Worst umpired game you've seen?

This is the game that made me start the thread. I think Essendon's first 5 goals were from free kicks, and a few of them were absolute howlers. I wrote on the Hawks board about it earlier, but Cox took an amazing mark on the goal line that Goldspink decided, from 30 metres away, was a goal to Essendon—despite the goal ump thinking differently and the replays showed was clearly a mark.
Anyone who saw a Hawthorn game that Goldspink 'umpired' would have to agree he had an seething hatred of the Hawks.
2001pf being a perfect case on point.
Has anyone EVER seen a perfectly positioned and sighted goal umpire overruled by a ****ing feild ump standing on an angle out near the 50 meter arc???????????????
Standard operating procedure for this little campaigner.

Heard it was around this time that the Hawks started grooming Stevic

I don't recall any apology, although I do remember he admitted some mistakes, I could be wrong though, any links?

2014? Yeah I'm still annoyed about those last few minutes.
They missed a clear hold on Hodge just before they paid him the questionable HTB.
Then in that final play, Monfries clearly held Lake in the marking contest and then got him high and no free wtf? and then people want HTB against Lake but when you look at the replay footage you can see the ball come out the back and a Port player pushes it back in when he had 2 players to give it off to.

Yeah.. nah. If you want a neutrals perspective on it go back and read the matchday thread on here.

But yes it was 2014 not 2013 I was talking about.

There was a Fitzroy v Adelaide game in the 1990s that was shown on here a while ago, I think there's a YouTube video of it. I'm not saying the umpires were paid off in that game, but if the umpires were ever paid off to fix an AFL match, that's probably what it would look like. WWE-calibre officiating.

Yep, that one came straight to mind.
Another one that had more hanging on it was the final at Football Park where clear mark to Leigh Colbert not paid.
Sliding doors moment that probably ended up allowing the door open to the Crows flag that year.

Think the sucking up to the umps started in the 'Unsociable hawks' era.
If I was Clarko I would have had the players inviting the umps round for BBQs and calling them ****ing 'Sir' on the field, anything to not piss them off.
With Goldspink though.........
All the players wives, girlfriends and mothers could have pleasured him in every way under the sun for the entire off season and he still would have paid in the back for the first perfect tackle a hawk player laid in the first minute of the first match.

Yep that's what I thought, they admitted a few mistakes but no apology, I think it was another game that year or the year before where he apologised, but not the prelim game.

Yeah.. nah. If you want a neutrals perspective on it go back and read the matchday thread on here.
Are you disputing those decisions I mentioned?
Every game day thread Hawks get an armchair ride according to 'neutrals', but they conveniently ignore all of the stuff that didn't go our way, including those crucial last quarter decisions I detailed, the umps got right on the Port comeback wagon in that last quarter, but we got the better of the umpiring in the first half

I went to an Essendon Swans game at the SCG in 2010 I think it was. We were absolutely robbed. On the way out after the game Swans fans were actually apologising to me on behalf of the umpires.

I remember that game. Worse I have seen by a long shot. It was just deplorable.

When we played Geelong in Geelong in 2014, can't remember seeing much worse. Best part was Stevie J grabbing a Freo player around the neck, flopping to the ground and getting a free kick which resulted in a goal. I think he also kicked Lachie Neale in the head at one point.

Our game against you in 2008 was worse. Mark Harvey came out in the media the night before the game and said Freo were going to attempt to rough Geelong up the following day. You guys proceeded to do just that, but for some reason the umpires turned a blind eye to it, and were pinging Geelong players for retaliating. Frees in the 1st quarter were something like 20-2 Freo's way. The violence escalated to the point Solomon caved Ling's cheekbone in with an elbow off the ball. Was the only time I'd ever seen the normally placid crowd at Geelong baying for blood.

2009 Prelim final, Dogs v Saints

Umpires handed the Saints a spot in the GF
was that the game where it finished 17 free kicks each and neither team scored a single goal from a free kick?
here's what cost you the game: Choking! Again!
9 Goals Kicked 7
6 Behinds Kicked 9
0 Rushed Behinds 2
15 Scoring Shots 18
60.0% Conversion 38.9%

I loved Peter McKenna displaying his disgust for the umpiring by shouting "absolute murder" as Jamieson kicked the winning goal after the siren.

The Jamieson holding the ball decision was a shocker but the one 30 seconds earlier when Maynard was tackled around the waist but was given a free kick for being tackled too high was the worst decision ever.

Saints got a lot of questionable last minute frees in that period.

Winning and then unwinning the Geelong v Saints qualifying final in 2010 still burns. Admittedly though, we were only in that position because we didn't turn up for the first half.

Thought this might have been 2008?

Can remember that in 2007 Essendon got a win against us in the dying minutes when Mark Mcveigh kicked a goal from 2m out of bounds, was some terrible umpiring that night.

The following year we got a fairly decent ride against you guys almost like an apology from the umpires for the previous year.

Yeah that was the last game of the curse. That one was shocking but it was also the same game that this happened:

That's almost as bad as Rioli on Duncan in the dying stages of the Hawkins game in 2012. Almost, but not quite. That game should never in a million years have come down to the Porkins kick. I had never seen a more blatant and ridiculous miss of a holding the ball/dropping the ball/incorrect disposal free in my 40 years of watching football, until it was repeated with Hill on Malceski in the '14 GF. Incidents where 40-50,000 people in the stadium could see it, 40-50,000 saw it but were in denial about it, but one single, lone bloke who is paid good money to see it, didn't.

Adelaide got a dream ride through that semi final. If you admit and acknowledge that, nothing changes.

Why are you Geelong supporters so incensed by one bad umpiring decision in one game 20 odd years ago? If Colbert didnt kick the goal from that mark, it wouldnt be an issue. Bickley kicked an own goal so its pretty much even.

We're not incensed, we just know that Adelaide got a huge advantage from the umpires throughout that game.
It changes nothing, but when a topic for "worst umpired games" pops up, that game is worthy of discussion.

6 of your 9 goals were from frees that night, but don't let the facts get in the way of a good story. And yep, I'm still very salty about that loss.

As for our choke, what do you call what you blokes did the following week against Geelong - 0 goals in the last qtr is not exactly finding the line now is it, especially for a strong favourite who only lost 2 games by less than a kick all season? Still, we all know you were incredibly lucky to even make the GF, not that you made the most of your good fortune the week after.
