Absolutely unbeatable, Absolutely unstoppable.

71 Premiership medallions between em, for an average of 4 each.
5 Norm Smith's......8 if you go back & count 71, 76 & 78 (Moore, Knights & Dipper).
3 Browlow Medalists across the centre line.
Impenetrable Defence.
Best attack of any side in the past 40 years.
The only weakness is Scotty in the ruck, for a lack of height & craft....But he'll give you everything he's got & then some.

Nick Riewoldt - Lance Franklin - James Hird
Eddie Betts - Matthew Lloyd - Stephen Milne
Dean Cox - Gary Ablett jr - Jimmy Bartel

Mid 70s onwards

B. F Bourke ~ M Scarlett ~ A McLeod
HB. B Doull ~ P Knights ~ K Greig
C. N Buckley ~ G Williams ~ M Voss
HF. M Blight ~ W Carey ~ L Franklin
F. G Ablett Snr ~ A Lockett ~ P Hudson
R. G Dempsey ~ L Matthews (c) ~ K Bartlett
I. A Jesaulenko ~ J Hird ~ P Daicos ~ R Flower
C. R Barassi

E. S Madden, J Dunstall, C Judd, G Ablett Jnr

I’ve determined to pick:

6 best defender types with a little latitude. Two must be the key backs.
6 best forwards with some latitude to ensure its recognising greatness. Two must be key forwards at a minimum with others who can also play flanks if required.
6 on ball mid types, of which one must be a ruck.
Then 4 unlucky misses who might fill goal kickers but can play other positions or just feel they belong.

Backs were high pressure selections with players like Ayres, Wanganeen and Hodge missing out. But Francis Bourke, Hruce Doull, Keith Greig just pick themselves and McLeod in my view just better than the unlucky misses.
Scarlett seems the best of all full backs ahead just of Dench. Southby unlucky.
Silvagni way over rated for mine, excellent player but not even best full back at his club.
CHB I just can’t go past Peter Knights who can even swing forward. Jackovich the unlucky miss.

The middle types was so talented, very difficult. I opted for the best ruck I’ve seen in Gary Dempsey.
Simon Madden very unlucky as was Len Thompson and later on Dean Cox. Even Graham Moss was unlucky.
On ballers Leigh Matthews picks himself as leader captain, the boss.
KB was a star and was a wizard at finals. On the wings two all time greats in Voss and Buckley, both take wings as Williams suited by the centre.
Unlucky was Judd, Ablett and easpecially Barry Cable a real star.

Forwards was the hardest. At the end so much talent needed spots. Carey and Lockett are must inclusions, Hudson has the greatest ever average if goals a game, Ablett Snr picks himself, and Blight and Franklin add the magic on the flanks. Unlucky is Dunstall to miss a game in this 22.

At the end the four interchange were so deserving of spots with the mercurial silky Robert Flower to run through the wings, James Hird pips Dunstall for versatility. He can play on ball even.then the two forwards who can kick over a hundred goals for Jesaulenko and 97 goals for Daicos. Both can play on ball and flanks and be mercurial.

Emergencies were the unlucky Madden, Dunstall, Ablett jnr and Judd.

Coach was between two for me. Before the term super coach came on the scene there was THE super coach in Ron Barassi. Genius.
Only Leigh Matthews I’d say is in challenge here with Leigh being the on field general.

Sorry to miss are Jeans, Sheedy, Parkin, Clarkson with Hafey getting his big four pre my time.

So you're basically giving Hudson the Nod ahead of Dunstall on the basis of a single season in 1977?

If you saw his first 5 years from 1967-1971, then I'd understand.....But you've stipulated from the mid 70's onward.

You know that’s a very good point.
As a kid I thought Hudson was something else.
Ofcourse I learnt he had the highest goal average ever.
You actually may be right and I’ve over extrapolated on that basis, snatching the fuller career.
I’ll have to think that one through.

LOL at the lack of Hawthorn players, apart from Buddy.

I note the other 2 sides with 3 premierships or more are well represented.

Jimmy Bartel.....Oh dear.

I'm only surprised you could fit Dunstall in at all.
I am going from mid 90s. Matthews, Knights, Aryres from your team I didn’t see enough of to qualify. Not a big shock to have Voss over Mitchell but looking at my team Buddy should be in. I wouldn’t be so offended.

None taken.

As I said....I'm only surprised you could fit any Hawks in at all, given your renowned anti-Hawk bias.

Matera was a supreme finals wing-man who had a 5 year patch of excellent football....But was he in Crawford's class over a 17 year Career?.....I doubt it.

And as for not having a single Hawk player from our recent 4 Premiership era tilt. (The best of any recent club)…..Again....No surprise.

Call the waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaambulence.

Not much of a defence.

Pretty well an admittance that you have none.
You complain that players from your own team don't get in a side of the past 20 or so years. Mitchell and Hodge were close but I preferred players like Bartel, who is one of seven players to have won both a NS and a Brownlow, and was one of the best players of the modern era to Mitchell and hell, I couldn't find a spot for McLeod off half back. This wasn't about these players being in great teams, this was about these players being outright legends of the game. If I were to do a second 22 Mitchell, Hodge, Breust amongst others would all comfortably make it. But seriously, quit your whining

Lol - I like the Hawks. What bias do I have against them? Crawford wouldn’t make my 2nd best side. Hodge and Buddy are the only other 2 in contention.

You only have Mitchell and Buddy from your golden era. I said Buddy should be in so really you only have 1 extra player - he is not as good as Voss or Williams.

Hodge & Mitchell have Bartel covered every day of the week.

I'm attempting to have a discussion over obvious omissions....While you keep up with the whine-accusations.....An unconscious confession if ever there was one.

Nah, but keep those rosed coloured glasses on.
