You are Richmond's list manager, what do you do this off season?

I'm going to get abused for this but honestly, I'd consider it. Maybe a swap of 2nd Rd picks as well because we all believe Lennon will be a very good player.

I don't know what people see in Witts. He's tall and he's young and that's about it. Hamster played more good games THIS year than Witts has played in his entire life at AFL level. If he can get his knee right we don't need to bring in a ruck.

Hampson's knee won't ever be right.
And I don't know what it is I like about Witts either, but I reckon he could become a very good ruck.

What I would like to see happen:

Trade our 1st rounder this year for Bennell
Trade our 2nd rounder and Astbury for Redden
Trade this years and next years 3rd rounders for Bugg (massive upgrade on Morris and Hunt).

Also wouldn't mind looking at CEY from Adelaide or Andrew Moore from Port.
Bring in Stevie J and then keep him on in a coaching role.

Keep next years 1st and 2nd rounders. Supposedly a much deeper draft next year (although by the time it comes round we will have picked so many holes in the players they will all be ordinary again).

Upgrade a couple of rookies and take a couple of speculative talls late in the draft and we're good to go.

Rookie list the best state league Ruckman in the country. We may very well need coverage for Maric and Hampson.
Similar set up to Stephenson a few years back. I can't see us doing anything major re Ruckman with all this other supposed trading happening.

A lot depends on who puts their hand up to want to come to Richmond. We have lots of untouchables who we really need if we are going to take that next step but that list shortens depending on the quality of the player who nominates us. i.e. if Danger wanted to come to us the list for me would be very short.

I would never let him go for any price but I value Rance at Danger and 2 first rounders at the least :D.

I think we will be letting go some good players in the trading this year but all in the interests of finding that little bit extra to be a finals threat.

I am looking forward to seeing what happens.

Offer Danger $850k/year for 5 years.
Offer Carlton 2nd round and get Yarran and their 3 rounder (which would be 7 spots lower)
Offer 1st and the Carlton 3rd for Treloar (*just to see what GWS says)
If GWS say no, offer same for Hartlett (may say yes)
If Port say no, then offer carltons 3rd and our 2016 2nd for Bennell (prob say yes to that)

if none of those deals happen then offer Astbury and Carltons 3rd to Brisbane for Redden (they are bound to say yes)

if noone says yes then we ahve the worst football department ever.

Sign Lennon for $250k over 3 years, with incentives for games and goals, b&f placing etc. then tell him he is 3 good years away from a lucrative contract

Then
Shop around Dea, Conca, Astbury (if brisbane dont have him), Griff and Lloyd to see what people offer. Anything less than a 2nd rounder for everyone or a top 20 pick for Conca and its a no. Maybe a 3rd for Dea accept.

SO...
We keep our original 3rd rounder and lose 2nd round and poss 1st rounder and then on trade Carltons 3rd rounder.

We could enter the draft at the 3rd round, but have got Yarran and 1 of Redden, Treloar or Hartlett, and possibly Bennell.

And if we ahve a good enough offer for the people we shop around, we could still enter at the 2nd round with those players.

out
2nd rounder, Carltons 3rd rounder (on traded), (poss) 1st rounder, (poss) 2016 2nd rounder, Astbury

in
Yarran, (either) Treloar, Redden, Hartlett or Bennell, and Danger on a FA.

Draft a KPD
Draft a ruck
then best available

If I was Dan Richardson I would be looking at getting the following done between now and the end of trade period.

Re-Signings:
Lennon - 2 years with a 3rd year depending on games played over the next 2 years.
Grigg - 2 years
Lloyd - 1 year with a 2nd year option depending on games played next year.
Lambert - 2 years

Delistings:
Dea Thomas Gordon

Trades:
2015 R1 Pick & Astbury to Lions for Redden & 2015 R2 pick
2016 R1 Pick & Lions R2 pick to Suns for Bennell

Following on from that, if I was Dimma I'd look at the following heading into 2016.

1. Corey Ellis spends the summer shadowing Cotchin
2. Lennon spends the summer shadowing Deledio
3. Castagna spends the summer shadowing Houli
4. Hampson spends the summer as first ruck
5. Menadue spends the summer shadowing Brandon Ellis
6. Elton spends the summer working with Rance & Chaplin

Team wise if the above was to pan out:

B: Batchelor Rance Grimes
HB: Houli Chaplin Vlastuin
C: B.Ellis Redden Bennell
HF: Deledio Riewoldt Martin
F: Edwards Vickery Lennon
R: Hampson Cotchin Miles
INT: Conca C.Ellis McIntosh Grigg

The addition of Redden and making the change of ruckman from honest toiler in Maric to a ruckman capable of not just winning hitouts but also winning them to advantage in Hampson will dramatically add to our ability to win contested ball & clearances without having to rely on sharking the opposition taps. In other words having our midfielders knowing where they will need to be to win the clearance as opposed to trying to read the tap will make it easier for us to improve on an area that we were bad in this season.

The addition of Bennell adds another player with classy outside ball use, who can also push forward and kick goals. The other bonus of adding Redden & Bennell to the line up would be it also allows us the luxury of starting Deledio Martin & Edwards up forward, with Deledio & Lennon in particular to work alongside Riewoldt and Vickery in a mobile 4 prong forward set up, something that to me worked much better than having Jack Griffiths & Vickery play together.

Looking at that 22 as well as the depth we'd have assuming a decent run with injury and I'd back us to be right up there for the top 4 as I can see both the Swans and Fremantle falling away a little. The big question is do we have the nuts to go out and attempt something like the above trades to land a couple of big name best 22 types or will it be another year of a potential difference maker in Yarran and what could have been stories. I guess only time will tell.

For me a dream trade period would be both Carlisle and now Tomlinson who wants out of Gws. Theoretically freeing up Griffiths and Astbury for trades if we wish.No more vickery as a permanrent kp and no more Chaplin. Two extremely versatile players who would shore our KPF and kpd stocks up for the next 8 to 10 seasons. Bonus is both are good enough to play at opposite ends of the ground if needed.

Would get Steve Johnson Shore up the ruck with Jarred Redden and enquire about Angus Litherland at Hawks.

GET yarran , bennell done, then lets be fair and give bluesss fair trade value, our first pick richard lounder, should fit in well as the useless statue of a footballer he was and is, all the qualities the blues are looking for.

If I was List Manager

Keep our required players. > Pretty much done, waiting on Lennon

Get as much talent as possible for as little as possible in trades and FA's. > Yarran and Bennel fit this. Would like inside mid and ruck. But what with?

Draft players to fill holes 5 years out, if young, or immediate holes if mature aged state leaguers. > Depends on picks available after trades.

I wouldn't trade young guys with talent, but injuries etc > Griff, Conca unless a great deal was put up or the medicos reckoned they were shot.

I'd be looking at next year to try and set up FA's/Trades.
Look at players on the list and work out who needs to be moved on given our playing list and age /fitness structure. So, that means ruck (Ivan), KPB (Chapman) need replacements - which we have (Hampster and Astbury/Elton) but not of proven AFL quality.

Overall, I'd say I'd be doing pretty much what they are doing. I'd love to have gotten Danger, but he was Geelong or Adelaide only. Treloar would have been great, but the Pies are wiling to pay overs for players.

* I'd also be trying hard to make sure other clubs pay high prices for players that we don't get. I.e. Pies pay 2 * firsts for Treloar.
