Re: young too soft

I got banned from MightHawk over 1 month ago simply for posing the qt "Does anyone else on here this that Young is too soft"? Yes, banned for asking a question!!

But anyways, I too think he is too soft...He gets plenty of it, that much we know...however, if a player costs you a few goals going the other way by shirking a contest or by simply not bloody sticking a tackle (e.g. Aaron Fiora goal last night), then that player is a liabilty....

Yes, not all players are going to be as tough as Hodge, Sammy, Lewis, etc...but to play football you need some mongrel in you, evem just a little bit. I think Youngs negatives/disadvantages slightly outweigh his positives/advantages and is therefore a liability.
Besides, we have plenty of players that play similar roles to Young, both currently in the team and also waiting for their chance in the seniors. I honestly dont think he will be too much of a loss to the team if he was ommitted/injured...but he seems like a favourite of the coaching panel, so he aint going anywhere anytime soon!

The MightyHawks site has a rule that Hawthorn Players and officials cannot be bashed - discuss them, criticise them, but don't just bash them. No wonder you got banned.

The Big Footy site is the appropriate forum for mindless bashing.

So, go for it!

Thread starter, I must have watched a different game to what you did last night.

The fact is Clint receives his fair share of accolades in Clarko's post match media conferences so our coach sees in him what I see: many facets of skills which takes time to develop at AFL level. Write him off at your own peril.

Good sides need very physical in-and-under specialists and when coming out of a pack need a receiver they can rely on to assist execute game plans which have been set up over a week or more of training drills.

Youngy is a receiver of high calibre and his specialty is peeling off or bulking around opponents when receiving to execute long left -foot bombs into the scoring zone.

If I was betting man I'd wager he will be a regular in our team for years to come.

His off-field skills would include writing his name using capital letters.

Soft is the wrong word because a player who has his build his never going to be someone who crushes packs & the like & because of his lack of body strength it probably appears he was being soft when really he couldn't do anything, so its not his fault in saying that its probably a problem but one that is because of his body rather then a heart issue & everyone says his a great kick & he is capable of showing these skills but i still think his to much of an inconsistent kick to be outside midfielder.

I am pretty sure I am saying his soft not that he has to be dropped. Just needs to improve on his strength and hardness at the ball dramatically.

So asking a question is considered "mindless bashing"?
Ok, I'll keep that in mind next time...next time someone asks a question, within reason, i'll request the mods to ban them

I remember your post on MightyHawks, mate.

It was a shocker, but quite OK for BigFooty ;)

Re: young too soft

Agree totally. When we are up and running he is one of the few that is capable of goaling on the run from outside 50.

true WHEN WERE UP AND RUNNING but when its in close pressure football

thats when these players go missing a question to all how many outside players are at west coast and sydney which has one the last 2 prems.

Re: young too soft

I hate these snipers who rarely appear on the board and only want to undermine. Constructive criticism is OK but many of these posters make comments that are simply destructive of the player and the club.

mate theres always going to be criticism win or lose whats the point on having a forum

Davo, just to clarify mate...I made a silly comment out of anger DURING the Port Adelaide game immediately after Young came on and made 2 quick and stupid mistakes in succession, one of which cost us a goal. More precisely, i described those passages of play "weak as piss" (first time i used 'abusive' language on a forum), and from that I rightfully received a warning (even though many ppl on forums write things which are much worse and offending). As everyone knows, DURING the game, people say things when they are riding high on emotion...But I accepted my mistake and took the warning...

However 2 weeks later when I simply posed the qt, "Are the following players soft", including Young, is when I got banned...Honestly, I just wanted to see what the view was of other Hawks supporters on certain players....Now I got banned for that, which in my mind is simply stupid and unfair! I didnt know that there were certain players I couldnt ask qts about...

And btw, not sure If u were referring to someone else, but i didnt post under the same name in MightHawk as I do here...

Don't let the door hit you on your way out.

