G'day guys. I read these posts a lot but really chip in....now's the time!

we're amongst the top 4 highest scorers in the league - short people or not, the forward line is getting the runs on the board

Very true.

We currently kick a goal every 3.45 times the balls enters our forward 50. That's 4th in the league behind Collingwood (2.89!), WC (3.23) and Adelaide (3.44).

I guess it could be argued that there would be more inside 50's if we had a tall to 'bomb' to, but I don't think that's the point.

Reading the posts, I haven't seen one person mention one D. Bandy. (Apologies if anyone has). Surely it's his job as a CHF to take marks, to bring balls to ground. So far this year he has been hardly sighted....Has he taken a contested mark all season?

Small forward line is fine....so long as there is some presence across half forward.

So as I see it, either Bandy needs to get some form/confidence back in a hurry (well, he DOES need to!), but I'd much rather see Darcy push forward instead more (although with lack of height defensively this is obviously difficult!
Now I DO think we have to persist with him; I know he can play good football......
...But I'll throw 2 other names out there that are WAY passed their prime....Eagleton and Dimattina (If, infact, Eagleton ever had one!).
I've read numerous posts about Eagleton, so I'll move on.......
Dimattina's disposal skills are nothing short of attrocious. Admittedly he does have 9 clearances for the year, but if we are to keep this 'precision' type of game-plan (hence the small forward line) then he simply must go.

Which leads me back to the original subject...Rohde's and his game plan.
I believe he IS trying to implement a more defensive, more accountable brand of football, but it seems the players are having a tough time to adjust after years of being told to run forward all day.

I've watched all three games this season, and our disposal skills across the board have been TERRIBLE!!

Having said that...Don't be too down on us just yet. There is significant evidence suggesting that playing in the Dome in the first 4 weeks of a season DOES take some run out of the legs the week after ;)
(Unfortunately our only non-Dome game in the first 7 weeks is in Brisbane!!:( )

Welcome Back to the Forum MrChristo, your opinion is valued here just like everybody else's. In the end all we want is our team to be competitive and ultimately succeed.
Look forward to reading more of your posts.

Thanks, SCRAY.....Meant to say I RARELY post before

I'd also like to add, that the poor showing so far has as much to do with the venue as anything else. (And not just the tired legs factor for the following week.)

Our record at the Dome is dismal. 6 wins and a draw from the last 20 matches, with wins over Carlton, Kanga's, Freo, Geelong and St. Kilda (x2)!
And there is good reason: The lack of wind and rain really exposes our lack of height down back, but perhaps more importantly the penetration of the kicks.
While most other teams are consistantly kicking goals from 50-60 indoors we still struggle with anything over 40. Brown, Garlick, Bandy, Johnson, Croft, West all struggle to kick the ball any distance...especially from set shots.

So while everyone is so hell-bent on finding a 6ft + forward who can mark....make sure he can kick the bloody thing aswell!

* Bump. Its almost been a year to the day of the last reply to this thread, but after reading some of the earlier posts, I realised that I said I would give Rohde until week 12 last year.

Maybe its just cos im away from the games and cant see them live but Im starting to think I am just living in a fantasy land.

Ps. What happened to PC28?

Perhaps he was kidnapped by Rocco Jones!
Perhaps Rocco Jones had some help. I seem to recall him being in deep conversation with some long haired fella from Sydney in the Locker Room pre game that day. Local might be able to shed some light on this. He popped in to moderate the conversation briefly.

-PC28- was a real loser. I've never met such a ****er in all of my life.;)
