I can't believe people would vote for Grant, he was solid for pretty much the whole 300 games.

People of BF have such poor memories.

And what the hell is the big fish doing on that list. He was a superstar from the word go, got cut down by a knee injury, game back and was still a gun forward, then changed clubs only to be the best ruckman in the comp and mananged over 300 games in the process. He is in Hawthorn's team of the century FFS and he played 2/3 of his games at Essendon. That is pretty impressive.

He was a gun as a youngster, very good player in his prime and still pretty dangerous near the end of his career.

300 games, NS medal, Syd Barker medal, won many games of his own boot. I guess I can see how someone might not rate him.

That explains only 2 votes for Barry Breen. He was a very good player in his prime, but he got a lot of games at the end of his career with some very weak Saints sides.

A few up there have been solid players over a very long time. Some are greats and shouldn't even be considered (hint hint Salmon). Newman apparently was favourite for a brownlow one year and only just missed out on one and wasn't in the team of the century for no reason.

I don't know enough about Breen or Greene to really comment.

Agree with that. IIRC, Salmon made both the Essendon & Hawthorn teams of the century.

Similarly, Kelvin Moore would commonly be considered one of the best six fullbacks to have ever played the game.

Of the players I've seen on the list, Rohan Smith is the weakest.

Sure Shannon Grant is a tool but he's not the worst player there. Nathan Burke takes that easily.

i read all that before i voted. great at the time. I still posit that he should have retired in 04 and was too pigheaded to know when to give up.

He was a first 22 player for all of 2005 and was playing as well as ever in the first half of 06, averaging 20 disposals and 8 marks a game, before he was injured (which was an impact injury, not a soft tissue problem) against Richmond. His season was derailed more by that than by his age. If we didn't have such an old ass list at the time, one probably could have argued that he deserved another year. If you believe Ben's side of the story, he was pretty poorly treated by the club in the way they delisted him.

Good question. Actually I intended this poll to be worst 250 game player, but there were too many of them for me to come up with a list of 20. Peckett would surely be front and square in that list.

One of my all time faves.
He was pivotal to the hawks running game in the 80's.
Completely turned his career around after leaving Saints. Amazing what a difference a culture built on success will do. Little known fact that he captained vic's as well when state footy mattered.
