Reading all the posts on this site it makes me think that everyone from the board down hates Silvan,why?
A hasty assumption! Silvan's relations with others have been soured recently by what is seen as a defection. Many strong supporters of the Cats (there are many: myself and the current Board included) were alarmed at them leaving and disturbed by the method they have used. We feel ambushed.
Silvan copped flack because they were a great side. No dramas. Upwey has been there for decades, but seem to handle the jealousy better - maybe because their years of success have inured them to it.
Silvan brought us a lot of value; not only player-wise, but also because they did a great job of reinventing their club - and a few others who aimed pot-shots could have taken note of how they went about it!
We are sorry to see a close and valued neighbour leave, particularly under such rancorous circumstances. Hope they return when the heat dies down. Also sorry to see the spite on the forum being thrown by both sides of the argument. Doesn't help either cause.

Very fair comments there monniehawk.
l think though if & when they come across to our league they will find it hard to return (me being bias) EFL is a great competion very prof run & speaking to people involved with Sth Belgrave they have said its the best thing they have done for the long term future of there club.

Your bias shows your loyalty to the EFL and I'm sure you will understand mine to the YVMDFL. It is also superbly run and has a strong history of loyalty to its clubs. Little known fact is that a number of clubs owe their current existence to the Board who have quietly propped them up in dire times. Fees remain at the same low level of 10 years ago, but during that decade all clubs have been distributed generous dividends from the league's astute financial management. While not the strongest playing-wise, we are possibly the glamour performer as a league in the VCFL.
Silvan belong here and will return. They have done it before as have Olinda while Mt Evelyn is happy with its move to us! I just hope Silvan get the care from the EFL that they have enjoyed here. As for Sth Belgrave, it is still early days for the Pubes and it would be fair to say they have a history of wandering about.
I also detect some destructive animosity between our neighbouring leagues. They operate in quite different environments which influences their purpose and the way they operate. I'd like to see them acknowledge that and become a little more bipartisan.
The YVMDFL is township based and has a focus on communities and their clubs. We are a country league and can't afford to be elitist, because particularly our smaller constituent clubs would suffer. That would devastate their communities.
I see the EFL as being more pragmatic, with a focus on the contest. It rightly prides itself in being the elite suburban league in Australia (apols to the VAFA!)and much of its persona is reflected in that focus.
Clubs bordering both can make a choice according to the mentality of their current leadership or club circumstances.

Catpower or Catzz...
Ive heard that Chris Goodlet is going to be the senior coach at Silvan for next season? Any truth behind this rumour??

Yarra Junction Football & Netball Club
AGM
Sunday 22nd of November @ the clubrooms, 11am - All welcome

Kinglake FNC News;

In a nailbiting finish to the Kinglake Best and Fairest count star full forward Brent Gallichio has overhauled the pace setter, Cam Scott, in the last round of the season.

Cam sat out the final two rounds in a bid to be fit for the finals series.

It capped a stellar season for Gallichio who also won the Second Division YVMDFL goal kicking and was named in the League's All Star team.

Meantime the pre-vote favourite Benny Collins won the Reserves Best and Fairest award from his good mate and fellow veteran "Kev" Maloney.

In the U/18s there was a boilover when speedy midfielder Scott Le Poidevin scored the final votes of the night and tied with young ruckman Thomas Sibenaler for the Best and Fairest.

Mount Evelyn FNC News;

The Club's AGM will be held at 7.30 pm on Wednesday 11 November at the Clubrooms.

Gembrook Cockatoo FNC News;

2009 Netball Wrap
The netballers had a great season this year finishing 4th in the B grade competition and 5th in the C grade competition. B grade bowed out in the first round of finals in a great effort against tough competition the Wandin Bulldogs. In winds and torrential rain the girls lost the first half to come back and win the second but it was not enough to surpass their opponents.

The C grade met Mt Evelyn in the first round of finals defeating the “mounters” by 8 goals but came up against a very determined Upwey side in the second round going down by 7 goals in very windy conditions. All the games were played at Gembrook which gave the club the opportunity to showcase what great facilities we have.

The club would also like to announce that Senior Coach Charlotte Moore will be again senior coach in 2010. Charlotte has done a magnificent job with the girls this season. An excellent leader on and off the court Charlotte has been instrumental in the teams finals appearances for the first time since the competition began 5 years ago. The club congratulates and thanks Charlotte for her efforts this season and we look forward to 2010.

Thanks must also go to our Season umpire Trent Morrison. Trent brings professionalism to the local sport through his umpiring. We received only positive comments from our opposition clubs all season. He even assisted our preparation through finals which was fantastic. We look forward to seeing Trent back again next season.

The Brookers are still continuing with the sport during the Summer, a team will be competing over at the YMCA in Pakenham on a Monday night and mixed teams will be playing in the Sherbrooke Netball Association at Belgrave Sth on a Saturday afternoon. If anyone out there wishes to play in either team please contact Sarah Aitken on 0407 873 380.

Pre-season will begin for the netballers at the end of the school holidays next year. Stay tuned for a start date.