Thanks for your concern....

Remind me again, what is the purpose of having forums? To submit your opinion, or to simply come on and praise every player week in week out without any touch of criticism or else you risk getting banned??
Oh, and please find a post of mine containing abusive langauge or "overcritisizing" a player...you wont find one, bc if i do happen to critisize or critique a player, i provide reasoning. I'll praise a player when they deserve it, but at the same time I'll critisize a player when they deserve it also...within reasonable limits of course!

Me too. It wasn't directed at you, mate.

Anyone who thinks BF is beneath them is welcome to go elsewhere.

******* the 2 gift goals to Milne, Buddy converts 2 of his 5 misses and Roughie slots that sitter and we'd be talking up a top 2 finish.
Young is a revelation, the kid has come from nowhere and is a vital cog in our attacking game plan. Yep, like many young Hawks, he still has a fair bit of improvement to go (ie gym, right foot, tackling...etc) but you can't question the rapid development of the boy thus far.
We're not world beaters so it's pointless hanging one player after another close game we could easily have won.
Expect a better showing next week in Tas - massive game.

I like Youngy and thought he got a lot more kicks than lots of his buddies - even though some of them were turned over. But my dad says that he is a boy playing a mans game and that he uses his size as an excuse not to go in hard. ANd he almost smashed his beer glass when he couldnt tackle Fiora late in the game - not a happy puppy.

Anyway I think he tried hard for most of the night and it was good that Clarko was positive about him and his teammates even though we got pumped.

I love it when Young gets the ball
He runs and kicks

Not everyone is built like a gorilla and can take the physical punishment.
He puts in
Play to your strengths and not your weakness

He will be a great player for a long time.

I said last week I thought he got injured and during this week have received further news about what Clinton needs to do get up and play each week.

All I can say is if you think he is weak, cowardly or soft.... he is certainly none of those because I wouldnt do what he does to get out on the park each week.

This thread has all the hallmarks of those who posted in round 1 after the loss to Brisbane that Clarko be sacked, the youth policy abolished and the like.....seriously there are reasons, so get a grip and stop being stupid.

Well said Rusty, this year he's laid plenty of tackles that required to put his body on the line, and with his dodgy shoulder, it probably exposed him, but he was one of our better players still.

how many times did young shirk the issue it cost us 3 or 4 goals

too soft for my liking shouldve been dragged on all occasions.

Couldn't agree less. Watch the game more closely.

It wasn't a shadow diving across the Saints player to make that awesome smother during the game. Poor post.

Criticisms of our players maybe warranted and certainly this is the place to vent your spleen. But, in my opinion, there are some who overlook that players, in busting their guts out for the club, make moves out on the paddock to pre-ordained game plans drilled for hours-on-end on the training track and in team meetings during a preceding week.

As team-players, some moves a player maybe attempting just might not come off.

There is more to supporting your team than finding fault - such as giving thought to a player's manoeuvre not coming off.

Seriously Hawks fans, if you guys don't want young Clint, feel free to direct him to the Cattery.

Craig Bradley played nearly 500 games of league footy and wouldn't know what a tackle was if it fell out of a tree and hit him in the head (let alone the bottom of a pack). He did go OK tho didn't he?

Clint Young is EASILY one of the best kicks in the comp over any distance, and he has made a MASSIVE difference to how you fellas play. Sure he might not have the maniacal desperation or hardness your skipper has, but could the skip hit a leading forward lace out on the **** with a 60 metre pass?

If I was playing league footy as a marking forward, and I could nominate 3 guys i'd like delivering the pill to me from any distance, Buckley, Goddard and Young would be the guys.

Agreed. Far too many of them. I said a while back that this board has grown enormously this year and unfortunately, alot of these noobs are straight out wrong!

Ok to have opinions guys, but the amount of ridiculous threads/posts Ive seen this year is unbelievable. ...Bring back last years board!

*cough*private board*cough :D
