I caught a look at the Whittlsea Review this week, and the article titled "Mayhem at Kinglake". What's the latest with what went down last week?

In it, it stated that the YARRA Valley Mountain District Football League is investigating an incident in which a Kinglake player was felled behind play during Saturday's match against Seville.

It reports - Lakers’ star David Harris was struck from behind with a blow that left him unconscious and bleeding from the ear. Numerous scuffles broke out across the Kinglake ground and the umpires eventually abandoned play.

Harris was rushed to hospital to undergo brain scans and will also require micro-surgery on his injured ear.

It then suggests that player Harris is also considering his legal options.

Kinglake Football and Netball Club president, and local police senior constable, Cameron Caine, says it's thankfully rare to see these sorts of "1970s" incidents in footy these days but the encounter left spectators and players stunned.

Caine says he would like to see the offending Seville player de-registered.

The Whittlesea Review reported that Seville captain coach Mark Holly apologised to his Laker opposite number, Brent Gallichio, after the match.

According to the story Kinglake has protested the win, saying the rule encourages misbehaviour and neither club should have been awarded points.

The player from seville is one of the better characters you will meet. Very tough, but extremley honest down to earth bloke and well respected at the club. Kind of bloke that always has a friendly chat with opponent and rarely involved in anything like this.

I didnt actually see the incident but i have heard the Kinglake player actually started the fight and came off second best, and im not surprised given who he picked a fight with.

Unfortunate incident and i hope the Kinglake player doesnt come away with any permanent damage.

Everything i have heard about the incident has been form seville players, so im sure there are some Kinglake people who would disagree with me. There is always 2 sides to a story...

I write the same thing every year.

Woori is by far the best ground to host Grand Finals, Div 1 and 2. Its in YV heartland, terrific surface. Perfect size ground, Netball courts on-site, great parking, good changerooms, fenced off, good social club, "the best atmosphere", good canteen, good bar.

Have I missed anything ???

It should be invested in by the YV and Shire to become the showpiece YV venue for finals, Interleague etc ! (if possible)

Again, my humble opinion !

I agree Worri is probably the best ground, but what about if Worri are in the G/F, the stats that Derby103 put up show thay have a 15 point advantage at home - hard enough to beat at the best of times without home ground advantage thrown in. Interestingly Gembrook have a 17 point advantage at home. Does the league look at neutral gounds to make the day fair for both participants?? Probably not as G/F last year was at Worri with Worri taking on Upwey - probably makes Upwey's win even better.

Coming from Ballarat, if Woori is to be the showpiece of the league, it needs a fair bit of money spent on the rooms. The Yarra Valley holds themselves out as a major country league, but most, if not all, facilities in the league fall well short of what "established" major leagues have to offer.

good point, woori has the potential but needs a massive under cover area and a separate change room, but the bean counters who we vote for already think they are doing a great job so it'll never happen, blinded by self importance if you like

All correct I think, Nightstalker, TeeS and Local Knowledge!
Comparing YVMDFL facilities to others such as MPNFL, GFL, BFL, GVFL, etc shows the gulf between us and the rest. Arguably our best venues are Yea and Alex; and both are newcomers from neighbouring country areas!
In fairness, both GFL and Mornington are substantially sand-based with drier climates and more access to flat land! All these factors give them a decided advantage in preparing a playing surface, but the amenities are a different issue.
Clubs in Geelong have long enjoyed local councils that value active recreation and community sport. This is reflected in the standard of the facilities of its community clubs.
While loathe to say that SoYR is neglectful in this aspect, the results of council policy and philosophy can be starkly contrasted when we examine neighbouring shires. In fairness (again), the traditional role of local government has been changed by the current emphasis on a Chicago School style of economics. The focus seems more on delivering efficiencies than services.
With local councils increasingly controlled (and restricted) by tighter state government regulations, funding and its new 'free market' ethos, maybe the focus of our concerns should actually be directed more toward the second (and first?) tier of government. After all, the State Government now largely dictates the budget policies for local councils through its Local Government Acts.

As you have stated you have only heard one side of the story but obviously some one from Seville player or players needs to be accountable wheather his previous good character or not that doesn't come in to it the quicker thugs are weeded out of the game the better

And another thing you stated he picked the wrong bloke What does that mean??? Maybe you should inform the League your intimate knowledge of this bloke and that way the league can deregister him quicker instead him still being able to play so he can't do it again

I love the way everyone forgets (or doesn't know??) that the bloke that got, what people are saying "king hit" (which means didn't see it coming, which he actually did!!) was the instigator in the first place! He elbowed a Seville player directly to the back of the head from behind, so the Seville player did not and COULD not see it coming! ( some may call that, I don't know, KING hit maybe??) but because the Seville player got back up and the kinglake bloke didn't, it's all about the kinglake player?? I don't now about you but that doesn't make sense to me! If the Seville bloke stayed down FIRST, I don't think this would be a huge issue, because then everyone would know both teams where in the wrong!?!

As you stated in your post you were not there but you seem to have a lot of knowledge for some one who wasn't there. If what stated was the case how come Kinglake got the free kick and goaled the end result is FACT someone from Seville apparently you know who hit a Kinglake player with an elbow to the ear region FACT and ended up in hospital having micro surgery FACT. Why are you attempting to justify his actions?

FACT, I was there and I said that! And now it's a ELBOW to the ear??? Where you there???? Monnie hawk, your correct. Only time will tell.

Are you still yapping off on here BlueBoy?! Everyone's had their say, given their opinion, stated what they did/didn't see, suggested what should/shouldn't happen. It's about time everyone sucked it up and moved on. The league is conducting the investigation, findings will be handed down and everyone will have to live with the result.

Can I add, I am very impressed by the thoroughness and professionalism of the investigation. It's good to see that the league is treating situations such as this with the seriousness that they deserve.

I think you have me mixed up with blueboy 01.

But in reponse to the previous comments from what i have heard from multiple sources that were at the game is that the kinglake player threw the first few punches and came off second best. If that is the case then people calling the Seville player a thug and asking for him to be deregistered is unwarranted. Not many players would wear a few puches and then just walk off with out retaliation...

Like I said before I wasnt there, but the reason i posted something in the first place is knowing the way the seville player in question has conducted himself on and off the field for the last 3 years, and the kind of person that he is, i dont belive he would have initiated the incident.

Apparently Surrey Park are waiting in anticapation for next seasons draw to see when they play Silvan. Wouldnt be to cocky if I was Surrey Park as shown this year Silvans depth is first rate. Silvan are obviously hoping to keep CASSET as hes really managed to turn there season around.:thumbsu:
