Over recent years who would be the youngest and oldest player to play Ones football in the Yarra Valley? Andy Goodwin comes to mind for one of the oldest. I know plenty of 18's players have stood up but any one from the 16's for example?

Bruce Paynter for Belgrave played against Monbulk when he was about 52 or 54, I think. That was Belgrave's last year in Div 1.
Might be wrong, but I have a feeling Chris Hughson might have played seniors for Monbulk while still U16.

pretty sure u16 cant play senior footy under current rules, Jake Matthews would have played in a GF last yr if they could

Nathan Muratore (Gembrook) was a regular senior player last year and was a first year U18. Played the first 2 games of the year but is playing for Eastern this week. Not sure who the oldest ever is, but would have thought that Steve Goodie (40) is close to - if not the oldest - still going around at the moment. If he's not the oldest, he just looks like he is! :D Just joking Steve!!!!

having been involved with the Eastern Ranges in an off field capacity for a few years some that i remember and had got to see a fair bit of were:
Healsville: Zac Kelly 17*, Carl Morandi 16, Peter Monk 17. Cameron Arnott 17
Monbulk: Ryan Creed 16, Jack Besley 16
Upwey: Chris Kane 17, Liam Burke 15, Andrew McQualter 17
Gembrook: Eric Pope 17, Mitchell Hedger 17*
Woori: Marcus Hottes 17, Brendon Sneddon 17*
Olinda: Mathew Rosier 17*

* indicates i'm not certain if they actually did play senior footy at that age but i'm confident they did.

Also it not sure if Leigh Adams, Mathew Lobbe or Rory Sloane ever played senior footy

Ohh McCavity - i am thinking you might get in some trouble tomorrow.. Ha Ha. Nath Muratore was def 16 last year and played mostly senior football and finished top 6 senior B & F, and what about Damian Volta this year - i think he is only 16?

Actually...you're right. Nathan was U16 last year, and I think Damian Volta turns 17 this year. Both at eastern at the moment of course. On the other...I'm only in trouble if Goodie reads this, or has his carer read it to him.:p

McCee i imagine that d volta is the son of Paul......played with and against the Padre..one of the better country footballers i have seen.

He is Paul's boy. A very talented young player. I wouldn't expect that we'll see much of him up the hill this year though. Should be at Eastern most weeks.

Bruce Painter was 49 when he played in Belgrave's Senior team Vs Monbulk in the last round of 2006. He also played two's that day & kicked a goal in the seniors.

Last week he ruptured his ACL and needs a full Reco. I wish you all the best in your recovery Bruce.

Ps happy 52nd Birthday today :)

Have the rules changed recently throughout the VCFL? Yea had planned to have a young bloke (on the cusp of turning 16) make his senior debut last Saturday at Emerald, but apparently there is an agreement that meant he was deemed too young to play???

Danny hyndman has been at both ends of the scales by playing his first senior game at 16 and recently hanging the boots up in his late 30's. Steve gregson was another young starter with his first senior game at the age of 14,even thou he looked 35 at the time

Can't find anything specific. It may have been a local agreement with the junior league or even the YVMDFL. Or it may not exist at all and the club has just made a stance.
Here is all I could find from the VCFL Rules.
"Entry Levels
(a) Each League shall adopt and use the National
Player Transfer System.
Where a player has not attained the age of
eighteen (18) years the registration must be
acknowledged by a parent or guardian or a
person authorised in writing by a parent or
guardian so to act.
The player transfer cannot be acknowledged
by a club official unless they are a parent or
guardian of the player.
(b) Each player shall pay a registration fee
annually as determined by the VCFL Board.
(c) To be eligible to be registered players must
have obtained eight (8) years of age during
the season they wish to register, players can
register at any time during the year, however
must satisfy league finals requirements.

The minimum competition age being under 9."

I imagine that the last sentence was designed for Junior footy only!

As stated earlier, we asked the league last year if we could play Jake Matthews who was a top age u16 and playing u18s, we were told he cant play senior footy, I think the rule is you cant play 2 levels higher than the one your eligable (age, not standard )

dougie musgrove from Thornton is 52 i think (i remember his 50th a couple of years ago) has played close to 450 games for the club and still puts his footy bag in the boot every saturday morning and fills in whenever needed. his son brendan is a former premiership player in the seniors.

Steve Andrews from the Cats is 39 & will play his 300th senior game this week, still goes ok & has been a superstar for the cats for a long time.

Good luck on the weekend Rooter.

similar for mick scott and andy greenall both around 380 plus senior games for ofcfc coolangatta east burwood and in andys case a couple of other clubs..... both our now 40 ish:D
