Wasn't expecting a walk off mercy win. But it will help with a big game to come against Japan and possibly a top two deciding game against the Czechs.
Especially after that loaded bases 5-2 situation.
13 runs, 19 hits. That’s alright.

Japan is going to be difficult. Nothing to lose, go out there and prove themselves.

Czech Republic is going to be huge. Would be great if they lose to Korea and Japan.

First mercy rule of the tournament

Japan helped us out last night

Glendinning's stat line looking good

Roki Sasaki starting for Japan tonight. This kid is special. That means we probably get Yamamoto starting against us.

Less than 12 months ago he pitched a record breaking perfect game against a star studded Buffaloes lineup. Thats the Buffaloes who won it all at the end of the year.

Sasaki had news crews filming his middle school training.

Had to pause. 20 year old pitcher throwing a perfect game to an 18 year old catcher. Wow.

The Yoshida the narrator talks about (struck out 3x) is the very same one who signed for the Red Sox over the break and who is playing LF for Japan in the WBC

Seriously insane. Thank you for posting.

I was actually thinking of Kerry Wood’s 105 game score performance while watching the video and was wondering if Sasaki’s game score might have been mentioned in the video. It was and Sasaki’s was 106.

That youtuber produces top quality content that really opens up the Japanese game to English speakers.

I believe I have seen some of his content. Will definitely be checking out more, now that there will be more and more Japanese players coming to the majors. That was a nice and short video, no fluff.

He has a good video on Yamamoto who I am guessing will start against us. Yamamoto only has to punch out one more NPB season to get his right to go to the US.

I’ll check that out. Thanks mate! :)

Japan have serious talent. Development is on point.
Find it interesting that MLB is the favourable league but Japan’s isn’t far behind. Just don’t have the cash v MLB’s ridiculousness. A Japanese team in the MLB wouldn’t be that far fetched

Its hard to compare for many reasons but there is a clear gap in favour of the MLB. My view is:
  • Japan has a few guys with potential to star in MLB
  • Most of the 12 Japan teams have a 1 to 3 guys who could get a pretty regular MLB game... and a lot of guys who just couldn't

So there is crossover amongst individual players but team vs team is not real close.

The Japan national team could probably be equated to an MLB franchise I suppose. But lacking depth.

There will not be an MLB franchise in Japan.

Can say the same for MLB teams for example.
Oakland, Detroit, Arizona are trash.
LA Angels, apart from Ohtani and Trout aren't really that good.
The quality up the top certainly stands out but the bottom tier is pretty uncompetitive for the most part.
Japan every year is getting stronger no doubt. The league has faster baseball, more emphasis on contact v power which MLB favours more. It's more tactical that's for sure.

Korea gets their first win. Helps Australia too. Japan beats Czech next match and it’s between Korea and Australia. Is there a tiebreaker if Australia loses today and beat Czech next game? 2 wins apiece as well as Korea beating China

You only play 4 games. Best korea can do is 2-2

If Australia loses to Japan and beats czechia we are 3-1

Felt sorry for Sherriff. He's 20 years old and never pitched professionally in the US. Was on a hiding to nothing. Should have started Wilkins.

To be honest, I have not been impressed with Nilsson managing Australia so far. It's been the bats carrying Australia.

The mercy win over China helps, but if Japan mercy wins over Australia, not sure whether that cancels it out.

Yamamoto is a great pitcher. Takahashi on now has put in some great performances over the last 2 years. Takahashi is married to a pop star much more famous than him in Japan.
