Wow!!!! Sanderson apologizes.

Where in the article did it say he apologised?

I took the article as Sanderson losing his cool and being annoyed with himself that he did. It's very much the fashion now that simply shouting achieves nothing and that you need to convey a meaningful message, which he didn't do, as he was too busy shouting.

Everyone rushes to scream that the game has gone soft without actually seeking out the article and seeing what was said...of course, it is much better to be dramatic rather than look at things rationally!

Sanderson pretty much said that he was disappointed that he let things spill over emotionally. No doubt he would have been, messages are received much more effectively if you can bring things down from the top tier of emotion to an objective message.
Obviously a spray is a spray, and Rutten is big and ugly enough to understand it's not personal and that he must lift his game, but like Sanderson said, he wouldn't do that to a younger player because they are more likely to concentrate on being sprayed rather than what he is actually being instructed to do. That's just not helpful for anyone.

That's it. There was no formal apology as far as I'm aware, and there is nothing to suggest that we should be in here whining and crying about 'the game being soft'.

Adelaide coach apologizes for pointing his finger and pushing Rutten at quarter time in weekends game.
I never thought I would ever in my lifetime see a coach having to apologize for his actions with his players, especially grown men.
How precious has all this become? He has obviously been told to make a statement and apologize by the club or the AFL.

Just when you thought you had seen it all, the AFL deliver another copy of the Womans Day.
Where is the apology? Where is the quote? I never heard one. Jesus, talk about sensationalism. You are just as bad as the online newspaper editors.

I think you owe Sando an apology for making up bulsh1t.

Where did the call for an apology come from?

Just remember this was always his choice. No matter who told him to do what - it was his choice. The game is not soft - we are. It's all of our choices. No one is telling us to do anything. Remember that.

..the good old days when the players copped it and moved on....

Haha can you imagine speaking to anyone under 25 like that these days, a counsellors dream. they would be home getting a hug from their mummy and crying for days, and of course they would give up the sport as well. lol

Ha. Allegedly apologising for passion. Now I've heard it all.

He screamed 'wake up' at him and poked him..so what?

We had a senior coach a few years ago at our local club ( a former AFL player ) who punched our then ruckman in the jaw at halftime in the rooms because he wasn't happy with his efforts.

That bloke, later in the year told me " Best thing that could have happen to me that day..I deserved it "

That's footy:p

I haven't seen it, but the way it has been described on radio and by people here it sounds pretty bad.

I think it was a sign of disrespect to his players, doesn't matter how poorly they played you don't do things like that, poor coaching imo.

He needs to lead by example, losing his cool and singling out players isn't going to fill the team with confidence or winning spirit.

The AFLPA will be actually happy at this I bet. They love players being wrapped in cotton wool and protected.
They just have too much power these days and it's their influence that pressures clubs and individuals into to doing things utterly unnecessary like this to satisfy an increasingly precious society.
