I remember that game v Essendon. Was a tough dour contest, & young bloke called Fletcher did a real good job on Gazza Snr at a time when he was at his peak of form. Only when he got injured did he get off the leash a bit - I think Sheedy stuck Kickett on him for the last quarter!

But then again we had lost Lynch to injury before the finals among other things that started to go against us. I did a thread on 1997 some time ago and it's still too raw for some. Was for me, our last chance with that group.
