviour.

Had mine last week. The official function was just a cruise on the yarra. Afterwards the real party starts and we hit some Colombian bars with the Colombian colleagues. My god what a night. Back into the hotel room at 430am for a 10am checkout.

Unpopular opinion perhaps but I think the work xmas party is very important to show up to, I've only missed one in my FT working life which was interstate during COVID.

Interested to know why you think this?
