No, the question is "What ideas have they raised thus far that have been implemented?"

I think the answer is none. You have failed to demonstrate that the answer is anything other than none. I'm listening if you have any evidence to the contrary.

You made the statement.
And now want me to do the research for you.

Are you even here to discuss the world economic forum?

Oh I see, another disingenuous cooker.

Despite your paranoia about the WEF, the point was made that no country has ever run with any of their ideas. You asked "how can you be sure?" and my contribution to the discussion is that the proof is in front of us, i.e. there is no evidence that any country has ever run with any of their ideas.

And in the spirit of discussion, I then invited you to disprove my point (or, prove your contention) by providing evidence. This is not research for me, as I stand by my view. If you disagree, tell us why.

The funniest thing about all of this, is that you’ll probably tell us you don’t care about the WEF.. whilst getting all riled up about it (as above) and deciding to go the insult route.

Thanks for dropping by and wasting everyone’s time here though.

LOL. So you've got nothing. Which is obvious to everyone here.

But you're right about one thing, I don't care about the WEF for a second. It's a talkfest amongst a group of people who think they're important.

Neither of us have provided anything.

I asked the question.

You gave your answer with no proof behind it.

Then you proceeded to go the personal route.

Sweet, you don’t care, then kindly take a hike and let people who want to discuss it, discuss it. Complete waste of time.

You seem to be missing the point. I gave a view that it (WEF recommendations being implemented) hasn't happened, which would easily be disproved with one piece of evidence of it happening. You have the contrary view but are unable to provide evidence. Seems like I'm probably right, no?

They aren’t sitting in the snow, sharing ideas, doing cocaine and hookers, then heading home, waiting to do it all again. They are involved in many many aspects of life. I guess we’ll see where things sit in 5-10 years time.

Sure, but nothing they've proposed has ever been implemented in a country's policies, has it?

Which is exactly my original point. You know, the one you reacted to?

Well done, but surely you don't believe that WEF are the ones that developed AI, drones, vaccines, IoT, pollution controls, etc.

So, they (assert that) they've played a role in helping developing nations with new technology. Not really that evil, is it?

Our conversation wasn’t about if they are evil or not or what they have developed. You asked if anything they had proposed had been implemented, and it has.

Their role is to promote and share ideas. They’ve made no secret in working alongside governments, stakeholders, CEOs and businesses already in many countries.
So when they actively say, numerous times, things like, car ownership “will” heavily reduce and highways “will” become parks, people have every right to question it, or discuss it, especially if we have Australians going and attending.

They are more than just a talkfest.

Hopefully next time you want to try and insult someone with the pathetic word “cooker”, you have a better and longer think about it first.

Do people realise that ‘own nothing and be happy’ is literally what happened to the music and movie industry?

No one really buys cds or dvds anymore. They subscribe to a streaming service instead. They own nothing. They’re happy.

Big difference between music and movies to shared appliances/motor vehicles/phone etc.

Of course they are happy, they don’t need to go to a store to buy a CD or DVD that they are probably going to use once a year. A click of a button gets them the song and movie when required.

We already have car sharing services, we already have ride sharing services. It’s really not that big a leap.

It would have seemed unfathomable for Spotify and such to have completely changed the music industry, until it wasn’t.

Correct, and it’s great, it’s also great to give everyone the option.

Just like DVDs and CDs are still available. People just choose not to.

Exactly.

You'll never be able to download an appliance or car, so those type of schemes will never be as ubiquitous as the setup we have for media.

BMW have set up a subscription service for some features on their latest cars so I'm the future that may not be 100% correct.
The pace of change is accelerating!

All sounds very good. Reduced waste, force companies to make durable products - shifting away from the throwaway society. Sharing like we used to do is good. I do it with friends already for some things.
Yeah it sounds good in theory, what it would look like in practice is another matter. Vic just recently implemenetd the 10c deposit scheme for containers. In practice it is just another tax, only a small portion of the eligible containers will ever be returned for the deposit.

So a tax on lazy people. WA have had it for a few years. I recycle about 95% of my containers. The remainder are when I'm out.

The issues I see put forward seem to be "I don't want to change anything and shouldn't have to" when most of the things being put forward are a reversion to prior times.

When I was young cool drink came in recycled/reused glass bottles. Container recycling just got forgotten for a while.

The issue I put forward is that it is an additional tax on the purchase. We already have recycling bins.

I also remember getting soft drink in glass bottles that would be returned for reuse, but the company would come to your house to collect them, now you need to collect rubbish in your house then go out of your way to return them to collect your "deposit".

We took them back to shops.

If you want to view it as a tax then by changing habits you get that tax back. Like a lot of taxes, they're there to make a habit more expensive and thus less people do it.

I already pay for the recycling bin service. As it stands now I need to collect all my rubbish, spend time and money going to the depot just to recoup a part of the increased cost.

I just don't see how this will lead to more recycling, although i'm sure there will be a massive increase in people raiding the recycling bins when they are put on the kerb for collection.

You don't need to do any of those things. You can just pay your "tax".

In WA it's working.
